There have been some improvements since last year. This time our room had a screen on the sliding glass door, thus preventing insects from entering. Also, this time it seems the Covid restrictions have been relaxed because there was breakfast (cereal, fruit, yogurt, waffles, toast, no eggs or other protein). There was instant oatmeal but only the sugary flavors were on offer. The bathtub has some sort of no slip treatment. Again, the room was clean and comfortable, the service was good. We plan to return.
Stayed 1 night during road trip. Rooms were comfy and clean. Was in room 104, ground floor close to the vending machines. No issues. Slept well. A/c worked great and staff was friendly. For the price and quality it was comfortable for what it was. Had a car and drove around rather than walked but everything was so closeby. The beach, Trader Joe’s and target were all 5 min. away and 20 min. from nearby redwood park. Would recommend. Breakfast was very bare but had the Activia yogurt and some packaged baked goods.
The property has many plants and flowers, so it's quite pleasant and we'd definitely stay again. It is set away from the street and is therefore quiet and peaceful. The second floor room was comfortable, clean, had a mini-fridge, microwave, bathtub. All second floor rooms have a balcony. Be aware that there is no elevator. Unfortunately, there is only a sliding glass door leading to the balcony, and no screen; this means the only way to get fresh air is to open the glass door and there is no way to prevent insects from entering. The property is definitely more than a 10-minute walk from the beach. The rate was about $300, so the room safe fee seriously feels like nickel-and-diming. Also, I realize they have grab-and-go breakfasts because of Covid, but they should offer something hot such as instant oatmeal. The staff was very polite and friendly. The highly recommended and popular-with-locals Gayle's Bakery & Rosticceria is within walking distance. You can get pastries, lunch & dinner dishes such as poached salmon, spaghetti, chicken salad sandwiches, soup, salad, etc.…
The "10 min" walk to beach may be correct as it is mostly downhill; however, the walk back took us over 25 minutes uphill most of the way! There is a $1.50 per day charge for use,of the in room safe!! This is buried in the certifications about no smoking in the room and no pets!! the fee can be reversed if requested at checkout if you see it among the other fees and taxes. Our rate was $339.00 over a 4th of July weekend, but the additional $1.50 fee is baffling with those room rates!! The rooms were acceptable and clean. Only one set of large bath towels per guest.
The first room we got was right next to the laundry room and the workers were doing mounds of laundry (it was piled outside on tables and chairs) and the noisy machines were going non-stop. We requested a different room which was very dingy. The people in the next room were very loud. The sliding door to the tiny patio had no screen so we couldn't leave it open and the road noise was constant. The tv remote didn't work. the water was terrible tasting, and there were ants in the bathroom. There was an unpleasant odor in the room.
Clean rooms. Comfortable bed. Small balcony with broken chair. Quiet location away from the crowded Capitola beach area however our busy neighbors upstairs sadly stayed 2 nights. Our trip was spontaneous which means we were happy to find a vacancy during Watsonville car race weekend. Breakfast was bagged muffins and Peets coffee with flavored creamer. Little Tampico Mexican restaurant is 2 minutes away and offered indoor dining and food arrived quick to our table. Overall, we would stay again.
We choose to stay at Quality Inn & Suites in Capitola because of the value pricing and high reviews. We were, however, worried about traveling during the pandemic. We were put at ease the moment we arrived. Mr. Ank Patel, the hotel manager, made sure our room was properly sanitized and clean. He was very accommodating to my requests and the housekeeping and hotel staff were very friendly. We had a room with two queen beds and a balcony. The room was spacious for the three of us and we liked that it had a microwave and refrigerator. Even thought the hotel is located near the freeway, it was very quiet at night. Beds were very comfortable too! We brought our bikes and had fun riding them to Capitola village, which is very close. We will definitely come back again next year!…
Stay was ok. Not what I expected, though, from the online descriptions. Name of hotel is Quality Inn & Suites Capitola By The Sea. Well, this hotel is NOT by the sea, even though it's implied in the name. It is actually about 1 mile inland. There is no elevator, so if you like to stay on the top (2nd) floor, you must carry your luggage up the stairs -- and back down again. Breakfast was closed due to CV19. Building is on the older side, but our room had been decently remodeled. Staff was nice and helpful.
I stayed at this property for business and it was a great location being close to freeway but also only minutes to the beach area. Very quiet and great breakfast choices, hot coffee, juices and very well maintained throughout breakfast hours!
Room was clean, and staff and service were fine. However, room was listed as handicap accessible, and it does not meet ADA standards. There are no handrails for the toilet, and no roll-in shower. The tub is positioned so that it was impossible for a caregiver to assist the handicapped person into the tub, if she could have stepped over the 12 to 14 inch edge, which she could not. Heater controls are behind a chair and not accessible to the handicapped person. When the problem was brought to the attention of the front desk, the attendant said the owner was aware of the problem, and was planning to make some modifications. We were given a partial refund, but that doesn't fix the problem for our stay or for handicapped guests in the future.
