We were looking for somewhere to stay en route from Erawan NP and the Burmese border and had all but given up finding somewhere when the locals near the Tha Tung Na dam pointed us in the direction of The River Kwai Park and Resort, about 8.5km to the north. After a long drive I was hoping for somewhere decent. We arrived in the dark and turned into a tarmac track after driving past it the first time. It is not easy to find. The long track took us to a big central building that had the reception, a restaurant and a conference room which was full of Thais from Bangkok on a meeting. Check-in was smooth and efficient and the staff friendly and helpful, although they spoke little English. We were shown two rooms and chose the slightly more expensive 'Lake View' room at 1200B because the views looked great, even at night.

The room was clean, the aircon quiet, the pillows comfortable and the bathroom clean and roomy, if a little unusual in that the floors and walls were hardwood with spaces in the floor between the boards. However the expected ant nuisance never materialised. We ate in the restaurant and the food was fine and the beer cold. It was so quiet and we got a good night's sleep.

Next day we visited the giant Si Nakharinda hydro dam and did some birding at the Tha Tung Na dam before returning to the resort. We were the only ones staying and irritatingly the cook had gone home at around 6pm presumably because there wasn't enough custom. We had to go into the nearby village and ate some very average fish and the chicken speciality which was a whole chicken cut up into bits and too much too eat. It filled a gap. Back at our room we watched TV as an almighty thunderstorm crashed around the valley.

Breakfast was supposedly in with the room price but both days of our stay we were charged for an American breakfast, which wasn't brilliant with 'plastic' sausages and ham. Apparently the only free food included was a cold rice soup that didn't thrill me at breakfast time. I had a walk around the grounds. The resort is a large area with one main road through it and lots of paths to the rooms. It's a beautiful place to stay on the banks of the River Kwai, with trees, mountains and wildlife. I'm not sure but there may even have been a golf course.

To sum up. This is a Thai resort that isn't set up to cater for westerners. However, if you ignore the poor breakfast, the rooms are reasonably priced and of a good standard, and importantly, clean and comfortable. Each Lake View room has a veranda over looking a lake. It situation makes it ideal for basing yourself whilst sightseeing in the general area. It looks a little dated in places but I'd stay again without hesitation.

I'm Thai. Last Makabucha holliday, we decided to leave crowded shopping mall in BKK to somewhere not far. We drove 2-3 hours to this resort, which we had found by chance after searching some. We tried to find rafting resort where we can sleep next to the river on the (stable) raft house. After searching, some were fully booked, some had no electricity-they use candle light. So, we ended up with this one.

We booked lake view 1, it's twin bed room costing 1500THB/ room/night. We stayed there for 2 night during which we enjoyed many activities the resort and Kanchanaburi have to offer.

Location: not far to driving up to Erawan waterfall, and Sri Nakarin dam.

Breakfast: included in the 1500THB. Boiled rice and small american breakfast.

Wifi: no wifi at room, but it's good that we can slower our life.

Activities: Bicycling around the resort, seeing organic farms, and most importantly they have a raft station where you can enjoy sunset-or rise, sit down and freeze the moment by Kwai river surrouded by mountain...

It's a wonderful moment.

Hope I would provide some useful information, more or less.

If you are looking for a quiet and serene place in Kanchanaburi area - this resort is the place for you.
Located 30 min. drive from Kanchanaburi city, and 15 min. drive from Erawan national park, along the river, with beautiful rooms and quiet environment.
You could spend some time just wandering around the beautiful resort, which has animals around, the river, the pool...
The staff was very kind, although we had hard time communicating, since they didn't speak English. You should take this into consideration, and have a lot of patience.
The rooms were beautiful. Hot water, air conditioner, clean and tidy.

Approximately 20Km before Erawan National Park - this is a gem of a hotel and great base for exploring the attractions around the River Kwai.

I had driven 800Km from Phuket and found this hotel by shear luck (after rejecting the basic river boat rooms I looked at on the river). Had the whole hotel to myself! While this was great for me - less so for the hotel and they really do deserve better patronage.

The property in vast and borders the River Kwai in a stunning location - they run and ecologically friendly farm/park and appear to have educational facilities.

One night sadly was not enough and wish I could have stayed longer. The lakeside chalet room was simply gorgeous with ducks, wild birds and even buffalo (kwai).

I'd suggest this is probably best suited for those with their own transport.

The restaurant was reasonable for Thai food and a very good breakfast included in the room rate. Staff were friendly but limited English spoken - be nice/patient with them!!

NB Trip Advisor should list this as River Kwai Park & Resort (and not Riverkwai Park & Resort) as would be easier for users to look up the correct name.

Location is fantastic, among nature. The problem was that the staff didn't speak English, so we had some communication problems. First of all I tried to call them to pick us up on the main road where the bus left us. But they didn't understand so we had to walk with our luggage for 10 minutes on a non-paved street. The day after we were headed to Erawan National Park (approx 15 kms from the resort), we asked for a taxi and without any possibility to discuss the price we were brought there by this woman of the resort (I imagine - as she did not speak English) and had to pay 500 baht (definitely high price for Thailand). It's a pity because it could really be a nice place to stay!

we stayed two nights at the riverkwai park and resort, because it is located close to the erawan national park, which was the reason to visit this province. the area of the resort is very wide and at the reception are bikes available for the guests...but it seems that we were the only ones. a friendly thai lady from the staff ...she spoke nearly no english...brought us to our booked lakeview bungalow. the house was guilt with natural stones from the near river kwai and was located directly beside a big lake in which a lot of big lotusplants growing, but the blooming season was over during the time we stayed there. the room itself was big, nce furnished with a big kingsize bed and moskito net. the panorama windows to the balcony offered a very nice view over the terrace and the lake. the balcony was big and comfortable wooden terracechairs were available. bathroom was big also...nice decorated with natural stones also...walk-in shower and nice bathroom furniture in european standard. all together a very nice place to stay for a few nights.
near the restaurant and the reception a big swimmingpool is located ...very nice surrounded from big trees and blooming bushes, but the condition is not realy good...a renovation and a ground cleaning would be very sensefull. also no guest was arround and when i tried to get in contact with the staff nearly no one spoke english. because the resort is far from a village we went to the restaurant in the evening...the first day we saw one more couple...the second evening we were alone.
the food was okay, but no highlight.
the breakfast, which was included, was also not very various...one egg...two taosts...butter...jam...a sussage...one cup of instant coffee paired with a small glass of instant juice.
further the mainbuilding which includes the resaurant and the reception and lobby and also the whole pool area need a renovation and cleaning very urgent. the bungalow we had was absolutely okay and we felt very comfortable there. this resort could be a very nice place...if everything is on the right condition.

We booked 3 bungalow for 1 night.
Good welcome, very nice surroundings, easy to find.
Old and poorly maintained rooms. The electric water heater in my room was scary as the wires were connected with duct tape....I decided for the outdoor shower instead.
Restaurant is average, dinner was ok, breakfast really poor.
Price quite ok.
Recommended for a short stay on a budget.

Four of us stayed in two bungalows in August. This was a last minute booking, as the first one that we went to was atrocious. The staff were very friendly. We explored and went to the raft on the River Kwai, where we met a Thai family and were offered food and drink. We love Thai people! Eventually we went to relax in our room. The only negative thing we would note is that there is no indoor shower. With mosquitoes and privacy, we would have much preferred an indoor shower. It is "private" and there is a large bathrub with a shower had attachment inside. We swam in the pool, had dinner at the restaurant, and played some table tennis. The food at the restaurant was okay. The hotel staff drove us to the entrance on their golf cart the next morning and we took the city bus to Erawan. It was timely and really cheap. We had smoothies across the street at one of the Muslim restaurants while we waited. When we returned, we had dinner at the same restaurant where we'd had smoothies. We had lamb kebabs and rotis. This was some of the best food that we have had in Thailand in the 6. months we've lived here. It was incredible!!! We would recommend this resort for budget travellers, but recommend that you rent a motorbike in Kanchanaburi first so that you're not limited in what you can explore while you're staying in this beautiful area.

Very nice calm place in the middle of nature, close to National Park. Great for relaxation. Services in the resort are good, rooms are clean, but don’t expect anything luxury, wifi only in the central building. Staff is helpful and we really enjoyed our time in Riverkwai Park & Resort.
