The hotel is right on 101 South (one way, two lanes in this stretch). When I came into the lobby (tiny) I got a very strong smell of curry. The front desk was completely glassed in with tiny slots to hand the paper work through. I had asked for a room away from the main road, but we got a room on the second floor right on the road (maybe it was due to a language barrier).
Room 267 had a good bed and bedding and a good A/C and was overall clean.. When we came in there was a half full soda can on the fridge.... The bathroom fan comes on with the light and is very loud; if you are taller than 5'3" you will have to duck in the shower, since the shower head is so low.
"Breakfast" was the biggest joke; a paper bag with a tortilla and some unidentifiable eggs? No heating instructions; a little thing of ketch-up (not even hot sauce), a granola bar and a bottle of water.....of course, we were still charged full price.
I think there was an elevator, but to get to our side of the hotel it would have still involved carrying our luggage over some steps, so we decided to just walk up the one flight. I also saw a couple of charging stations for EVs.

Our room was clean and had the necessities. It, like many hotels these days, makes one wonder if the people who run it ever stay in the rooms
For a night or two. It s the little things that don’t work right.
One thing they got right was keeping the sink separate from the toilet and shower area. Now if we could get hotel room designers to put the toilet by itself.
But little things that probably are not expensive to fix marred the experience.
For example the main room right would go on and off for no apparent reason, we just kept it off. But, the room was then on the dim side since the lamp bulbs were not very bright. . The coffee maker was inside of a cubby hole on a piece of furniture. Filling it was a chore inside the cubby hole. Not enough room and the black coffee maker in the dark cubby hole was hard to see to fill. Also it was a paper cone machine that worked poorly with the packets the hotel provided.
Two of four lights in the bathroom were out.
The grab and go breakfast was a thawed omelet in a tortilla, a granola bar, a ketchup packet and a water bottle. Coffee was in the lobby in the morning only. No milk or juice for the kids. We microwaved the omelet in our room. We generally stopped for breakfast at a cafe late in the morning and skipped lunch.

Location was great for exploring the cute old town/downtown area. The room was comfortable, but a little rough around the edges. For the price, I would have expected more. Free breakfast was offered, wasn't anything special, but when breakfast is included, that is always a good thing in my opinion. Staff at check in was a little gruff. But the woman in the morning when checking out was very sweet and kind.

The room décor was very nice and modern. The furniture was obviously new. The bed was excellent and the room was clean. The room had a microwave, refrigerator and television but I did not use any of these appliances (not even the TV).
The big problem here is that motel is right on Fourth Street (US Highway 101) and when I say "right on" I mean there is only a sidewalk and a parkway strip between it and the highway. I asked for a quiet room but got a room twenty feet from the sidewalk and it was noisy all night long.
The Choice Hotels website declared that the motel had a "hot breakfast" but when I checked in I was told, due to COVID, there was no breakfast at all. I think that this is deceptive and I don’t know who to blame. If this motel has not offered breakfast for a year why is the Choice Hotels website still stating that there is a "hot breakfast"? I value a "hot breakfast" at about $8 or so, so I was willing to pay more for this motel but I think I was deceived.

During check-in I was charged an extra fee for each day and the man at the desk said it wasn't included in my prepaid fees but I was never told about them. I was also promised a quiet room during a call to the hotel before arriving and got the room closest to the noisy highway 101. The free breakfast turned out to be a small tortilla wrapped around some kind of egg in a plastic bag with no instructions, a water bottle and a tiny snack bar. I heated the tortilla and took one bite and threw it away. We didn't pick up breakfast the 2nd day. We had to purchase breakfast both days again increasing the cost of our stay. The area around the hotel has people making noise (singing and making music) outside our room late at night during the middle of the week. The bed was too hard and so we didn't sleep well. The man at the desk tried to explain things by saying all hotels have to do these things in this city but I called another similar hotel and got a different story. I complained to Priceline who I booked the hotel with but got no help so I learned a lesson and won't use them anymore either. We traveled 2 weeks around California and this was our last hotel. It was the worst experience that I can recall during many years of road trip travel. I realize that COVID adds some constraints but I have traveled for a total of 40 nights in the last 4 months during road trips and no hotel was this bad.

I booked never having visited Eureka before and based on location specs on the Bayside site , figured it was safe to walk to restaurants etc from the hotel. I felt uncomfortable upon arrival . The reservation associate suggested not walking about, plus another guest in the lobby made a threatening comment to my daughter that made me not want to stay there or leave my car in the parking lot. I would have also been worried that this person would do something to my car during the night, as he knew what car I arrived in, and was present while I checked in. I knew my room fee would likely not be refunded because I booked on hotels.com, but on top of all this, the check-in associate added on the fee for my pets and REFUSED to refund the fee for my 2 dogs!! I never even entered the room. We took a short drive around town and came back and gave the key UNUSED to the front desk. There were transients, people apparently under influence of drugs, and panhandlers within 3 blocks of the property. I can understand it was my fault for making the poor choice to stay here, but to take my extra $50.00 was robbery!

An absolutely terrible bait and switch experience. Arriving at the "non-smoking" property, I entered a dingy office that reeked of cigarette smoke. The desk manager was arguing with a gentleman who was trying to check in. Apparently, there were fees that were not clearly disclosed on a mobile booking app. He was willing to pay anyway and was polite but irritated. The desk manager was obnoxious and eventually he refused service and made the man leave. I found the same issue with added fees that were not disclosed when I called to book. No breakfast served, although advertised and no reduction of charges. The parking was dismal and we were squeezed into our disabled space by a car parked in the access area next to us. Many guests had to park on the street or double park in the lot, blocking other cars. The dumpsters and garbage cans were overflowing and vile liquid drained across the parking lot.
The room had been cleaned but residual smoking smell remained in the grubby stained furniture and drapes. We were escaping smoke from wildfires but ended up with an asthma attack from the room. The towels smelled so bad we didn't even shower.
Being on the corner of the highway and another street, road noise and people yelling outside on the sidewalk was disruptive.
There's no excuse for rudeness and dishonesty in the hospitality business.

I would not stay at this hotel again. It is an old hotel on a very busy street. I asked for a quite room and they gave me one facing the busy street. A lot of homeless folks walking around. I had to sign multiple paper work stating I would pay for any damages. Also made a copy of my drivers license. They advertise breakfast but have NO BREAKFAST at all. They state it is count policy but their sister hotels Comfort and Clarion offer a breakfast. This hotel is over priced for the quality. Stains on carpet and furniture was well used. They will charge you $5 for not returning the plastic keys. AC quit working in middle of night.

We called last minute in the middle of a winter storm. The front desk guy was so good natured and helpful. Had a great clean room with a sitting area, bar fridge, coffee maker, microwave. Nice cotton sheets. Able to have our granola and blueberry breakfast in the room. Coin operated washer/dryer close by, Tesla destination chargers, and a very well maintained pool and hot tub. We'll be back to spend a few days checking out Eureka and area.

I got there after dark and the first room I was given was upstairs and they don't have an elevator so I asked for a ground level room. The desk clerk was very nice about switching my room at no extra expense but the first room I was assigned was rather isolated and I wasn't comfortable with that. The desk clerk kindly switched my room again to a better room on the ground level at no extra charge. I really appreciated their willingness to get me a room that I was comfortable in at no extra charge.
