A mixed bag. Huge room. Reasonably priced. Below standard of British Travelodge - peeling wallpaper, loose bathroom floor tiles. Only coffee making facilities, rather than tea, but there is a microwave and a (very frozen) fridge. Large wall TV. Conveniently placed for bus routes to Venice Beach, Santa Monica etc. We were on the upper floor, and had had a lot of rain.... I kept wondering why my socks kept getting wet, eventually realising that water was seaping up between the joints in what looked like perfect laminate flooring. Ask at reception for the $10 voucher to use at the Metro Cafe next door. I had read about it on our last day, but it wasn't offered to us.
While the flat screen was large and had cable, I was not able to connect to the hotel wi-fi to access Prime, Youtube, Netflix, etc. I tried multiple times. I was able to connect on my laptop but the speed was very slow. Hope they upgrade in the future.
Overall the experience of staying was nice, but it’s difficult to change the booking once confirmed. I had to add a new booking to extend, and I didn’t know that the room package was different from original one, so I had to pay more. They didn’t tell me beforehand. They told me right before the checkout and I was already at business Mehong.
At this price point, the wifi should work. It didn't in late 2022, so cannot recommend. In several previous stays, the quite large and generally clean rooms counterbalanced ever aging furnishings, thin blankets and towels, weak water pressure in the shower, thin walls, noisy HVAC, and stomping neighbors. No wifi = won't stay again.
For the LA area, this Travelodge provides great value. It's only a 15-minute drive from LAX; so it's perfect for a stopover before an early-morning flight. It's an outdoor motel, but there is an elevator. I had a room on the 2nd floor, above the Metro Cafe (which closes at 9pm; so there is no issue with late-night noise). The room is huge. The front area had room for a large L-shaped sofa, which could easily turn into a bed for an extra guest, and a large rolling square ottoman where you can set down food (think pizza box). There was no table to set your drink down on. The bed was a King with very white and good-quality sheets. As other reviewers noted, the mattress caved in towards the center; it's comfortable but probably terrible for one's back. My solution was to sleep perpendicular to normal, with my head and feet at the sides of the mattress. Then there was no trouble at all. The TV facing the bed is huge... maybe 60 inch? I had two bar fridges - one was much colder than the other - and a microwave. This was great because I mostly ordered in food and could store and reheat the leftovers. There was a small coffee maker. The ice maker and a well-priced vending machine are on the same floor, but around the corner. There was a room safe which I always appreciate, and 1 luggage rack. The bathroom has an enclosed shower and toilet, and an open vanity area with lots of counter space. The shower is large and has a nice sliding glass door. The water pressure was quite low at every time of day, but the water temperature was good. Towels are clean and soft, but not luxury. The vanity are is well-lit and well-stocked with amenities. The hair dryer works well. Housekeeping supplies lots of disposable glasses, coffee, soap, etc. The TV has a wide range of cable stations but not premium (no HBO Max etc.) Picture and sound are great, but I couldn't find a sleep timer. There's a clock radio in the room. I asked Front Desk to do wake-up calls on 3 days - they got 2 out of 3 right. On one of the days, they were an hour late - no worries, as these calls were just back-ups to my phone alarm. I thought the room was cleaned very well. I'd read complaints about dirty floors, but mine was very clean - no dust or stickiness. The bathroom was cleaned very well. And all the sheets and towels were bright white, very clean, and in good condition. Here's the issue that most reviewers seem to harp on. It's a value hotel, and yes, it shows a little wear, but nothing that impedes function. For example, the vinyl office chair has cracks in the vinyl that has started to peel off, but it works fine. One of the light fixtures must have had a crack or loose connections, because it was wrapped in industrial tape. An outlet placed near ceiling level was duct-taped shut. The front door could use a good pass with a Magic Eraser to remove scuffs and fingerprints. Some of the crevices in the glass shower door frame were covered in lime-scale. I liken it to staying at a friend's apartment more than a luxury hotel. For me, none of these are dealbreakers, because the place is so clean and bug-free. I don't know LA that well, but I think the hotel may not be in a great area. For one, it is right next to the freeway; so morning rush hour traffic can wake you up. There were also quite a few loud motorcycles and police sirens, but that's LA in general, I suppose. The hotel is not noisy, but you can hear when upstairs guests come home at 3am. And the bathroom fans and A/C do work quite noisily - but effectively. I do recommend sleeping with earplugs on. The Metro Cafe downstairs is fantastic for a fancy breakfast, and there is an "Extra Miles" convenience store across the street for snacks and beverages. Also nearby are Tito's Tacos and Copenhagen Pastry. Getting to downtown Culver City is easy until about 7pm; just take Bus #1 which runs on time almost always and only costs a dollar. There is a parking lot for guests. The wifi in the room worked well. On my Android phone, I occasionally had to restart my phone to access the wifi. The wifi extended to the Metro Cafe and front curb; so I could use it for Uber, etc. The Front Desk is friendly. One manager ran up coffee when I said I had run out. They had good advice about local attractions and airport delays. All in all, this Travelodge is perfect for value-oriented guests who don't plan to spend too much time in the room, but would like to save a little money by using the fridge and microwave. A fussy person might freak out at the duct tape on a light fixture, but if you can live with that, you can save a lot of phone and have a nice stay. …
A simple place that is 20-30 minute drive from airport, Venice beach, Santa Monica pier, and downtown LA. I booked primarily for the centrality of it. King bed room was huge and had lots of space. Some minor cosmetic things that could have been upgraded but again, you book this place for location not for quality of hotel. Would definitely come again. Great food in the area: breakfast, BBQ, etc. The only minor disturbance was that construction is taking place across the street (back side of hotel) which caused me to wake up but it's not the hotels fault.
Great location, plenty to do. Taco place across the street was amazing. Room big , internet sucked. Good base for getting around L/A. Came across Sony studios by chance went on a two hour tour. Was so amazing 🤩 saw The Goldbergs set then visited the house
Lots of repairs needed. Rooms not clean. Internet didn’t work. But the location! Very convenient. Free parking, & the breakfast (be sure to ask about the Metro Cafe $10 voucher with the front desk) was excellent.
This was the worst hotel room I have ever stayed in. Some of the issues were the door and walls were dirty, the alarm clock and microwave were broken, the water in the shower was either cold or had to just keep spinning the handle until it shut off and the porcelain in the sink and on the bathtub were all chipped away. The Wi-Fi was awful as well. This hotel needs a complete rehab.
The room is big and clean. However the light near the tv is busted, phone is not working, and wifi is too slow and most of the time we are not able to use it. We told the receptionist but unfortunately we have to be in the room. As we want to spend our days outside to get all the tourist places we don’t have time to wait and stay while the issues are being fixed. We were hoping that before a guest checked in the room, everything are well checked and fixed.
