What a great hotel stay. We were traveling through and stopped in for a stay in Bakersfield during a very hot July day. We enjoyed a beautiful, clean and cool room. Not to mention the refreshing large pool. Great stay and nice hotel. Will be back again when we travel through Bakersfield
Staff kept this place spotless and could not have been nicer. Pool, spa, fitness, all open in pandemic recovery. (Restaurant still closed, but there are snacks for sale at reception and plenty of food in area.) Big thanks to Thomas for making us feel welcome at front desk; he offered a room change bc I (unknowingly) chose interstate-facing on the app, but truly, we could barely hear it thanks to soundproofing. Fitness is so nice: lots of aerobic machines, incl Life Fitness treadmills hooked up to social connect app, and full set of dumbbells up to well more than I lift. Only criticism, spa was being used (and made unpleasantly dirty) as a kiddie pool by parents; would like to see that disallowed. Also my digital key stopped working, and I got stuck outside: fault of Hilton app (800 support never answered phone), not hotel staff, who gave me a conventional key.…
Finally decided to revisit after 5 years. WOW, so glad I did. The lobby and all public spaces have a fabulous mid century modern vibe. The bar/restaurant has great service... Rooms are clean and fully updated. I will definitely be back.
It's an older building, but well maintained. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Our rooms had a terrace directly at the pool. Service level at the hotel is far below I am used to as a Hilton Gold member. It starts with the amenities in the room: Only 2 towels and 1 shampoo. There is no room service and the restaurant has a very limited choice, both for dinner as breakfast. The corridors are not clean. A doubletree should do better.
Walked 3 miles to our room. From 401 to 491. No ac in hallways. No ac in (sweat box) elevator. Hilton should disown Doubletree. 3rd time at Doubletree. Never again!1. Manager excuse: “it’s a very old property”. He DID NOT GIVE A Damn!
The hotel elevators are dirty. The maid says they clean the bathroom floors w/only water. I requested that my linen be changed on the fourth day and was told I had to do it . Covid is an excuse for the lack of service….no disinfectant. The carpet is dirty. It is a very dirty place. Hilton should be appalled. I requested Lysol and changed my linen, removed the dust webs from the ceiling, and cleaned my bathroom. Used to be a decent hotel. They remodeled and have done nothing to maintain the rooms. They surface clean. If I had not wiped the bathroom floor with a Clorox wipe, I would have never known how nasty the floor was. No apology from the manager. No follow up. Hilton should have better standards. Very disappointed.
I’ve stayed at this hotel a few times several years ago and swore it off as it was in total need of modernization. Recently I had business in Bakersfield and needed several rooms at a Hilton property. The Doubletree was the only one centrally located to where my family and I were conducting business. I saw the pictures on their website of their renovation but I read recent reviews and was anxious. I decided to book the Doubletree anyway and I’m glad I did. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff at the front desk and restaurant were friendly, as were the housekeepers and maintenance crews we encountered around the property. Seeing security patrol the parking lot at night was reassuring too. I without a doubt recommend this hotel and will not hesitate to stay here in the future.…
I decided to try the Doubletree again after a bad experience at the Padre. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I quit staying at the Doubletree for business a couple years ago due to different reasons, but glad I came back. The hotel is in a convenient location for me, has good parking, and several dining options nearby. Their bar/restaurant menu is somewhat limited, but the food I did have was great and the service was good and friendly. The hotel and rooms have been completely remodeled and have a more modern feel. They have a great fitness center on site as well. All in all a great stay and will be my go-to place to stay in Bakersfield when on business.
Usual Doubletree standards, but the very unusual layout of the buildings means it is a very long way from the restaurant/bar to the elevator, let alone along the corridor to the far end rooms. Excellent if you are fit and mobile but otherwise beware.
We were able to stay here on short notice using Hilton points. Being a diamond member, we were given water and food credit. I agree with other reviewers that the rooms are some distance from the desk area but trolleys are available (sometimes you need to wait for one to be returned). When we arrived, cookies were not available but we were told when they would be so returned and got them fresh and warm. (always a good reason to stay at DoubleTree.) I guess we were fortunate the night we stayed, the bar and restaurant were open. Our waitress was also the bartender. She was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious (burger and caesar salad). Sorry to hear others' experiences were not so super as ours.
