Nasty place - stay clear. Balcony door didn’t even shut let alone lock and the room was filthy, looked like something out of a horror film. Couldn’t get any response about the fact the door to a public area didn’t shut - HORRENDOUSLY UNSAFE especially on Hollywood boulevard. Lucky no one just walked in as we slept or stole our stuff when out but we had no choice. Useless staff. Gave them plenty of opportunities during and after the trip to resolve this and nothing. Also if you’re looking at this because it’s close to Hollywood boulevard then spare yourself. The place is a dive anyway and we spent our time trying to get away from the area to nicer parts of LA.
The place was nice and clean and the staff was very helpfull. Special the cleaning was so sweet. Always with a smile. Good place to stay. Pool wasn’t very big, but it was clean. Little far from all the famous thing, but the metro was very close to the hotel
The door to the balcony did not lock nor did it have a door handle on the inside. There was a handle on the outside. This is an issue because the balcony space is a shared space. The gate wasn't locked so the rooms upstairs that shared the balcony space could enter our room if they wanted to. I locked the gate myself but there was still one room across that shared the same balcony space. When I checked in, the door to the room was wide open. I found out the balcony door did not lock and went to inquire about it. I was told they were working on it earlier in the day but could not fix it. I was not told this when I was checking in and all other rooms were booked. My SO wedged a chair in between the balcony door and saw a long screw that was in the door frame and screwed it in to "secure" the door. We took our valuables with us each day and prayed no one broke in each night. The motel was right next to the street so it was really loud. We went to Target nearby to grab some ear plugs and it was fine. The rooms were old and dirty. I found hair in the bed and the floors weren't cleaned. For the price and location, the motel was fine but probably wouldn't stay here again.…
Inexpensive (for LA) mom and pop hotel with a vintage vibe. Clean rooms, secure parking, several local restaurants within walking distance. There was a pool as well. If you have mobility issues, be aware that there are stairs but no elevator.
Room was comfy enough, and linens were all clean. BUT Hollywood Downtowner website and all their other listings say there are coffee makers in all the rooms (complete lie) and there is free breakfast (also completely untrue, false advertising).
The rooms are loud and outdated but i am fine with that. Everything is clean and the bed is good. wifi is excellent. i could see the Hollywood sign from our window. Cleaning lady was very nice and was singing whilst doing her job. I love that.
Room dirty, filthy, outdated, window won't closed. Chair with traces of what looks like "semen" We left after one night for a two days reservation. Manager of the hotel agree not to charge me but after being back home does not answer to me or booking. So I stayed one night and he charged me for two.
Were in LA for a couple of days to wait out our jetlag. The Hollywood Downtowner Inn was a great place to do just that. It is located quite centrally for visiting downtown LA, Santa Monica Pier, the Griffith Observatory and Beverly Hills (plenty of Ubers around but also close to public transit, which helped us get around). The owner/host is very kind and helpful if you need any advice or information about the city. Would go back here in case of another LA visit
This motel is generally adequate. There are some plus points, we stayed in room 7 which had a separate kitchenette which was useful and the parking is good. But unfortunately we did have some issues which really let it down; The room was dirty. We would have a shower, walk out of the bathroom and the soles of your feet would be black by the time you put your socks on. The bathroom itself really needs an update, the bath was filthy and there is no ventilation so after someone has showered everything was damp and there were four of us in the room. But my biggest issue was the way they handle your payments. I booked all hotels on this trip on a ‘pay at check in’ basis as I wanted to use local currency via my prepaid travel Mastercard to avoid non sterling bank charges. And in our 6 other hotels this wasn’t an issue but here they ignored this and took a “pre-authorisation” of the full amount for the 5 nights stay, a week before we arrived (and before the free cancellation date had expired btw) then two days before we arrived they also processed the full payment meaning they took 2x the full amount of the stay, almost $1000. I explained in check in that they shouldn’t have done this but they were advised to by Booking.com. (I didn’t even book through booking.com, I used Agoda who were equally unhelpful) They said to get the money back I need to to call Booking.com, I spoke to them and they, correctly, told me to go back to the hotel as they held the payment and needed to release it. All in all, it was just a headache I didn’t need whilst on holiday. The bottom line is they ignore the fact people book on ‘pay at check in’ and take it anyway, which is wrong. I did incur non sterling transaction fees and the owners response was ‘well, you got this room at a great rate anyway so it evens out’. I have since had the pre- authorisation payment returned to my account after three weeks but some people may need this money which travelling so please be aware that they do this!…
We stayed at the Hollywood Downtowner for two nights and had a great stay. The room was good and the beds were comfortable and we all slept well. Check in was easy even though we were early and the owner was very friendly and helpful. The whole site feels very secure and staff were friendly. The pool was a little cold but we did swim both days at 9am so it had not been warmed by the sun yet! Great location and price. We would definitely recommend this hotel.
