I think taking an uber is always safe. If you are talking about the safety in the surroundings of the hotel,,, it doesn´t look that good. I wouldn't have gone out walking and taking photos. I would recommend to stay in the hotel just for the night and take the uber from there to any place you want to visit. Also, about Hollywood, try to go during the day. At night it also starts looking bad.
