I've stayed here around a half-dozen times over the past decade. They've previously been good stays, though I recall some displeasure with the prior stay and unfortunately didn't write a review of it to remember what it was about. After this most recent stay I will be looking for different accommodations in Kernville. I don't know if the ownership/management has changed or what, but it's not for the better. The problems: #1 - You're not a resort. Don't charge a hidden $10 resort fee. Having a game room, a couple grills, and gliders outside the rooms does not make a resort, and certainly does not merit a secret $10 fee that is not disclosed in the line item summary and total cost when booking. Charge $10 more for the room if you need $10 more revenue and don't hide the fee. #2 - What is with the taped up papers announcing $50 charge for A/C set below 72 °F and $100 charge for taking a room towel to the pool? This is not the ambiance I want at a "resort", and those penalties are absurd compared to the cost of the action. #3 - NO HOT WATER. We went to take showers at around 9 PM only to find zero hot water. Wife went to the front desk who said they'd have someone come check it out. No idea if that happened - we never heard anything else. It was still cold when we went to sleep so we figured we'd at least shower in the morning. Nope, still cold, so we dropped the keys in the box and left before the standard late opening of the front desk. Never received any apologies, comp, or anything else.

I had a great stay at the Kern Lodge!!! I made a 1 minute overview video of my stay. You can find it on YouTube by searching for the title "Review of Kern Lodge (Seascape Room; Room 116)." You can watch the video or read on for the reasons why I enjoyed my stay! I loved the Seaside room (room 116) because it was suite, equipped with two beds, a TV, full-size mirror, air conditioner, and kitchen. The kitchen was an electric stove top and had all of the cooking tools and kitchen utensils. There was also a coffee maker and complimentary coffee. Room 116 is cool because it's at one end, so you only have neighbors on one side. Overall it was a great experience. The rustic feel of the room was a total plus. The staff was super chill. The facility amenities include a BBQ/picnic area, life size chess and checkers (actually next to room 116), a game room, and a pool. I also loved that it's a few steps away from Kern Brewing Co.

Justice checked me in and was friendly and helpful. I was just staying one night on my way home from a three week assignment. The bed was very nice - granted I have been sleeping on the ground for three weeks. Room was very clean, and next to a brewery. I would stay here again!

I have been staying at the Kern Lodge yearly, sometimes two times a year for the past 7 years. The rooms have always been clean, towels clean and plentiful and the front desk staff friendly and helpful. At my last two night stay, things have gone drastically downhill. Firstly, the front desk staff was late for my 3 O'clock check-in and when she did show up I got an attitude, not an apology. Our room was not cleaned well, trash can full from last guests and just one towel each. When I asked for more towels, the same "cheerful" staff person told me no, they don't have any. That was just 5' from the supply room where there were stacks of clean towels visible. And the towels that were in the room, although laundered, were dingy and stained. As our unit had a kitchenette, I asked for 1 paper towel roll and a dish cloth as prior to this stay, our rooms always had these nice amenities in the kitchen and our room this time had nothing. I was told some lame excuse about "because of Covid" they didn't have paper towels. I told the "friendly-helpful" staff person that ok, I'll go across the street to the market and buy one as their shelves were full of them. Disappointing to say the least. There are other options in Kernville and I won't be staying at the Kern Lodge again.

My family of 4 stayed at the Kern Lodge for two nights in early August. We drove several hours from San Diego and arrived at 2pm for a 3pm check-in. A few hours prior to arriving, I had called several times hoping to get someone on the phone to ask about early check-in but every time I called no person answered. So, when we arrived an hour early and the room was not ready that was fine. They said to come back at 3pm. We just took a little drive and looked at the river. We returned at 3pm And the room was still not ready. I would like to say that the person in the office was very friendly but we were pretty road-weary and had our dog with us and it was really hot out. So we were told it would be another 20 mins or so and so we twiddled our thumbs and killed more time and when we returned a third time and it was still not ready, we decided to just go eat dinner. We returned to the office at 6:30pm (3.5 hours after check-in time and 4.5 hours after arriving in Kernville) and we were finally given a key...however when we got to the room, the housekeeper was still in there! She quickly left and then came back with towels and a vacuum but then never vacuumed. So here I’m concerned about the Covid cleaning protocols b/c I feel it was a rushed clean even though they were 3.5 hours late getting us checked in and the cleaning wasn’t even completed. I do have to say that the girl behind the counter was very nice and offered me $45 off the total bill without me asking or complaining, which was appreciated. However, 3.5 hours delayed when they knew we were there I feel they should have prioritized our room. Whatever - at that point I was just happy to get inside and get our luggage and dog and kids inside and relax and get into a bed for some sleep. Ha! No sleep was had. Soon after we fell asleep we were woken up by the sound of loud scratching in the walls. Not just in one location but all over the two bedroom unit. Both nights we heard scratching and scurrying in the walls as well as the sound of scurrying across the floors in the dark. I was scared to get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Yuck! We also found mouse droppings. Clearly they knew of the problem b/c there was a mouse trap tucked in behind one of the doors. Our unit was Manzanita room 113 but the units are all connected and the mice were in the walls so I’m sure the other units have issues too. Mice can be very dangerous to human health. They can spread disease, such as hantavirus, salmonellosis and listeria through their urine, droppings, saliva and nesting materials. These diseases can be deadly, and if you have a major infestation, the risk factor of catching one increases. If they are in the walls (and they were) they can also cause an electrical fire by gnawing on wires - so it’s super unsafe. I wanted to like this place but I have to draw the line at mice. We should not have to sleep with vermin. Very disappointed.

7/30/20. We booked lodge #302 for Thursday-Saturday. The lodge is large and clean. 2 bedrooms with a HUGE fullsized bunkbed, 3 other beds, 2 pull out couch sleeperbeds in living room w/fireplace. Two outdoor parking spots out front. Full kitchen. The temperature hit a high of 107° today and it was cold inside this lodge with central heating that was so excellent, I had to turn down the temperature because it got too cold! Perfect for a steaming hot day. The pool area was nice after sunset and the temperature cooled a bit. We think the beds are memory foam and are nice and firm. Kern River brewing Company is next-door and a market & gas station are across the street. The river is 2/10 of a mile away...walking distance to most everything. Thank you Kern Lodge for a lovely stay! :) Cheers! DocMikeChiro

Came in to a lovely looking room only to find that the floors are covered in dust making my feet pitch black! Not only that, the beds were covered in dirt as if they weren’t washed and the towels smelled terrible. We had to wipe down every square foot of the room to make it remotely possible to walk barefoot. Clean. Your. Rooms.

My family just got home from our stay at Kern Lodge in room 302 - it was a spacious duplex, very cute and rustic. However, there were SO MANY PROBLEMS with the accommodations and management that I would never stay here again or recommend it to anyone. First, my reservations were cancelled without notifying me. They were able to fix that situation, BUT the room did not have HOT WATER. We were given a discount and told we could shower in another room and hopefully it would be fixed the next day. Ok. We were game to stay. When we got into the room, we noticed right away that it was not clean. We wiped every surface and washed all of the dishes. There were mouse droppings under the sink. The patio furniture was filthy and there was a lot of dog poop in the garden. The Wi-Fi did not work in this apartment and there was no phone. Both the shower and bath drip making very annoying sounds. The next morning we were surprised to hear road construction across the street from my bedroom window starting at 7am that I was never notified about. We also discovered that the coffee maker didn’t work. After returning from our day out, we discovered that the housekeeping did not come. We called the office twice AND stopped by the office twice to ask for: soap, TP, and towels. No one ever came to the room to take care of the situation. At my last stop at the office at 8pm, the woman who answered the phone told me the lodge HAS NO SOAP! Apparently they are waiting on a delivery of the liquid soap for the dispensers. I asked for a bar of soap and she said I could go to the store to buy one! I was quite irritated at this point and told her she needed to provide soap. SHE HUNG UP ON ME! Needless to say, I was livid. How could a hotel not provide soap during a pandemic? Our room finally was serviced while we were out on our last/3rd day there, but the staff never returned any of my calls. After going to the office one last time to try and get a replacement for the coffee machine on our last night. I was finally able to talk to one of the workers and explain our frustrations with the lodge management. I requested the owner’s contact information. She came back later with flowers, some champagne and a cake. That was nice, but doesn’t change my opinion of this lodge. This place is utterly ridiculous. Come at your own risk! (We only stayed there because we thought the management would respond and fix the situation, and because we needed to stay in a place with a kitchen. Never again!)

We called the day before we wanted to stay in kern on a last minute vacation plan. I spoke with a man named Nick who was so kind and gracious! He upgraded our room and the pet fee for two dogs combined was only $30. We arrived and checked in with a beautiful woman named Cory. She was so welcoming and full of smiles. Our room was clean and so comfortable. Can’t wait to tell our family how wonderful this lodge is. We will be back in 2 weeks or less. Room has big bathroom, useful kitchen, medium sized fridge, microwave, comfy beds, stone flooring, and accommodating enclosed patio. Highly recommend this lodge to family’s and anyone traveling with pets. Thank you so much! See you soon 😊 -Alyssa small
