My husband and I stayed in the Rose Bud Cottage at the Butterfield Bed and Breakfast in October. The room was disappointing. When we walked into the room, we were knocked over by an overpowering stench, like urine. It looks like the toilet has overflowed, and there was even a warning about it overflowing. We wonder if some urine had...

Thank you for your review. Let me begin by sharing with you and others this: owning and operating a B&B is, every day, the most gratifying endeavor Dawn and I have ever done. Every day we see cheerful guests, smiles and thanks. We provide a homey and comfortable environment for people. And, sometimes there are challenges and problems to solve....

I found the Butterfield Bed and Breakfast to be a great getaway from daily stress. While the decor may be a bit dated as mentioned by another reviewer, the place is clean, well appointed and quietly nestled in the hills near Julian. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. They have thought of just about everything you might need to...

I agree with a previous review. This B & B is in need of some TLC. This being said, the rooms are clean, and the overgrowth of landscaping actually provides areas of quiet, and fairly secluded places to sit and enjoy nature. The way the rooms are seperated from each other also provides nice privacy. Reasonable price compared to others...

We have stayed in many bed & breakfasts around the country having really had no bad experiences. This B&B by no means was a bad experience but I had a harder time rating it "Very Good". The rooms are definitely older, located on multi levels and are what I would call "dated". The room itself was very clean with a...

The Rosebud cottage provided us the privacy and space we desired during our stay at this lovely bed & breakfast. It was basically a large combined bedroom/sitting room with a wood stove in between. There was a separate bathroom vanity and shower area and a large walk-in closet. Plenty of room for two or more. The wood stove kept us...

Ed and Dawn were the perfect hosts tending to every whim. Fantastic breakfast. Stayed in the Stanza Italia room. Very comfortable with fireplace, queen size bed, conveniently located near the gazebo and dinning room. Outside of downtown Julian means walking around rural roads and trails. Saw wild turkeys, jay birds and other species.

We have family in Julian that we visit about once a year. We've stayed in a number of places, but had not discovered Butterfield until now. I can't imagine we'll stay anywhere else when we visit from now on. Our hosts, Ed and Dawn, are wonderful folks and seem to attract great guests as well. We were here three days...

My wife and I were looking for a short, relaxing and romantic weekend to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. We were fortunate that we found the Butterfield Bed & Breakfast, which fit the bill perfectly! Dawn and Ed have been doing this for many years, and they are extremely welcoming and gracious hosts. I believe they've owned the property for...

A lovely experience! First, the owners couldn't be more hospitable. The house is wonderful, very comfortable. The grounds are so inviting you'll want to sit in every place possible...comfy lounge chairs, the Gazebo, wooden double swing.....it's a beautiful, peaceful environment. On top of all this is the Breakfast, this is not your regular breakfast , it is poaitively delicious!

“The Butterfield B&B is located on a quiet road with no distractions and it is very quiet. Since the facility is over 80 years old, it has a rustic noises and the wood beams creek, so if you are a light sleeper, you might want to have ear plugs or light the fire with a crackling log.”
