Where the scenic Russian River meets the crashing Pacific, the landmark Jenner Inn awaits you. Tracing its roots to 1904, the Jenner Inn began life as a lumber mill and played a critical role in the rebuilding of San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake and fire. After the original hotel on the site was destroyed by fire in 1948, the current main structure was built—a one-of-a-kind redwood building with galleon windows, wheel-beamed ceilings, and solid oak floors—its design reminiscent of a sailing ship (not surprising since the craftsmen who constructed it were Swedish boat-builders). The building is believed to have been designed by an associate of famed architect Julia Morgan. Today the Jenner Inn is a collection of 21 rooms and free-standing cottages scattered throughout the village, many of them dating to the era of the town’s founding. The surrounding natural scenery, quaint village atmosphere, and proximity to Sonoma Wine Country will add to the experience of your stay. Every room at the Jenner Inn is unique, offering a romantic destination emphasizing the natural beauty and activities of west Sonoma, including kayaking, whale and seal watching, abalone diving, fishing, bicycling, and the world-class Sonoma wine and food bounty. Guests may choose from any of eight lodging types, ranging from the cottages with waterfront, meadow, or grotto views; to the comfortable creek-side rooms and suites and private studios. Many have kitchens, most have water views, some have private decks, and all offer comfort, privacy, and charm.

Wife & I spent 1 night in the Boat House suite right after Labor Day. Initially we were very excited to stay the night on our way up route 1 (during the most recent fires).
Here is my critique.
Positives:
* location
* Quaint
* Great view of the river
* Clean
* The bed (comfortable)
* Microwave & fridge
Negatives:
* very weak wifi / no internet
* No tv
* Room value $
* Shower (poor design)
* Not enough electric outlets
* Screen door comes off the patio door when opened
* Bed was short sheeted
* You can hear your neighbor walk & talk (Grey whale)
* Mediocre breakfast bag
I can only recommend this property for a one night stay & give it a 3.5 but wished it was higher.

We arrived at 7pm, just before the closed the office. There were not many other choices, so we went for the Jenner inn. After we did all the paperwork and went to our room, the first disappointment. There is a huge bush, that blocks the view to the sunset from the terrace. Well, we went to the „picnic area“ and enjoyed the view from there. The room itself looked clean, but was cold and there was just a small heater inside the room, which we also had to put tongue bathroom, as there was no heating and it was really cold in there. The shower gel had already been used by an earlier guest and I think it should have been replaced. The breakfast was also ok, but also this place was quite cold. If I compare the price of the hotel with other hotels, I won‘t stay another night at Jenner Inn as long as they don’t do a make over of that place and heat it up a bit. The staff (what we met), was nice and helpful.

We are mostly spontaneous with our weekend jaunts. I was surprised to learn that I was able to book a room the same week we went. Now, this may have had something to do with COVID-19 and canceled reservations possibly and the fact the day I made the reservations (a Monday) hotels were not allowed to be open in Sonoma County, however, the Friday we arrived (June19th) was the FIRST day Sonoma County opened up for hotels, so, maybe they allowed my reservation knowing they could legally be open?
It is clear that they are making the extra effort in cleaning with signs and wearing masks when entering the office.
Anyhow, only two rooms were available, so naturally, we took the waterfront room, the Heron. Eight of their units are located on the other side of Highway 1, and there are thirteen units that are on the waterfront with a beautiful view of the Russian River estuary.
The Heron is one of three units at the "River House." Its a cute little place and very tiny, but, that is okay. The Heron boasts the largest patio of all the units I was told.
No television as some of the units don't have televisions, and that is okay. The Wifi was iffy, but, that is explained on their website. It is Victorian style furnishings. The bed was comfortable and again, the view ever so nice.
At the time of our stay, their restaurant was closed, but we walked up to the River End restaurant up the hill a bit on Highway 1, a 10 minute walk.
If you reserve ahead of time, take the time to look at each room and the amenities they each provide and choose which is best for you. We prefer a bit more privacy, and being that we had two neighbors, we didn't really have that privacy, but, it was quiet and that is important.
The staff (the only one we saw when we checked in) was very friendly and helpful. She gave us an idea of where to eat and what was open. There is a cafe and a gas station close with a small market and where we picked up deli sandwiches for the beach.

We came here to celebrate an anniversary. The room we wanted (with outdoor deck) was unavailable so we stayed in the Starlight Cottage adjacent to the roadway. The plus was that you didn’t have to descend a steep stairway to reach your room but the negative was you didn’t have an outdoor deck to sit on. Nevertheless, the room had three huge windows from which we could enjoy the spectacular views of the Russian River. The room was also very large and despite it being next to the roadway it was very quiet. The room was furnished with two sitting chairs & coffee table & comfortable lounge chair & had a dining table with two chairs. The room also had a kitchenette with sink, plates, cups, wine glasses & stainless steel flatware which was convenient!
BreaKfast in a box (juice, muffins, banana, etc.) was provided for Covid-safety as on site restaurant was closed.
At 4pm when we checked in we were unaware there are almost no restaurants in town. The hotel staff recommended two places but one place was out of everything we wanted to order & the other was closed for the day. A nicer restaurant was booked requiring advance reservations, which staff suggested we do the next morning (good tip). So we picked up take out food in Bodega Bay. (If driving in from south best to stop in Bodega for dinner first).
Staff was very helpful & on our last day we rented a tandem kayak which was quite enjoyable—especially after having watched so many other people kayaking from our room! Very peaceful & idyllic place to stay.

We stayed for a night in one of the lower rooms in the riverside cottages, with view on the river and large deck. The room and bath room were crafty, cozy, charming and warm, with electric heater (it was cold outside). Bathroom large, tiled, with shelf in shower/tub, coat closet, drawers, and decorative sink. We woke up to the sight of seals swimming up the stream and flocks of cormorants floating like a 'corps de ballet' from one side of the river to the other.
The bar and restaurant are in a historic crafts building and serve good food. We were lucky to even have live music (Friday), making our evening that more special. The continental breakfast buffet on the other side of the same building as the bar was basic, but good. Coffee maker in the room is above standard, actually tasty (if you limit the amount of water). Queen bed is good, all clean. Just be aware there's upstairs and next-door neighbors, so keep it down a bit, all:) All in all, this is excellent value for the money and a very 'fitting' stop along the coast.
Tip: don't miss the Goat rock beach just across the river; it gives access to both river side beaches and the ocean, We saw many harbor seals (with pups), a bald eagle, and many ducks. The little town has a gas pump, store, excellent cafe for coffees, breakfast and lunches, as well as a wine bar/gift shop, and a kayak rental place.

We needed an overnight getaway and with Covid complications we decided to stay close to home. My husband and I escaped to the Jenner Inn ( 50 minutes from home) where we spent a cozy, relaxing and quiet overnight on the Russian River. So close to the ocean we could hear it from our balcony! Every staff member welcomed us with warmth, hospitality and a professional style. Jenner Inn has kayaks for rent so for two hours we had some river fun and even pulled up to a local cafe to hear some live music while sitting in our double kayak. We ordered take out from the River's End Restaurant (delicious) and ate dinner while enjoying local wines on our large deck at sunset. We stayed in the Milky Way and highly recommend it.
Next time we will stay for a minimum of two nights!

So glad I found this rustic (sort of) cute, romantic (sort of) hideaway across from the Russian River right on US 1. I booked the Tree House, their smallest cabin for 2. It was perfect, a large cabin like setting. It was actually 4 rooms all rolled into 1 large 1. A small sitting area, a small kitchen, a small shower & private toilet & another sitting area with a gas fireplace. A small deck with chairs completed the cabin. Service from the ladies at the front office was great, they were so friendly & helpful. Because of the COVID issues their restaurant was closed & breakfast was a grab & go bag with yogurt, packaged muffin & fruit. Perfect location across from the River where you could & we did rent Kayaks. I spent 2 nights there & can't wait to return. Forgot to mention that the kitchen had a coffee maker, sink, microwave & some service items...

I am looking forward to returning to the Jenner Inn later this month. Our last stay was in the Pomo bungalow which we LOVED. I was sad to learn they no longer accept small dogs in that particular room. It has a huge table great for puzzling while drinking wine and watching the ocean. It had a great deck for enjoying the small yard and was nice to sit out there with our tiny dog safely. The kitchen was lovely and huge and well equipped and the place had TWO bathrooms!! We don't even have two bathrooms at home so that was a treat.
The breakfast was awesome, ample and leftovers were nice to take hiking later in the day.
We have two upcoming reservations for two other rooms. We were trying to gauge the table size in the pictures for puzzling while we enjoy water views with our dog and a good glass of wine. We can't afford to own a whole coastal cabin or a sea ranch timeshare, but we can afford a few visits to the Jenner Inn each year which is a wonderful second option.

There are a variety of accommodations at the Inn in various houses. I would stay here again and probably try out another one. I like many things about our room, but it was a little dated and funky, and the walls were thin (neighbors). Read "charming." That being said, there were many things I liked about it. It was right on the water, with a roomy deck, that we couldn't use much because of the rain, but great for sitting at the window and watching the river go by, seals and sea lions, cormorants, ducks, and herons, etc. Our greatest joy was watching the hummingbirds displaying, feeding right outside our sitting area. I would recommend this place to all but my friends who insist on luxury. It is very old time California, and that is worth a lot to me.

We had driven up from SFO airport after a transatlantic flight so it was great to arrive at the Jenner Inn and be made very welcome.
The Inn is ideally situated on the Highway1. Our room was very comfortable and we enjoyed a very nice breakfast in the morning.

Our rooms do not have air conditioning, the cool coastal air is sufficient to cool our rooms. Our day time temperatures during the summer do not normal rise above the mid 70's.
