As a student at Berkeley in the 70's I picked up several speakers at the Durant and always wondered what it was like. Now I had my chance to stay there. The hotel is wonderfully located for access to the campus, being just across the street. The room we had was very nice, on a corner with lots of light,... More

The Durant is a romantic hotel in a quirky sort of way. My wife and I stayed here for a week while I was on a business trip. The hotel is just outside the campus, and the presence of the university is strong. The 1920s architecture is lovely even though the interiors have passed their best-by dates. The staff is... More

Dear Seminartraveller57, We want to thank you for staying at Hotel Durant during your recent visit to Berkeley while on a business trip. We couldn't agree with you more about the architecture being lovely. We are very cognizant and proud of our historic hotel which was built 88 years ago in 1928. The Spanish architecture is truly exquisite. In regards... More

If you are looking for a hotel to stay when visiting the Berkeley campus, you really couldn't find a better choice than the Durant. It is literally a block away. The restaurant/bar is also very good. The hotel does smell a little musty but it is an old hotel.

I found the service at the front desk very friendly and helpful. My room was very comfortable. The atmosphere was unique with character that I would expect from a historic landmark on the Berkeley Campus. Although the building is old, the room didn't seem that way. I was very impressed with the food I ate at Henry's in the Hotel.... More

Others may think that the Hotel Durant is quirky, unique, etc. But I have a different perspective. The hotel is almost 90 years old. The bathroom ventilation system did not work. We couldn't close the room windows all the way and the thermostat was not adjustable. The parking lot only holds 30 cars. Offsite, paid parking lots and street parking were... More

On the edge of the historic UC Berkeley campus, with an airy, Spanish-style lobby adorned with photos of Joan Baez and sixties protesters, the Hotel Durant has many charms, from Thursday night board games to tailgate bands in the parking lot on game night. Service is efficient and friendly. Give yourself time to use the slow, sole elevator for guests,... More

Rooms are nice and unique. It has a parking lot which to us was a rare find! Staff was nice and friendly. The restaurant Henry's has great food, however lousy mediocre service. The bartender created us with a big hello (we probably should have sat with him) we sat at a semi-circle booth, and the server we got didn't seem... More

Quite a disappointing experience.... This is my fourth time in Berkeley and my first time at hotel Durant. Just did not feel this was a good value, especially when I got hit with an unexpected $30 self park charge. If proximity to campus is important, this hotel might be worth it. Room was small and worn. Nice pub with good food.

Dear Douglas K, Unexpected fees at any venue can be discouraging, and the team at the hotel strive to be as transparent when it comes to charges.
