When I arrived at the hotel we were greeted with the valet staff. One opened my door, the other opened the driver side, and one other waited to unload my luggages. I thought that was very nice! What a welcome! We were then directed to the front desk (practically the check-in area is a huge desk with two cushiony chairs). The desk clerk was very fast, friendly, and accurate. It was definitely a hip place. The room we got was located at the courtyard - in the middle of dinner where a lot of people were talking, music, etc. It was quite noisy for sure. Even with the door closed to our room, we could still hear the chatter, glass/china dishes, and the music. We immediately requested for another room on the second floor as it was just too noisy at the first floor. We were immediately given a second floor room. We can still hear the noise and chatter, but not as bad as the first floor. The room itself was immaculate and nice. The bed was comfortable, the toilet had plush towels, and I like how it was very clean. There was a bar with chips/snacks, etc. Pricey of course. And there was a balcony where you can sit and enjoy the music outside. I like the curtains all over the hotel. It kind of reminded me of Greece for some weird reason. I do wonder though if they wash it or what happens if it rains. The room did not have an iron, coffee maker, or microwave. There is a mini-fridge full of alcohol and drinks, so not much space to put any leftover food. Wifi was good. And robes were provided. The music and chatter stopped around 11 p.m. Not bad as it's usually the time I go to sleep anyway. However, the music started again at exactly 7 a.m. It served as my alarm clock. I didn't eat breakfast at the hotel premise as I figured it would be pricey. Instead I walked over to Farmer Boys for breakfast (a block away). There's also a Ralphs grocery store next door if you want to just buy yogurt, a banana, and a pastry. I like how the valet staff was amazingly attentive. Every time I requested my car, it was practically ready. I would rate this hotel five stars if it were not for the loud music playing all night and early morning. Check-out was not bad. I waited a while as no one was at the desk at first. But the assistant that usually helps with the luggage saw us and checked us out. He was knowledgeable and checked us out instead. Overall, it was a very good hotel. It was located in an area I wanted to be in. Close to where I was going. The neighborhood could be better, but it's not that bad. On a side note, it was definitely a hotel for Instagram/social media users. I never saw so many people taking selfies and pictures of themselves non-stop in one place. It was just weird as all I saw were phones being held up in the air taking pictures. It was very interesting. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the pictures posted had me in it.…
For once, the one star and the the five star reviews are both right. It all depend on what you want. But, be assured, this hotel does not have it all. If you are looking for a clean room in a convenient location at a hotel with a nice vibe and great on-site restaurant, this is the place. If you are looking for a quiet and spacious room at a hotel with convenient parking and coffee maker in your room, this is not the place.
A few weeks ago my sister and I came down to LA from SF to spend the last 10 days with a terminally ill loved one at the Sunset Kaiser. I searched for a clean hotel closest to the hospital so my sister and I could freshen up and get some rest between the hospital visits. I selected Cara Hotel where we stayed for 9 nights. First of all, I want to thank all the hotel and valet staff for their excellent services and hospitality. Everyone truly made us feel comfortable as possible during this very difficult time. In the early mornings, Adi warmly greeted and directed me to my car when I left the hotel to the hospital (valet staff starts working at 7 am). Also, when I had an issue with the safe box in the room, Adi and the other staff addressed the issue right away. Late at night when I return back from the hospital, Alex welcomed me with the sweetest greets and even on the sold-out Saturday night, she managed right away to book us a canceled room for us. She gave me so much bright and positive energy during our most difficult times. And Alex, you’re such an angel 😇. Danner at the valet, even though one of your staff members mixed up my key card with another guest caused so much trouble for me but your service was excellent every night when I return back to the hotel after an emotionally long hard day. Lastly, Marlon the general manager, I want to say thank you for the valet credits and for letting us stay day by day without knowing the checkout date. I heard you made that happen. You have an awesome, professional, and friendly staff that makes your guests happy and satisfied. As for the review of the hotel itself here are my thoughts. This hotel is a rectangular-shaped structure with 2 floors. Most of the rooms have a balcony upstairs and a courtyard downstairs. There's water in the middle with restaurant tables along the side. So any room you stay in you can see and hear people eating and drinking. Pros: The hotel is beautiful and chic (good for social media). Very clean room with a comfortable bed, luxurious sheets, and blankets. Good quality amenities. Great location for everything. Professional and friendly staff. A beautiful restaurant and bar on site. Cons: The hotel is not ideal for people seeking relaxation and quiet. Day, night, weekdays, and weekends there's a crowd hanging out at the restaurant and bar with loud music. $38 a day valet parking only. Unfortunately during my visit, I didn't get a chance to try the restaurant and bar due to the circumstances but I'm coming back in June with my husband to celebrate our 22nd anniversary. I already made the reservation for the room and the restaurant. This time, I want to fully enjoy the hotel. Hopefully, the restaurant is good as the rest of the hotel. I'll post the follow-up restaurant and bar review after.…
Even though the ambience was nice and summery european, I have never felt the hospitality aspect not even by a long shot. This establishment will never be a proper hotel - it all looks like the most important part of the building is its restaurant as it was always packed and, by the way, very noisy in the rooms when trying to sleep. Staff members were greeting us as if it was the first time we entered the hotel (even after we stayed for 5 days there). Most importantly, items have been stolen (or thrown away) from my room and guest car keys have been stolen by the valet because of incompetency. Luckily they found ours after some time. After a complaint being made, the management wrote back to me but then vanished and never replied back. Very expensive for what it offers as well. STAY AWAY.…
This place was dreamy! Serene and fresh decor, luxurious bedding, sundries that smelled incredible and they made great use of the space. I'm glad I read the previous reviews about the courtyard being a restaurant so we stayed on the 2nd floor in a balcony room (room 28 to be exact). The hotel is in a great location when seeing a show at The Greek Theatre (rideshared there and walked back). We made reservations to eat at the restaurant as recommended; it was lovely, service was great and the olive oil cake did not disappoint. The huevos rancheros and salmon benedict we ordered for room service was my favorite meal. When we come back we're planning on stepping up our wardrobe as it's easy to feel underdressed here.
This is a beautiful restaurant. The tables are arranged around a pool with the rooms on the first floor overlooking the pool. This used to be a very rough motel known for its ‘rent by the hour’ rooms. The renovation is stunning. Beautiful little cosy bar just the main foyer. The food was excellent. My main course was lamb chops and I added lemon pasta which was so good I ordered another portion. The roasted Brussels sprouts and mash were lovely as well. I think it’s expensive $270 for two with 4 glasses of wine. Would definitely go back again
I stayed here for a one night staycation and enjoyed it - the rooms were small but really nice and luxurious feeling. The courtyard is very beautiful at night, however, if you are looking for a really quiet room there's just not enough space at the hotel for this to be provided due to the proximity of the courtyard to the rooms. I did have sort of a weird/off-putting experience, where my girlfriend met me later the next day after checkout for some drinks and food - there was an issue with the water at the hotel and manager was chatting us up, and apologized for not being able to make espresso martinis due to the water - it really wasn't a big deal, but then he came by enthusiastically saying that he was going to BRING us some espresso martinis which we were delighted by - but I guess by BRING he meant, um, charge us and serve them while we had two full drinks? Kinda weird way to upsell something?…
This is really a charming place, however, the restaurant seating and entertainment is within touch of the doors to the rooms on each side. Does that bode to good quiet atmosphere at night? Absolutely not! There are also no plugs in the bathrooms to use hair dryers etc. No two bed choices. I don't believe for the price I would stay there again. I shouldn't have to put on white sound on the phone to block out the evening noise until after midnight because the restaurant and other entertainment is right outside my room. No thank you.
I fear I've already told too many people about this beautiful property in Los Feliz... but honestly - it's so lovely and tranquil, with really thoughtfully beautiful decor. My entire stay felt like I was living in a Nancy Meyers movie -- truly one of the greatest compliments I can bestow. If privacy is your tip top concern, this is probably not the place for you (only because the central courtyard is a scene-y thoroughfare) -- but if beauty, service, great food and super comfortable beds and rooms is your thing and you're looking to be in East LA -- give this place a try~
We stopped by around sunset to try out the rooftop bar/restaurant. It did not disappoint. The meal hit the spot without being overly fancy. Steak frites and delicious taco meal preceded by mushroom flan/flatbread. The mezcal cocktail tied it all together. Not only that, but the design impeccable (thanks Kelly) and the view made the meal even more special. The staff was attentive without being overbearing, and they seemed experienced and highly professional. Would definitely go back!
