A friend stayed at samesun in Canada and recommended it to me. I booked it and it's probably been my favourite hostel in the states! Awesome place to stay as a solo traveller. Made loads on friends really easy. Friendly staff and awesome location!

I had a very enjoyable stay at Samesun Venice Beach hostel. I was there for thirsty Thursday, where I was able to meet a lot of very fun, young people. The employees were very nice and personable, and the room I stayed in was perfect for what I needed.

The atmosphere was good. Facilities were poor though, room didn't have proper ventilation and the bunk beds were very uncomfortable. Towels not provided. I stayed at the HI Santa Monica on my way back, and for ten same price it was a far better hostel. It was cleaner, better location, great facilities and even had my own charger and lamp.

The Samesun is at one of the best locations in Venice Beach - steps to the beach, boardwalk, restaurants, shops, etc. The single rooms are a bit hit-and-miss. The first one they gave me had a view of the wall, and the lights weren't working. Although after initially saying there were no other rooms, I eventually got moved to another...

This hostel has a perfect situation on Venice Beach, and easy to reach from LAX (airport). Only one issue : kitchen is too small and poop equipments. I recommend it for a short stay, and starting a trip in CA.

The beds made this place for me. They were actually mattresses!!! This was a unusual hostel for me as a solo traveler. The ambiance of the hostel was strange, people while I was there were really reserved and didn't want to interact with others. The kitchen is great but crowded in the morning! So get there early! The rooms were...

Best hostel in LA! Right on the beach, fantastic security and such a great atmosphere. The staff are really what make this place stand out. I've never stayed somewhere that so much effort is put into taking care of their guests. Whether you're here on your own or with a group of friends, you will leave with a bunch more!...

Was nice to be so near venice because you can get the energy of the people in the beach by day. By night you don't have many places to go around without a car. The room was clean and safe for your backpack, good breakfast included (you prepare for yourself).

Loved it :) The location is wonderful. I stayed in a female dorm which was clean, with it's own bathroom. Clean and comfy. The front desk staff are very helpful and friendly. The kitchen and dining areas were cozy and comfortable.

It was the 2nd time I stayed here while transiting through the US to elsewhere. I enjoy the place. Good restaurants nearby and some cheap places whole in the wall style places to eat by the beach. Can hear the LOUD music from the bars but it doesn't really matter because you should experience them anyway.

Staying in Venice

Neighbourhood Profile
Venice
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.
