Great place to stay in Orchha, away from the bustle of the town. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, plenty of hot water. Manager was very helpful, all the staff were friendly. Good views from the roof terrace and very handy washing lines up there! Would certainly stay here again.
we booked this hotel based on the ratings from the internet, the gentlemen who run the place are very kind and welcoming, they offered us some delicious masala chai upon arrival, for us being on a budget and wanting a private room it was great, it was clean with a huge bathroom. we enjoyed our breakfast on the rooftop with views of the temple tops in the distance what a great view. walking ditance to tons of delicious restaurants , atms, temples and markets. we had a choice to check out or stay for an extra night and we decided to stay another night :)
Shri Mahanta hotel is very comfortable for travellers. Quaite room, good price, good service, wi fi, breacfast, hot shower, tv. Hotel situated near with Lakshmi temple, nice view on rooftpop. And very friendly stuff! Name of owner is Sonu! Good place for rest during a travel!
Looking for a friendly and decent buget hotel we ran into this place. The manager, Sona, is a very friendly guy with a big smile. They serve an Indian breakfast with parathas and good chai and coffee. The shower us perfect and the sheets freshly washed.
This hotel has a sister opposite - it used to be all the same hotel but the one we stayed in is now called HOTEL HARE KRISHNA - they are owned by brothers who have gone out on their own. This one is unfinished and the brother who runs it, Jitendra, has great plans for it in the next few years. He is a charming host, met us at Jhansi Railway Station and took us back there on our return; he was very helpful indeed ; the room we had was large, comfortable beds, small but clean bathroom; It was just on the edge of village and a nice walk from the centre.
Although Orccha is a small town, it can get quite loud near the center. This hostel was tucked away from the main area and the rooms were very quite at night time. The view from the roof was a nice spot to unwind around sunset. The manager was very friendly and helped out with a few logistical issues. No restaurant on site though, but there's chai when needed.
I stayed at the Shri Mahant for 2 nights in one of their budget rooms. First, the positives... the staff were friendly and helpful, and although not all of them spoke good english someone could always be found to help understand my questions. There is no restaurant on site but good chai was available whenever I requested it. It's a 5 minute walk into the main part of town and as a single female traveller I felt safe there. There is free wifi and this worked well the whole time I was there. On to the negatives... the room and in particular the bathroom were not clean, I don't consider myself to be super fussy but it looked like the bathroom hadn't been cleaned for a long time. I have stayed in lots of budget hotels on this trip and know that budget accommodation doesn't have to mean dirty! The pillows were very hard. I solved this by putting the pillow under the mattress. (On this note the sheets were clean although a little stained in places) finally I was in a room near reception and it got very noisy from around 630am with the staff shouting to each other with no consideration for sleeping guests. These problems could be easily fixed and this would make Shri Mahant a much nicer place to stay. …
I have been in India for 3 weeks now and this is the worst place I stayed in. Really run down and badly.. or should I say hardly managed at all. The front desk had no one there most of the time. I couldn't find anyone to complain the hot water in my room wasn't working. When I finally got to talk to someone he ensured me they would fix it during the day. For now he gave me a bucket with hot water. I left my keys with him but on my return nothing had been done. My key was hanging there in the unattended lobby. I couldn't find anyone. So locals from across the street came in who didn't speak english trying to work out what I wanted.. just a nightmare. The doors to the rooms occupied the night before where open. No beds made, dirty laundry / sheets everywhere. I had a dirty singlet and underpants hanging in my bathroom when I moved in! To make things worse the noise level of people shouting, loud conversations, shifting furniture around, banging doors lasted till 12pm before it was quiet. Lucky I was by myself in a double room so I could put both mattresses on top of each other as one was too thin and hard. There is no love in this place. It's a dump. Don't do it to yourself.…
My boyfriend and I stayed here in April 2013 and had a lovely stay. We found Orchha itself mesmorising so I think we would have been happy with any accommodation! The building is nothing special but they were very attentive in making sure we were comfortable (we changed rooms because of noisy air coolers) and gave us a discount on a great, large downstairs room. We found the food in Orchha a little limited but Jitan our host cooked us dinner one evening and it was delicious. Jitan is also training to be a tour guide and offered to accompany us on our day trip out of Orchha and be our complimentary guide, which was fantastic. Although the rooftop is empty you are surrounded by local neighbours and the views are, of course, brilliant.
Our host Jhitan was very helpful indeed and when our original budget room upstairs had issues with the air cooling unit he moved us into a much bigger room down stairs. The home cooked food we had was really delicious and we were well looked after. The room was nothing special but it hd nice high ceilings and was cool. The roof top views were amazing and we watched the sun go down from there every night we stayed there. Would visit Orchha again and would stay here as long as Jhitan was still working.
