We just returned from a 3 night stay on site 21. It was a last minute reservation because the Big Sur reservations we had were cancelled due to the wildfire situation. Just to be clear, this is a review of the tent cabin campground not the state park. The state park is a gem! It's absolutely gorgeous and dense with redwoods. The tent cabins were not so great. Because we were at the mercy of what was available, we snagged a tent cabin for those three nights. At $85 per night, I feel we overpaid for what we got. There were large holes in the wood which invited some kind of insect that went to town on my legs and arms. This is not my first time camping. I am aware of the big situation and I am fine with it. However, I did expect that the cabins would provide a little more

We were only there for a wedding but the area was beautiful, the seating was great and the food excellent. There was a problem of parking and had a 1/4 mile walk from were I found a place to park. The did have a 8 person tram but never used it for the guests to the wedding and thought that was n very poor taste.

The tent cabins were perfect. We stayed there for the weekend with our kids and friends. It can be a little loud at night. It's great to go with other families. Bring mosquito repellent!!! Can't stress that enough! We stayed in one of the Deluxe Cabin's. They were nice but we probably wouldn't stay in one again because we didn't use the extra blankets, soap or bath towels.

I went on camping trip with my parents and my two children. We were all really excited to go thinking it would be big and spacious. When we got there we were so disappointed. It was raining a lot and the floors were wet. My parents told me that the tent was meant for 5-8 people. THAT'S A LIE!!! Since we were so excited we tried to make the best of it but you just can't. I mean seriously?! They included a gas lamp but we didn't use it because there wasn't enough ventilation. I mean you could use it if you wanted to commit suicide. You might as well call it a suicide cabin. We only had one light and we were thinking of playing games but you just cant do that. I wasn't surprised they didn't put pictures. Big Basin is beautiful and the tent cabins just ruined the experience. Who

Response from Hollie P, Public Relations Manager at Big Basin Tent Cabins
Responded 15 Jan 2016
Dear Claudia, We appreciate you taking the time to write a review of your experience at Big Basin Tent Cabins however we are so sorry that the cabins fell below your expectations. The tent cabins sleep four (2 on each platform bed) but the campsite can accommodate up to 8 people, meaning tents can be set up in the campsite for additional guests. We reviewed our reservations website (Reserve America) and have revised the copy of the website so that it's clearer to our guests. We apologize for the confusion this caused for your group. In addition, we have been operating Big Basin Tent Cabins for over 30 years and we've never had an incident with the lanterns. They are perfectly safe to use inside the cabin, each cabin has its own CO2 detector and there is ample ventilation with screens around the cabin. We are monitored by the STATE of California and I can personally assure you that we would not allow anything inside the cabin that would cause harm to our guests. Having said that our guest's satisfaction is very important to us and we strive to exceed your expectations. We fell short and we'd like to make it right. I'd like to discuss this further with you. Would you please contact me directly? 925-462-1400 | M - F | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. And again, we are sorry that your camping experience did not go as planned. I hope to hear back from you soon. All the best to you and yours, Hollie R. Potts

The tent cabins are very basic and rustic, but I liked it. It was private inside and nice to be out of the elements. Fairly clean and beds were not bad. The wood burning stove is rustic, but it is a work horse. It is very efficient and works very well. It kept the cabin nice and warm and completely smoke free. I was very impressed with our wood stove. The grounds are beautiful. The bathroom and showers were private. Bring quarters for showers. Very very dark inside, even with the tarps rolled up. Bring plenty of bright light or it will be a struggle to get anything done while inside. We stayed in number 8. The drawback to that cabin is the location of the front platform. It was a little high off the ground. It needs a step. Even my tall partner had trouble getting up and down.

We've stayed at the Costanoa tent cabins near Pescadero, so we thought we'd give Big Basin a try. Since the Redwood forests between the two camps are nearly contiguous, we were looking forward to seeing the forest at a different angle, if you will... Since we booked on the weekend, we weren't expecting serenity. However, the tent cabins are semi secluded, which was really nice. Our cabin (#41) was surrounded by loose hedges, and I could barely see the neighboring cabin. Pretty sweet! I did take a gander at the other sites, and many of them seemed semi secluded to a certain point as well. Our cabin was also nearest to the bathroom. Normally I don't like to be the closest to the facilities (smells wafting and people congregating), but again, there were hedges and plenty of

The tent cabins were great. I would recommend a few things before you go. 1) Bring an air mattress because the mats are not very comfortable. 2) Bring quarters because the showers only accept quarters ($1.25 for a 5 minute shower) 3) Bring lots of lights- the cabins are pretty dark- even in the middle of the day. 4) Bring a battery powered fan if you tend to run a little hot as the cabins do warm up a bit. and finally the most important thing I wished I would of known- Leave your dog at home! My family and I brought our Rottweiler with us knowing that we couldn't bring her on the trails- no big deal- we would leave her in the cabin- WRONG!! You are not allowed to do this either! So basically- you have 2 options- a) leave them at the campsite outside by themselves b) leave

Ok so we were nuts to plan a three week road trip on the coast of California but with paternity and maternity time off we couldn't resist not camping with the time off. We had stayed in our lovely tent in Big Sur but it was tough going. When we arrived at Big Basin we were really excited to be off the ground for a few nights. The tent cabins were outstanding. Warm, clean and all tucked around beautiful redwoods. Over the four days we were there we stayed in two different cabins. - good tip- they will be booked out but they hold a good handful of them for walk-ins and the pricing is well worth it. BE CAREFUL OF RACOONS. No joke they come around in packs right after dusk to see what's for dinner. We were visited by them every night there. All in al a beautiful stay, a

We have been camping here for almost 30 years and always come over July 4th to escape the fireworks because they frighten our dog. We've camped in the pouring down rain and the best of weather and its always amazing. The tent cabins are wonderful and very spacious. The beds are so comfortable now that the new mattresses are in...thanks, we appreciate that! ; ) We always reserve the same cabin, I won't say which one because its the best and its our secret! I will say that all of the sites are pretty much amazing. Some of our favorites are 21, 28, 30 and 37. All for different reasons. However, our family joined us this year and they stayed in 14 and LOVED it so as I said, they're all pretty amazing. Some people say the price is high but you're definitely paying for a nicer and WAY

FIRST! With the tents you have to check in at the gift shop with is located across from the normal check-in office. Do yourself a very big favor, don't do a weekend, you won't get the full effect of the solitude that awaits you. Arrive on a Sunday and leave on a Thursday. Four of us used this as our resting station since we hiked back the Skyline to the Sea trail for 2 days out of the 5 we were there. You have the ability to putting your own padlock on the cabins if you worry about security. They are very clean, provide a broom and ample space, beds are actually quite comfortable and there is room available for an additional tent outside at most spots. Repellant is a must!! I scoped out all the spots and I would have to say that 21 and 33 in my humble opinion are the best. You
