We stayed at the Short Stories Hotel after an unexpected change in plans, and I’m so glad we did! It’s a lovely, boutique hotel with so much charm. The hotel is clean, quiet and walkable. Zach at the front desk was so kind to me and my kids after a very long day. Would definitely recommend!

Hotel's Favourite
Came to LA with my teenage daughter after a cheerleading competition from Australia and was looking for somewhere that was safe, comfortable and within walking distance to shops, restaurants etc. Short stories fit the brief perfectly. The hotel is beautiful with a courtyard that is lovely lit up at night. The rooms were a good size with comfy beds and filled with little extras like magazines, books and nice bath products. Coffee and tea are also available every morning on your way out for the day. The location of the hotel is perfectly situated across the road from the farmers market, the Grove and a big bus hop on off bus stop. Down the road are Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. I personally loved the area and would always chose to stay here on return visits. I found the staff pleasant and helpful especially on our last day where the gentleman at the front desk went above and beyond to assist us when we had a late flight.

Hands down my favourite hotel I’ve stayed in in Los Angeles, and I’ve stayed in a lot! The hotel is super cute, the rooms are lovely and comfortable, the food in the restaurant is 10/10 and the service is excellent! The location is fantastic too especially if you like ‘The Grove’ - all you need to do is cross over the road. Would definitely stay here again!

Absolutely loved this sweet, stylish, quiet, perfectly located spot. We were visiting to see family and celebrate a birthday and this ended up being such a great experience start to finish. To start, the rooms are good-sized, very comfortable, and pristine. We were on US east coast time and slept so well in the very comfy bed. The Grove is right across the street should you want to do some shopping or grab lunch. The highlight for us was also the staff - kind, attentive, and fun. Special shout-out to Cat and Jeremy at the restaurant. We would definitely return and recommend it to anyone who wants a charming Mid City stay.

I could not have been happier with Short Stories! A perfect little boutique hotel. Old school but completely new. Beautiful courtyard and fountain, and excellent little restaurant. The pool was warm, the rooms were cute, the staff were sweet and the cocktails perfect for sitting and working in the sun. And it’s literally across the street from The Grove. A perfect location. This is now my goto place to stay in LA and I will be back!

The service and style were both amazing. The vibe is fresh and modern. And the location is perfect right across from the farmers market. The rooms were stylish and clean. I highly recommend the accomodation. I plan to stay there again. Thanks to the staff! .

Beautiful unique boutique hotel in a perfect location. I rarely write reviews, but this one deserves it!! I have been staying in different hotels around LA while I am looking for a new apartment. This one is my favorite, and ended up staying for weeks. The design in the rooms are different and fun, it’s clean and very comfortable bed. Staff at the front desk, bar/restaurant and housekeeping are so friendly and always helpful if I need anything. Housekeeping comes both morning and evening. The backyard is soooooo pretty. Even with a busy location, it still feels private, which I appreciate. Truly recommend this hotel if you have the chance.

I normally love to tell fellow travelers about wonderful hotels. However, this review is not at all a love letter. I was recently in LA for business and stayed at Short Stories for 3 nights...by myself. Everything was great until my last night. Upon returning to my room after being away all day, I began to realize I had personal items missing (as well as the hotels mini bar and bathroom toiletries.) I immediately called the front desk and a lovely night clerk ran right up. He was effusively apologetic, took pictures and told me how serious this was. When I got ready to check out the following morning & discovered more items missing, I stopped at the front desk to mention more things were missing. It was at this point I was assured the GM would be coming in and would contact me immediately. This was Saturday morning. By Monday evening, I still had not been contacted so I left a VM with the GM. About 2 hrs later another front desk clerk emailed me and told me they would be giving me a $87 credit for 1 nights valet and nominal food/bev charge. I sent an itemized list of what was stolen (totaling about $350 so nothing earth shattering) but did not receive a response. I have now filed a police report, which I can assure any traveler, the hotel did not and has not to date. Please don't misunderstand, I am not looking for a cash windfall here. That is not the point. But rather, I am shocked a place of business that depends entirely on public feedback would be so dismissive & disrespectful of customers. I do a lot of business in LA and have stayed at other hotels where this would not happen. So please, BEWARE! esp a woman traveling alone. The Short Stories Management staff seems to care less if someone breaks into your room and steals weird items. It is clearly an inside job & something tells me this has happened to other guests. (Update: The GM has finally responded with a very dismissive & condescending tone. WOW!) In all of my years of traveling, I have never had such a creepy experience. Please do yourself a favor, STAY AWAY!!!

Dear Escape18988140897, Thank you for your review and for your recent stay with us. We are very sorry to hear that your stay with us went so poorly. As you can see from our many reviews, we have never faced an accusation of theft. While we take the safety and security of our guests and their belongings as our number one priority, we apologize that you feel that this wasn't the case. I think that it is important for the tripadvisor community to understand that the reported missing items was used make-up and our own minibar items. I'm sure that your used make-up is definitely important to you, but I'm not sure that it is of any value to other people. We attempted to reconcile the issue with you by offering a credit of $140 for these items (even though we believe nothing was removed from your room) but you insisted on addressing the issue with local law enforcement which we respect as your right. We await the the response from them and plan on being as cooperative as possible with their investigation. Nonetheless, we are sorry to hear that you will no longer be staying with us and hope that you are able to find better accomodations on your next visit to LA. Thank you again

Loved the vibe & location of this cute boutique hotel, the only thing I would say is the rooms are very small if you are traveling with family (unless you have 1 kiddo or maybe toddlers), it's kind of cramped. There also isn't breakfast or lunch (but I mean the Farmers Market/Grove is literally across the street) but their dinner/restaurant was really nice & food was good! They do serve daily morning coffee in the beautiful lobby. Decent but small pool, used it once (heated which is nice) for a quick dip. Friendly staff, got a complimentary blueberry lemonade upon arrival. Very cute decor & vibe & comfy beds, just on the smaller side.

Staff very nice and accommodating- I was walked to the elevator which was nice. Restaurant on site if needed but I didn’t try it as events seem to be common. Other reviews complained about noise but it was a non issue for me. Well stocked room and minibar. Courtyard area with coffee was lovely and sunny. Pool is kind of strange and enclosed- didn’t look appealing to me personally. Overall a really good product and probably the best option near The Grove but be aware that it’s very much a small boutique hotel that will have unique pros and cons compared to a name brand.
