Our stay at the Pelican 1 cottage was both charming and relaxing! We loved our cottage that was next to the bay. We could watch the sunset from our Adirondack chairs, while sipping the local Russian River wine. We also ate at the Tides restaurant next door. It's a location with fabulous food and unique Hollywood history. It was where Alfred Hitchcock filmed The Birds in 1962. In fact, the entire bay was used in the filming. All in all, our stay was beautiful. The cottage was quaint and clean...and lovely. We will return, for sure.

This inn sits about a mile south of the center of Bodega Bay (to the extent that it has a center). It is quiet and clean, and the rooms are huge (or at least, our King suite was). The room had a fireplace, complete with one of those easy-to-light artificial logs, which we took advantage of. Standard amenities, including a coffee maker and refrigerator.

We paid, in all, about $300 for a night for ourselves and two very small dogs. This was during Christmas week, so it was waaaaayyy out of season. Still, we'd been driving all day, and weren't inclined to be too picky.

We spent two nights here and were greeted by Nicki the receptionist who made us feel very welcome on arrival. She provided a map and insights into the local restaurants which was most helpful. The hotel is an older beach type facility and the room we occupied was clean and well appointed. It is within walking distance to a couple of restaurants and a general store. The town pretty much rolls up the carpet at 8PM so be prepared for a lot of relaxation.

The room was very pleasant and clean, so no complaints on that front but concerned about a couple of points I've seen others raise about this property.

1. At check in, the lady at reception said she'd upgraded our room at no extra charge. God knows what the original room was like then because the "upgraded" room was tiny. With two suitcases and two overnight bags, we just about managed to squeeze them into the room, without having to clamber over them while going to the bathroom.
2. When we placed the booking, it clearly stated "Free Breakfast" on the paperwork, and I'm guessing I paid for B&B, as this was the most expensive Hotel on our road trip around California, however they don't have any facility for cooked or continental breakfast, other than a cup of coffee from Reception, so I guess it was never going to happen. The lady on reception suggested two places where we could purchase breakfast the following morning but we never took her up on that idea. Other potential guests should be aware, you are booking room only, despite what the details say.

Apart from that the property was OK for a single nights stay, though there's not a lot to do or see in Bodega Bay, so I guess we wont be back.

Where to start. If there was a lower ranking, I would give it to them. These are tiny little motor lodge type rooms. We booked a room for a friend for 6 nights. When we arrived, the Inn put her not in the Inn, but in a dark, funky little duplex down the road. It was dark and scary. At least half the lights were burned out. After one night we brought her to our house. We called that morning to let them know she would be checking out. She and my daughter went in well before check out with my credit card and they told them they would charge us for the 2nd night and refund the rest.. 2 weeks later, no refund. (oh, and their email on their web page isn't really their email) After talking to George at the desk for the past two days, his explanation is that
1) He charged me for 3 nights (not the one she stayed and one unexplained penalty night), even though that is not their stated cancellation policy for the room we reserved. It is not on their web page, their lobby and we were not informed of it.
2) He refunded the other half to my brother, or his friend, or whoever had made the reservation, but had paid not a dime to him. George tells me that it is my problem to recover the money. That it was refunded to the wrong card, and to take it up with whoever made the reservation.

Then, 2 days later, my credit card, which I had not used anywhere else in a week was compromised and had to be cancelled. May just be a coincidence, but the whole thing smells funny.

BTW, the free breakfast is really a pot of coffee in a tiny lobby. Didn't help us, since she wasn't even in the motel.
So, I am out about a thousand and they move on to the next victim.

At first sight the room looked okay for the funky little place it was. The gravel parking lot was uncomfortable as I was on a motorcycle. The door to my room was standing open and I discovered it was difficult to close because the bottom of the door was not able to clear a high spot on the floor. No air conditioning while probably not a problem most of the time was missed on this warm day.
The floor looked okay, but I later discovered my feet and sox were black from the floor apparently mopped with a dirty mop. The worse housekeeping I have encountered.
Add to that they did not have ice and you have less than a happy visitor.
Summing up..... Way over priced. Location marginal. Poor housekeeping. Blinds and no drapes would allow anyone to look into the room at night.
Certainly a never again property for me!

We were impressed with the welcome at the Bodega Harbor Inn and its location. We stayed in their adjacent Harbor House. The house was extremely well furnished in simple beach-house style, had a great view of the harbor and was immaculate. The kitchen seemed to be brand new, with beautiful appliances and every kitchen implement or device one could wish for. And no hidden charges! (If you've searched for a vacation rental you know what I mean...) There were just the two of us, but two couples would be comfortable; plenty of seating and space, as long as you can share a bathroom. We feel so fortunate to have found this place and will definitely be back.

This is a worn down 1star motel at best. Clean paint hides how old and poor shape everything is. Our unit, #1, slanted so badly the French doors don’t close properly and you could fall over if you had been wine tasting. The grout was old and missing in a few spots. The furniture was garage sale left overs. My biggest complaint is the lack of view we had in unit #1 that advertised a “private deck and bay/harbor view”. If you sat at an angle that is true but our view was the neighbor bedroom. The price paid is ridiculous. We have been coming to Bodega Bay over twenty years and have never paid so much for something so bad. We will return to Bodega Bay but not this 1 star motel.

Before going I warned our family that it might be modest accomodations after looking at the web page. They said they are revamping it now.

When we arrived the guy at the desk sent us to Campbell Cove and the Bodega Bay Trailhead. We did not ask for recommendations he just sent us and he was right. The hole at Cambell Cove was interesting but I wouldn't want to miss the Bodega Bay Trailhead. It had fantanstic views and a couple nice easy trails. Don't miss that if you are in the area (even passing through).

When we arrived at the room I could see that room had under gone some good renovations and updates that made it look less dated, more pleasant and mores usable.

I enjoyed mornings drinking my coffee and looking at the view while everyone else was sleeping in.

We stayed in hummingbird 1 which was great for the 3 of us (hubby and adult daughter). We got our space (2 bedrooms) and together time.

Our biggest issue was finding food. We have one vegetarian and one who will not eat any seafood and there were not good food options for us locally. This is particularly true on Monday and Tuesday evenings. There were choices for those happy with seafood.

My husband and I spent one night here with our 2 dogs. Clean, newly redecorated rooms. Comfortable bed and thick towels. Friendly staff. Rooms could use art on the walls and a comfortable chair. Couldn't find a hairdryer. Tile floor was cold but good for dogs. No AC but it was a cold and windy night that we stayed; the electric baseboard heater worked well. Grass area for dogs and sitting on nice Andirondack chairs looking out on a partially obstructed view of Bodega Bay.
