I booked 2 days at El Royale via Hotels.com. The price point met my needs. I landed in LA around 7:40pm. When I was able to check messages, I noticed that the hotel tried to reach me twice asking about my arrival . I texted them back that I was arriving at 9pm. Upon my arrival, Javier greeted us and then the manager Roberto came to get my ID and credit. Oddly, they asked me to email them my confirmation. I did so, but noticed that it was noted that the confirmation was canceled. Roberto went to his back office and took some time before he came back to run my card. I signed off on 3 receipts but he never gave me one. Yet, I noticed that the price was much higher than I expected. Next morning, I checked my booking via the app. The price was much less than than I was charged. Hotels.com stated that I canceled the booking at 7:29PST, That is not true. I would have never canceled the booking. I was in the air to LA. I was on my way. Why would I do that? I had everything set for the weekend. Hotels.com proceeded to tell me via Twitter DM that in order for me to cancel that I would have needed to provide my confirmation number, telephone number, and last 4 digits of the credit card used. Hotel gets that information. I had booked a Deluxe Queen Room with two beds. My brother and I were led to a room with a king bed. What?? They were able to make the futon in the living room area into a bed. That worked. I did have a conversation the next day with Roberto, and I sent him the screen shot of the reservation and dollar amount. He said he was going to investigate. Never heard back. Upon leaving, I asked if I needed to do anything upon check out. I handed in the key. Nothing else was needed. On the phone with hotels.com, and I explained the situation. They called the hotel and they are now saying that they charged me as a walk in since my booking was canceled. What? They knew I was coming. How could they say I was a walk in. I believe that since the hotel had not heard from me that they canceled my booking. They thought that I was going to be a no show. Plus, it was a busy weekend, so they upped the price by putting me in as a walk in. The hotel is nice. It was clean and in a good area. Yet, this experience between Hotels.com and them has given me pause. I've asked the hotel for an itemized receipt 3x, and they have yet to produce it. I've asked to speak with a supervisor at Hotels.com to resolve this issue, as well. No one has called back. This has been a huge disappointment. I do not recommend.

As noted by others, the El Royal has been recently updated and has a very modern look. The bed was comfortable, the linens and toiletries were very nice. The shower was good. The staff is extremely helpful and rather charming. Lots of good restaurants in walking distance. The room we had in the more modern part of the hotel was very small and had room for only 1 chair. The A/C is very loud, we opted not to run it the night we stayed.

El Royale was a nice budget friendly hotel. It was convenient and clean. It was straight to the point hotel. They had coffee and muffins in the morning. Coffee was good and strong! The location of the hotel was great, close proximity to the freeway. Its a great hotel for if your main purpose for a trip was Universal Studio. It is close by. Close enough to walk (about 12-15 mins) to the metro station & from there you get a shuttle ride (free) to city-walk/ universal studio. It will save you greatly on parking at Universal. I like how theres little places around the hotel as well such as convenient stores like 711, drugstores, nail salon, marshalls, Michaels, Starbucks, and places to eat as well. Im not sure how safe the area is at night as I didn’t walk it, but the hotel itself felt safe. Theres not a-lot of rooms, maybe 12? Its a cottage like, private enough as it is all separated by a carport. You can park in your designated carport:garage which is convenient and free of charge (as other hotels charge!). The room is basic but comfortable, like I said straight to the point! It has its charm. Don’t expect it to be a motel 6 cus it is not and don’t expect it to he a Sheraton either. I would come back her for sure if ever I visit studio city / los angeles again. The hotel manager and Front Desk Xavier (i think thats his name) are nice and helpful.

Brilliant customer service After arriving from the UK on 11th April 22 and finding ourselves homeless due to our original booking having duped us, me and my family found ourselves in a foreign country with no where to stay. We then began ringing around several hotels however all of which could not accomodate us at short notice. My wife then rang and spoke with Robert from El Royale Hotel and explained the situation to him. Robert then went above and beyond and said although he could not accomodate us until 13th April he would try and ring partner hotels to see if they could find us accomodation until then. Which he was able to do so. We then arrived at El Royale for the remainder of our holiday which was from 13th to 21st April and stayed in room 107 of the Royale Gardens. We had our own designated parking spot. The room itself was modern and spacious and had its own mini fridge and microwave The bathroom was clean and modern. The TV had hundreds of channels. The staff including the cleaner and grounds keeper (sorry I didnt get either of your names) were great with our children. As was Xavier who was friendly and helpful. I would gladly return to this hotel in the future and strongly recommend it to anyone with a family

Wonderful man running this hotel. I believe his name to be Mr. Sherman. My husband and I had some family things come up before traveling that kept us from being able to arrive at a decent hour. I let the hotel know that we wouldn’t be able to arrive until around 2:00am. I was informed that the office closed at 10:00pm so they wouldn’t be able to accommodate. Knowing it was a small hotel I understood. I was offered to have any fees associated waived & not be charged anything. I understood and began looking for other hotels in the are. It seemed that they were all full for the evening. I messaged bookings.com where I made the reservation & they let me know they would reach out to the hotel and then offer me a comparable room at a different hotel. Mr. Sherman called me letting me know I wouldn’t be charged but he was still trying to figure out the process with booking.com. After much back and forth between Mr. Sherman, bookings.com, and myself, Mr Sherman called me to let me know that he would go ahead and wait up for us & allow my husband and I to check in at 2:00am. This meant so much to us as we were already having a difficult day and finding a room last minute while we were attempting to get on the road was very stressful given the lack of availability in the area. Mr. Sherman understood this and really went above and beyond for us as guests. He even called me at 1:30am to see where I was at in the road. He extended our check out by an hour as well since we arrived so late. This is personal guest service you wouldn’t get at a larger hotel.

I really liked this motel.. the room was large enough, fridge & microwave. shower was hot. The room was very clean as were towels. The bed was very comfy. Theres a open garage next to the room, this as the benefit of parking and sound reduction as there is no room directly next to yours so it was quite. (this is a massive problem in America where sound proofing is virtually none existent). The staff were very nice and we enjoyed our stay and would stay again. They really need to take off that they provide breakfast, they don't. I understand due to Covid but then just edit the website, it doesn't bother me but I heard other guest getting annoyed about it. There is great Indian restaurant next door, it doesn't look much but the food was great. We stayed here because its a 10-15 min walk to Universal, we went on a Wednesday and got there as it opened.... no queue and we went on every ride at least twice. Its also a 10 min walk to the metro station, this is limited but it does go to Hollywood, so you could stay here and take public transport to other tourist areas. Theres supermarkets close by so you can take some "snacks" to Universal as the food is terrible and expensive. At the price you couldn't ask for better

Came to LA for a fun couples trip to Universal Horror nights with my husband. We had the after 2pm entrance tickets but stopped at the hotel first to check in. We were told the room wouldn’t be ready until 2:30 so we asked if we could pick up the room key whenever we arrived back at the hotel and were told that was fine. We made sure the staff knew it would be pretty late. We asked about parking and were told each room had an attached garage parking spot and we could just park there when we got back. Upon returning to the hotel we got our key but the employee told us we could not park in our assigned spot and instead directed us to park next to the lobby and was directing my husband who was driving how far he wanted us to pull forward. He caused us to hit a concrete step chipping the corner and causing damage to our car. He said we would need to discuss this matter in the morning with the manager. Then after all that we open the door to our room and find two small beds even though we had specifically booked a deluxe king room since it was just my husband and I. It was late and we were very tired so we stayed the night in the double room. In the morning we spoke with the manager, Robert who was rude and unconcerned with either the issue of the damage to our car caused by his employee or that we weren’t given the room type that we paid for! He kept trying to change the subject and talk about things that were totally irrelevant like closing the gate to the hotel at night for security. He did absolutely nothing on either matter leaving us with a damaged car and didn’t get the nicer room we had paid for! Would not recommend staying here to anyone

If you like to be scammed, this would be the hotel. When booked the confirmation said breakfast for 3. When arrived they said no breakfast due to california not allowing indoor dining. I checked local law and they do allow at 50% capacity. I checked several other hotels and they served breakfast. The main thing here is they lie to u on confirmation to attract u, then change it on arrival. Room is also tiny. There is 0 customer service. This is worse than motel super 8.

Cottage room had just been upgraded 3 weeks ago and they did a fantastic job. Bed was very comfortable and loved having our own car port. Staff was VERY friendly and accommodating. Next time we're in the area we will stay there again. Oh, several varied choices of food within walking distance too.
