Driving from the Bay Area to Death Valley, we decided to stay one night at this Marriott to break up the drive. It also allowed us to redeem a Marriott e-certificate. In our experience sometimes using an e-certificate gets you the most modest accommodation available. This was not the case here. Consistent with our profile we were given a room on the 8th floor looking south toward the mountains. Granted we were also looking over the back parking lot but we believe that was better than overlooking the busy street in front of the hotel. We found the room to be well appointed and up-to-date. We were frankly a little surprised given other reviewers more critical comments. We admit we were probably fortunate that there were no events at the adjacent convention center so things were probably a little slow in the hotel anyway. Regardless, we were delighted to have registration allow us an early check-in (at 2:00 pm). It allowed us enough time to explore the city a little before going out to dinner. Self-parking, at no charge no less, was convenient and allowed us easy access into the hotel right near the elevators. It was a perfect layover experience.

We stayed here for one night on our way from Vegas to San Francisco. Pros: - clean - friendly staff Cons: - next to a noisy train that ran all night - super thin walls - we got an adjoining room and we could hear every word of our neighbor’s conversation - rooms are outdated - toilets were extremely loud when flushed

Was coming back to the hotel and couldn't find parking so i parked my car in the drop off zone so i went inside to see a manager. I asked the front desk person if there was a manager on duty. He said no so i explained to him that there was no parking available for registered guest He said he couldn't do anything about it I ask for a supervisor for help He started to bully me saying that he was going to kick me out of my room he called security to have me removed. His attitude was "Get the f out man" He is not a customer service representive he needs to be trained or terminated He never rectify the situation . Never stay here again it cost me 520 for 4 nights and management don't care either

Response from Mayra Chavez, Sales at Bakersfield Marriott at the Convention Center

995philv Your initial approach to our team member was threatening with loud vulgar voice as witnessed, which it has been excluded in your comments. We at the Bakersfield Marriott by the Convention Center have an obligation to be mutually respectful to both our guests and our “Guests Behind the Walls”. If you wish, please do not hesitate to call my direct number at 661-886-8000 to further discuss. Respectfully, Tony Zilobaf, General Manager

We booked our room several months ago, upon arriving at the hotel the front desk claimed they could not find our reservation despite us showing them the email from Marriott with our confirmation number and booking rate. We were charged almost double of what we reserved the room at and when we were told the General Manager would call us to resolve, all we got was an email from someone in accounting telling us they weren’t going to honor their original quoted rate. Very rude, very disrespectful and dishonest. We travel A LOT and book rooms for our employees a LOT and will not be booking at any Marriott again.

Clean, spacious room....not sending in staff for daily cleaning during the pandemic is smart, but you have to go find a maid in order to replenish the shampoo, etc. No freebies in the way of meals or coffee here, but the spacious bar/diner will more than adequately address the majority of your food needs

We stayed at this property two weekends in a row following a death in the family. The first weekend, we were given a room next to the elevator which was noisy but we could deal with it for one night. However, the front desk clerk would not give my husband his Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite check-in bonus points saying he was not entitled to them. This weekend, we had two rooms. The front desk put our young adults in a room two floors away and could not seem to understand the concept of “king room away from the elevator.” It took about 15 minutes to check in. Then, only one of the lobby elevators was working and some people had to be taken up in a staff elevator. When we got to our room, it smelled very strongly of smoke and there were ashes in the bathtub/shower. There was also no tv remote. We had to call twice to have one brought up. The people next door partied loudly from 11:48 p.m. until well after 3:00 a.m. Two calls to security did little good. Our kids on the lower floor also had very noisy neighbors. The restaurant downstairs has remained closed for the most part. I would not recommend this poorly managed and operated property.

I was very pleased with my stay. Room was comfortable and clean. Check-in was fast and friendly. No air conditioning in the hallways. In Bakersfield that's a big issue. Parking is very convenient and free. as a titanium elite member, I'm curious why I did not get a suite upgrade. I know the hotel was not full. Staff and most guests were complying with covid-19 policies.

Convenient Marriott if you need a break from driving on the 5. Nice service at the front desk and lounge/bar. Coming from SF where shelter-in-place is pretty strict, it was nice to have a glass of wine at a safe distance from others and you can tell the hotel is taking a lot of extra care to keep it clean and safe. Nice room and they put us on the 8th floor with the city view. Cool view of the trains without the noise! It was nice and quiet. The only drawback was the bed! I’ve stayed at so many Marriotts for work and know their style of mattress, usually pretty decent even for a side sleeper (though not perfect), but this one has my partner and I tossing and turning all night. I think it’s time for them to do an audit and upgrade the older mattresses. Other than that, a great stay just as you’d expect from Marriott.

The Marriott Bakersfield is a fine hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful, the rooms are comfortable, the elevators are fast and get to you fast. I’m here on business and the hotel suits my needs well, the TV is good. The placement of some of the furniture is a bit off, though. The sofa is against the window and you have to squeeze behind it to close the drapes. The refrigerator is against the wall and next to the sofa in such a way that the fridge door opens toward the side of the sofa. Bottom line is that you have to reach and bend over the door to get into the fridge. Also, there is no microwave. The other problem is that the wi-fi is quite slow and freezes a lot. That’s unusual in hotels these days, usually wi-fi is fast and reliable. Another positive is that the parking is free and plentiful. Overall, a pretty good Marriott property, new and modern.

I stayed at this hotel for work and it delivered. Decent sized rooms, a nice gym that was empty, and easy to get food. Starbucks and a restaurant on the ground floor. The hotel also has room service. Very easy to walk to downtown activities from the hotel.
