Dear Annette , dear John, two days ago we were able to get a room with you by phone and at very short notice. Your response time and the service were great. We have received a commitment from you within a very short time. Unfortunately, we had to go to the city with our son because of a food problem and had no opportunity to stay in your rooms. Nevertheless, you were so accommodating to refund us the amount paid - that is very very nice of you. Best regards, Tanja
I Stayed at this property 10 years ago and it was cozy, quaint, and rustic...it was also clean and well maintained and the owner/operator was pleasant and welcoming. We stayed three nights last week and it was horrible. The country blue carpet was stained horribly and actually looked gray in the traffic areas. The handle on the toilet fell off with first use, and none of the lamps were plugged in when we arrived. Fortunately there was a ceiling fan as the air conditioner shut off if turned lower than 75 degrees (it was 80 outside). Also, the advertised continental breakfast consisted of coffee only. The rooms and the grounds looked sad and unkempt. Lots of cigarette butts, brush, trash, etc. littering the property. The hand railings were old and splintered, and ready to fall. The light shining on our deck was a light bulb hanging by a wire. We were never greeted or welcomed. We received a text message that our key and receipt was in the room and the door was unlocked. The owner/operators hung around our deck smoking and talking loudly while they panned for gold. Maybe more time should be spent cleaning up the property.…
My boyfriend and I go yearly to Kernville to celebrate our birthdays. This rustic, quaint lodge is not only pet friendly, but the staff treats you like family. My daughter forgot her 34 year old teddy bear, all tattered and torn, and they immediately found it and returned it to us. They went above and beyond, that bear was irreplaceable. The convenient location to all restaurants and unique shops is a huge plus. We will continue our yearly tradition on staying there every year. Thank you, and your staff for providing excellent service.
The four poster bed was cute until I realized it was so high I needed to jump up on it. The wicker chair was a nice touch until I could put my hand through the back. This was the first place I stayed in which the bottom of my shoes was cleaner than the rug. Couldn't understand why the carpet was never vacuumed, and for two days the garbage in my room and cigarette butts outside my door remained. It would have taken so little (both in cost and effort) to boost this property's rating to excellent. Just a little more detail to cleanliness, daily replenishing of shampoo and cups in the room. Fresh fruit in the lobby area was a very nice touch. If it costs too much to replace the carpet (multiple stains) at least do a deep cleaning.
Quaint hotel with courteous staff. Got an upgrade which was really nice and they only charge a flat pet fee— so if you have two pets you don’t pay extra. Short convenient hop to the river, warm showers. Could have a little better breakfast selection. Nothing fancy but then again, there’s nothing fancy about Kernville! Right by the Kern River. Great for a relaxing, overnight stay.
Right from checking in, we knew that our stay was going to be great. The attendant was courteous and knowledgeable. He gave us information about the area, provided maps for parking and excellent places to dine in, as well as the amenities available to guests like the pool and the game room. Parking is designated and is right infront of our room, so unloading was a breeze. The place is secure with double locks. The room we had had polished wooden walls and ceilings. A fridge and microwave was available, so was a coffee machine. Linens smell clean and there was a generous stack of towels. A modern TV, conveniences like a USB hub and a split type fully controllable A/C are notable. The beds - they're the star of the show! It's just perfect. The next day, I asked the front desk clerk what they were, and she said they are Tempurepedic. No wonder I just dozed off right away after arriving. We were advised that there was going to be some noise from the adjacent Kern brewery, and we were expecting a lot of it since it was a Saturday when we came in, but there wasn't much at all. Quiet time is 10 pm... and it was very quiet even by 9. I woke up early morning and sat on the rocking bench to just soak in the scenery, which was quite beautiful from where I was. Also noticed that the pool was being cleaned, which is nice if it were on summer days as it seems it's done daily. Our stay was a pleasant one, and we slept real well with the shutters sealing properly. I'd stay there for sure the next time we come by.…
I'm going with 3 stars since the location to the river is nice. And we were able to walk to get dinner across the bridge. From our room out back, we could see the river - just a little obscured by the RV park and the fuel tank enclosed by a chain link fence. There's nothing fancy about the rooms, beds, bath...just the bare essentials. Walls were so thin we could hear the entire conversations happening on each side of us. If you are tired from a long day on the river, this would be the place to crash for a night.
This hotel was exactly what you'd expect for the price. My parents have lived in the area for almost 20 years and the rustic vibe of this place was very much in line with the local community vibe. We just wanted a place to sleep and it was clean and nice. Not anything fancy. Furniture was old and worn, bed was hard if you like that, but it was fairly clean and it didn't feel creepy or dirty. Decor was very homey and bed had real sheets and country comforter rather than something sterile. Not sure I liked it, but the bedding was clean and I did like that! It was right on the Kern River with a great little beach area. They had a nice picnic area and a place to play basketball. Would be a great place at a good price for families. It's actually a little more than we expected for the price due to the cute environment. The wear and tear was a little disappointing, but it was clean and the added extras outside was very nice. We would stay here again.…
When we opened the door right away it smelled old. Everything looked dark because the shades where drawn and the ceiling light was dim, no lamps next to the bed so I tried to open the window shade and the spring was sprung. So I rolled it up by hand and opened the window. I noticed the old lock on the window and wondered if it would lock. So I shut the window and it would not lock. The window was not matching the sill so it was to high to allow the window to lock. No bedside lamps. Not even one. After checking the linen, we figured to leave once we noticed oily stains on the maroon pillow case and stains on the quilt and stretched old green carpet. The office was nice enough to not charge us for the room. We didn’t stay.
The photos don't do this hotel justice. While it looks kinda old and worn out, that's not the case at all. It's decorated super cute and is very, very clean. I'm really picky about that, so trust me when i say that. We brought our dogs and it was really comfortable. The have a pretty grass area and their own small little "beach" for the river. It was nice to have a spot to hang out that was away from the crowds but still on the water. The hotel location is very convenient. Check in and out was easy and everyone was friendly.
