Within minutes of Carmel and Ocean Avenue, Bixby Bridge, and 17 mile drive at Pebble Beach, the location of the Hyatt Carmel Highlands is ideal for a vacation and getaway along the PCH. The hotel is pretty dated in terms of the exterior. However the interior is much better updated but still a little dated. We had an Oceanview Townhouse spa suite, which was two stories. Top story (entry) had the kitchen, living room with sofa bed, and full bathroom. Bottom floor had the king bed and master bathroom. During covid, the fitness center was closed but poll was open. Restaurant was also closed during our visit. Parking was pretty limited but hotel staff assisted with carrying your luggage up the hills on golf carts. Overall for the price/points redemption, the value is not as great considering the same amount of points can get you a really nice hotel at possibly a Grand Hyatt or so in a major city. But the location is very ideal and views are amazing which is why I gave it a 3 star review.

The good: * amazing views from the property * (3) fireplaces in my suite * nice on property amenities * responsive front desk which even provided a number you could text requests to them on * I stayed in the "Point Lobos Suite" which is room 102 in the main building The bad: * room was very worn out and in need of refurbishment (tub literally had the bottom of it coming out from wear and tear, but as I like showers, this didn't mater to me)

We stayed here for a night, the room was old and the jacuzzi was so loud that as soon as we used it, the reception called us with noise complaints from neighbors- if it’s so loud that it cannot be used, there is no point in having it in there. There was no service due to COVID , we only asked for drinking water and they delivered us an open half empty used bottle of water. The bed had bed bugs - all of us came away with any red welts on our skin. To top it all , it was extremely over priced for this terrible experience

Hotel is old and our room at least needs updating. Bathroom in particular was not up to modern Hyatt standards. Other problems included the phone not working and the mini refrigerator in poor operation. Also one morning we had to kill a group of ants running around in the bathtub. On the positive side, the ocean view was unbelievable! Unfortunately the top rated restaurant was closed because of COVID restrictions, otherwise it may have improved our outlook. Also we would give high marks to the staff!

I read very mixed reviews of the hotel during Covid and was questioning if we should stay - we had an amazing trip and I was glad we chose this hotel. Staff: The hotel staff was extremely friendly and nice. They helped with our bags, always answered the phone, brought housekeeping items very quickly. Check in was fast and easy. Food: There is no food on property which worried me, however DoorDash runs efficiently. We got dinner from amazing local restaurants very quickly. Coffee came from Carmel/Monterey to our room door in under 20 minutes every morning (and honestly way cheaper than room service!) Room: We were in an oceanfront king - 544 - it’s right off of the pool. The balcony was giant and you can not get a better view than those rooms!! The view is 5 star however the bathroom is probably a 3 star. Not renovated, small shower and not a tub you’d want to relax in. Clean, but very dated - we considered moving to an upgraded suite but we just couldn’t leave the view, so you sacrifice a nice bathroom for a wonderful balcony and view. Also being located right off the pool, we didn’t have an issue bc it was cold but I could see in warmer months pool noise being a problem in that particular room. Fireplace is awesome. Location: Perfectly situated between Carmel and Big Sur. 10 minutes to Carmel by the Sea, 15 minutes to Carmel Valley Ranch, 20 minutes to Nepenthe/Big Sur. Awesome location. Best views of the coastline.
