-Was staying at Residence Inn in Bakersfield, CA for the night this past weekend. I parked around the side in front of the building with our room. We parked in the well lit, gated parking lot, that had signs indicated 24 hour video surveillance. Our car was jam packed because we are moving so we only removed a few personal items for our overnight stay. -at around 11 PM, I received a call from the front desk telling me that my car had been broken into and there had been a theft -I checked my car, the rear passenger window had been busted. Two large suitcases of clothes had been stolen along with my DSLR camera and lenses. (M -I came to the lobby and asked if the police had been notified. Emma, the front desk worker said that I had to call them, so I did -Bakersfield PD was essentially useless. They said they don’t send officers out for that kind of thing. I had file the report online -I asked Emma about this and she just ROLLED HER EYES, SHRUGGED and said, “Bakersfield is sh***y” -I asked Emma if the hotel could call the police and see if they could get someone to come down there and she said that they don’t do that -I asked about the security cameras and she informed me that there are no cameras in that area, only in the front, by the lobby. -AT NO POINT WAS I OFFERED AN INCIDENT REPORT OR A COMPED STAY -Emma only suggested that I move my car to the front and asked if I’d like to switch rooms. -Security was not notified. Eventually he came around to check in. He asked how tonight was going, Emma simply said, “Nothing really. Just a break-in” -I asked security if they could help, he said he could call the police himself but said they would not come until the next morning at the earliest -security did not investigate the incident, did not ask me or my partner any questions, did not offer to escort us to our new room, did not even stick around. -the entire incident was treated with no sense of urgency. They treated me more like I was making a noise complaint or something. They seemed to follow no emergency procedures and have no concern for my well being or safety following this unfortunate event. It was only after I demanded an incident report to be filled out was I offered one. -I called and spoke with the GM, Pamela, the next morning and was offered little help. Just hiding behind the “We are not liable for accidents and thefts of personal property left in cars” rhetoric. -while I understand this policy, you are still responsible for your guests’ safety and well being. And for assisting them in such incidents. Instead, we were treated with a “what would you like us to do about it” attitude. -I’ve been a Marriott customer nearly my entire life. My parents are Marriott Bonvoy Premium members. And I have never been treated so poorly or had such awful service. It is not what I expect out of your company and I believe that this location needs further investigation

Response from RIBakersfieldGM, General Manager at Residence Inn Bakersfield

Jacob, we regret that your recent stay did not meet expectations due to concerning circumstances involving your vehicle in our parking area. We understand how a situation like this could cause feelings of frustration and distress, especially when mixed with the perceived reaction from our team members. This type of sentiment isn't the impression we aim to leave guests with. We appreciate the longstanding loyalty of your family as Marriott Bonvoy Premium members and understand that this incident may have marred your opinion of the brand. We assure you that what transpired was not the norm and your feedback will be utilized to potentially prevent similar implications in the future.

Emma from night audit was fantastic! Incredibly helpful, went above and beyond for the guest. There was an issue with the microwave making constant noise. Emma personally went to the room to figure out where the sound was coming from and fixing the issue.

Lovely big room with very comfortable beds. Good value. There is coffee available downstairs in the lobby but not in the rooms, which was disappointing. A bag bkfast was provided that was not that interesting. A packet pastry, fruit and a granola bar. BUT we got a good nights sleep, which is why we were there!

Hi. I rarely write reviews. My gut is that people are more likely to write a bad review than a good one. Well, I need to let you know about Ema! My wife and I arrived late last night and had the pleasure to be welcomed by Ema! She could not have been more inviting and friendly. In today's post COVID climate, I think the expectation is bad customer service is the new norm. She provided excellent service. Thanks! Then, in the morning we came down to get coffee and some breakfast and the entire staff was super friendly. Lastly, the room was clean, which is always a huge plus! We will be back. Carl and Edy

I really enjoy staying here. Yes, I have only been here one night but the person at the front desk is awesome! Her name is Bella. Yes, like the beautiful Bella in Twilight series. I was very tired and she was super sweet to me. I told her that I was hearing impaired and my mom too and she was very patient with us. I checked, and I'm not kidding, over 5 hours for different places to stay and many reviewers talked about cockroaches, ants and the great possibility of their cars being broken into. I decided to pay a bit more for a nicer place. Thank you other reviewers for posting that the rooms are big and clean. I found that to be true. The only problem I had was that the refrigerator makes a rumbling sound at night. Maybe it was hungry!??? I was too tired to do anything about it and fell asleep about 15 minutes later. I know for certain that if I would have told Bella she would have gotten the problem fixed right away. Who knows, maybe she would have gotten the tools to fix it herself. Yep, she's that cool of a person. That being said, I am at the Mario Murillo event here to pray for people. If you are in Bakersfield from March 12-15th come on out under the tent and have Jesus touch you! Love this place.

Stayed for one night. Arrived early in the afternoon and Mary Jane at the front desk greeted us. MJ is super friendly and helpful - makes for a great first impression. Hotel room was very clean - we were on the first floor facing the parking lot. For our quick stay that was fine and we felt totally secure. We had a studio room which included a fireplace. Parking is $10.00 and $1.20 for tax. Breakfast had quite a few options: scrambled eggs, bacon, apples, yogurt, muffins, bagels, toast, make your own waffles and oatmeal. They kept the trays filled - were quite a few guests staying for a soccer tournament. Staff in dining room super nice as well. Sat in patio area (there is a firepit) and it is very nice. I saw they have a tennis court (or pickle ball) and pool. A great stay EXCEPT our bed. Have to say it was the worst bed we've slept in. It had to be broken - so bad that both of us rolled towards the center. I told front desk upon check out and hopefully room 212 bed gets replaced. The bed issue would be reason to give this Residence Inn a "2 or 3" rating; but the nicest people work here, the food was very filling and the hotel clean so that warrants a 4.

Friendliest staff (Emma specifically) was amazing to start. Emma was very engaging and told us everything we needed to know to have a great experience. We didn’t arrive until late and Emma made it all flawless. I wish more people would have that sense of customer service. Our room was awesome too! Great accommodations!

Friendly staff and nice grounds but thats the best I can say. This is an extremely tired property in need of a big update. We left after a few days due to safety concerns in the area- lots of homeless. Our room was situated on the first floor and easily accessible to the parking lot. We kept our blinds and curtains closed so no one could look in. The bright and lovely pictures displayed were not representative of our dark, yellow walled, brown granite, brown rug, brown couch room. There were no club chairs as depicted in the pics, and the couch had seat cushions, but no back cushions - not sure if they were missing or if that was the style. It was a bit depressing and I kept wondering if the rug was brown in color of if it was really dirty. The pillows smelled of oily hair and I had to put a T shirt over it in order to sleep. The breakfast was fair but there are Starbucks and Paneras in the area for food. The lobby had been updated, and hopefully the rooms will get updated too. A Security gate would absolutely give the customers a more secure feeling. Did not see Gym, pool or fire pit area.

We've always loved this place because they allow pets and it's nice and roomy. This experience was less than great. TV didn't work, there was trash in my bathroom basket when I checked in, the tables weren't wiped down. It was frankly gross... the next day for breakfast everything is cleaned out at 8:45am. I asked if they are making anymore eggs and the lady says, "no, it takes 10 min to make." No cream cheese.. for the bagel, and no coffee... no creamer. To their credit the front desk lady was lovely, very kind, however the kitchen staff and maid service is less than subpar. Likely looking for another place next visit. The pros are the fog friendliness & a gated area for dogs. My favorite complaint, is the kitchen motion detector, it goes off after 5 seconds, so you basically have to do jumping jacks to make coffee.

Great hotel and clean rooms. We checked in early. We always stay here when in Bakersfield. Very friendly staff and good breakfast. The air conditioning was good and cold considering it was 108 outside. Very nice property with a great pool for swimming.
