I was a little hesitant to go to a hotel right now during the pandemic, but looking at the website I saw that this property initially looked like it was taking it seriously. Unfortunately, the website claims did not match my experience.

Upon checking in, I was informed that housekeeping would not be coming by during my stay, which I expected and completely makes sense. The person that checked me in said I could just call the front desk for anything we needed and they would bring it to us.

The room was clean and pretty much what we expected. The beds were comfortable and the shower was hot any time of the day.

When it came time to get a few towels since we were staying multiple nights, it was much harder than expected. We contacted the front desk 3 separate times and asked for 2 more towels. Each time, we got an excuse that all of them were wet or none were available. We never did get any more towels, so pro tip, expect to reuse your towels over and over again while staying here.

Another minor annoyance is that our room had very little toilet paper which required us to ask for more which was kind of embarrassing. Could they just add a spare roll in the room when they see that less than 10% remains of the current roll?

I also noticed that many people indoors did not wear masks which unfortunately is expected given the varying degrees that people take this pandemic seriously. What I was more concerned about is that several housekeeping employees were not wearing masks and didn't seem to care. Yes, they were friendly and said hi, but I thought there was this policy that everyone has to wear masks inside? I understand, wearing masks is no fun, especially if you're working. However, if the employees aren't wearing masks, how would you expect customers to wear them?

The pool was also another area that was interesting. There are signs everywhere that if you want to swim, you need to call the front desk and make a reservation. I called and the person said it wasn't really working and that if we wanted to swim, to call the front desk and they would let us in. So we called when we were ready and surprise, we needed to wait until the next 'shift'. We met with the front desk person and they proceeded to ask everyone in the pool area what room they were in and that they needed to rotate out. Surprisingly, no one left and people were there all day. I get it, it's hot outside and swimming by the pool is nice, but could we take turns during the pandemic?

Overall, the hotel was ok, but I wouldn't go back and instead stay somewhere that takes the pandemic seriously. If you're in a high risk group, do not stay here.

As a handicapped individual that utilizes a mobility scooter, I could only access my room through one entrance. This is part of the construction though. Check in was great, even changed us to a floor level room due to elevator access in our part of the hotel. Rooms were large and very clean. Halls were well kept. Heated swimming pool and hot tub were warm and inviting. Hotel restaurants temp location was hard for me to access. I had to go outside the hotel and down the sidewalk, past the construction gates to enter from the outside doors. Service was good, food was average. The dining area was set up in what appeared to be a conference area. But hey, it's under construction so that would be expected. We would stay again if in Bakersfield.

Cleanliness was observed in every detail, where other hotels overlooked (fridge handle; toilet seat hinges, etc.). Floor did not soil our bare feet. Only disappointment was only one caffeinated coffee pouch for a two person booking.

It's amazing the things people complain about. Cookies?? Really?? One idiot actually posted that would be a reason for not staying at this hotel!! A lot of other stupid, petty complaints, someone complained about the USB chargers in the wall not working. Who travels without USB cables for your devices?? People are amazing.

Anyway this is my go to hotel in Bakersfield, I was there last weekend, I was driving from the LA area, bad weather forced me to leave much earlier than I had planned, wanted to beat the storm. Arrived in Bakersfield at about 9 am just as it began raining, called the hotel to see if by chance I could check in early. I knew it was a long shot on a Sunday morning.

Of course I was told that check out wasn't until 12 and the room was still occupied. Oh well, I guess I was going to find a restaurant to have a long, extended breakfast or brunch. 10 minutes later I contacted the hotel again and asked if they could expedite the cleaning of my room and suggestions for a nice restaurant. Albert responded, gave me a suggestion but then told me that my room had been cleaned and I could check in now!! It was 9:30 am!! I'll take that over a cookie!!

I was a bit concerned that they may have rushed the cleaning of my room but when I arrived, it was immaculate. My room was huge, I highly suggest the junior suite, it's about 800 sq ft, full dining room table with 6 chairs and a comfy sofa. Bathroom is also huge. Love this hotel

There is one issue I had while staying there, this is the third time I've dined at the restaurant, breakfast is fine, actually very good but the two times I had dinner there were both horrible. I had the shrimp pasta dish, it was below average. During my last visit, against my better judgement, I decided to try it again since I was tired and didn't feel like going out. Ordered the steak, it was top 10 worst steaks I've ever had. Just awful, I was barely able to finish it. I've had much better steaks at Denny's.
However, bad dining and no cookies are not reasons for me to not return to this wonderful hotel. There is a bakery across the street (I'm sure they have cookies) and dozens of dining options within 10 minutes of the hotel

The breakfast situation is odd. We were going to the restaurant and it looked like a continental buffet breakfast. No staff gave us menus, there was no sign posted for the price of the buffet, and it didn't connect to a kitchen. We assumed it was a free breakfast and with the price of the room seemed like it should be included. Someone should have approached us and asked if we wanted the buffet or to order off a menu. To be slid a bill as we were gathering up to leave seems...unprofessional and dishonest. If I would have known I was going to have to pay, I would have ordered something fresh...or gone somewhere else. The remodeled parts are nicely done but a pop up check in area was disconcerting for the price. The hot water does not get hot, or even warm really. I could not stand to take a shower.

The Doubletree in Bakersfield offered us no Breakfast service or Beverage Service (except bottled water and basic coffee in the room). They also don’t bake their signature cookies because of COVID-19. What a joke. They’ve had a year to safely offer these basic hospitality services. Hilton Garden and other competitors offer at least a grab bag. What, they don’t have the know how? The Doubletree not baking their chocolate chip cookies because of COVID-19 doesn’t sound even remotely believable. Restaurant restrictions were lifted a long time ago, and I think they are just saving costs at the expense of their customers. Stay at Hilton Garden.

Staff kept this place spotless and could not have been nicer. Pool, spa, fitness, all open in pandemic recovery. (Restaurant still closed, but there are snacks for sale at reception and plenty of food in area.) Big thanks to Thomas for making us feel welcome at front desk; he offered a room change bc I (unknowingly) chose interstate-facing on the app, but truly, we could barely hear it thanks to soundproofing. Fitness is so nice: lots of aerobic machines, incl Life Fitness treadmills hooked up to social connect app, and full set of dumbbells up to well more than I lift. Only criticism, spa was being used (and made unpleasantly dirty) as a kiddie pool by parents; would like to see that disallowed. Also my digital key stopped working, and I got stuck outside: fault of Hilton app (800 support never answered phone), not hotel staff, who gave me a conventional key.

We were able to stay here on short notice using Hilton points. Being a diamond member, we were given water and food credit.
I agree with other reviewers that the rooms are some distance from the desk area but trolleys are available (sometimes you need to wait for one to be returned).
When we arrived, cookies were not available but we were told when they would be so returned and got them fresh and warm. (always a good reason to stay at DoubleTree.) I guess we were fortunate the night we stayed, the bar and restaurant were open. Our waitress was also the bartender. She was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious (burger and caesar salad).
Sorry to hear others' experiences were not so super as ours.

The staff interaction was terrible. The employee that check us refused to give me a second key for my husband. When we arrived in the room there were only 2 towels for 4 of us so I called housekeeping and it took over an hour to get 2 extra towels even though there was barely anyone staying at the hotel. I would never stay there again.

I stay here whenever I am in Bakersfield, and I know what to expect. This is a property that needs to have some money spent on updating its rooms. When I asked for a DoubleTree cookie, a highlight of staying at a DoubleTree hotel I was told that there were no cookies and that there would no longer be cookies at this property. Well, if that is the case, this is not a DoubleTree hotel property. I can understand being out of stock or the warmer being on the fritz, but hotel ownership deciding that there will no longer be cookies is something very different. No cookies, not a DoubleTree.
