We were backpacking & walked from the train station (took around 35 minutes). Somehow we got on the shopping street (mostly closed to traffic). Right when we thought we were lost, there was Tsuruya. So much history in the photos in its halls. The Japanese room was very comfortable with a few chairs for us to look at some greenery....

when I arrived at this small Ryokan in the middle of a hiking tour from Nagoya, I felt so relieved to see this Ryokan located at the end of the shopping street with a unique western style lobby and I did not have to immediately take off my shoes until I enter my own room. The staff were friendly and...

We stayed one night here on the fourth day of our walk, arriving by train and walking up through the town which had a Western feel with wide avenue and trees on each side. We turned right, and there was a shopping street at the top of which was our Ryokan. The lobby had Western style armchairs, a piano, books,...

This Ryokan is old and established. The service level is very good, food is excellent and comes with full facilities from laundry room to private dining rooms for guests as well as a very nice onsen. This is my second time back and the location is also very good next to a red brick shopping street down the road (a...

The ryokan is strategically located between nature with lots of greenery and streets with shops, cafe & bakeries. The reception staff speaks good English which is great. Room is well equipped except for shower bath and conditioner which I have to ask for it at the reception, unless you go to the public bath which has everything. Dinner served was...

My hubby and i stayed in this hotel as part of our nakasendo walk. It is situated at the end of a "shopping street" and a very pleasant walk from the train station. I really like the ambience of this 400 year ryokan, their dinner spread was well presented and tasty, including fugu sashimi and fatty blue fin tuna. The...

My boyfriend and I stayed there for three evenings in October. This resort was recommended by by Japanese co worker. This resort has the longest history in karuizawa. The decoration and amenities were all very traditional, love it! They provided shabu shabu or sukiyaki dinner every night. Tons of food. Awesome service. There was a public hot bath and perfect...

It is a traditional ryokan located near the far end of the karuizawa ginza shopping street. If your luggages are with you, I recommend you taking a taxi from the JR station, it is almost 5 minutes ride which cost about JPY 2200. Otherwise, it will take you more than 30 minutes for walking. The staff of this ryokan speak...

1. Great location:It is located the the quiet end of the nice old Karuizawa. Many shops, hiking trails, river, church's, attractions are within walking distance while away from the crowd. Bus station is nearby. The location is very ideal. My husband wasn't felling well, so I can walk around myself. 2. Great meals: we had breakfast and dinner at the hotel...

We stayed here on our last night of four on the Nakasendo Trail. The Ryokan is superb. Rooms are very comfortable – and include a couple of western chairs, which was a great relief for our tired legs. Dinner was exceptional. Starting with fugu (a little bland despite the frisson – but not life-threatening) we then tasted some of the...
