Since the time we started out Orchha trip we came across many home stay and hotels as every other home in Orchha is either a Home stay or restaurant. When we read about this Innovative initiative to help locals we decided to stay here. Romi is a Fantastic Guy who manages this and will help ou with every single details of the area and helps you in every possible way. Stay options was very well maintained had everything that you could ask for in the room. e.g. a Printout of a Multilingual translator was also there to help you in communicating with the host family. Host family makes sure that Food and snacks were served on time and there was a Bonfire too in the night. We had enjoyed every interaction with the local people here. Highly Highly recommended if you are looking for a different home stay in Orchha…
Situated a little bit outskirts from the city. The location gives one a prefect countryside feeling. The rooms are comfortable, with basic amenities and most hospitable family members. Enjoy a glimpse of village life while you stay here.
We spend few days in Orchha with one of the family of this association. And it was a real pleasure. The room was large, clean and practical,in the courtyard, where all the family life happens. After few hours, even with basic English we felt really confortable and learn a lot about tradition and way of living. You can eat with them on the best meal of India. If you need anything, the member of the association is there to help us to organise trip, tour... Etc but without pushing! Warmly recommanded!
Our stay in Orchha was truly special. For those of you who want to experience real village life in India, you will not be disappointed. Our family the Yadav’s were welcoming, friendly and accommodating. Any request such as hot water and blankets were taken care of. Talking to the family you soon understand the challenges that they face. It was inspiring to be part of their life for a few days. Don’t expect too much luxury, there is no running water, the toilet is a hole in floor and it can get cold in the winter, but the house was very clean and cosy, and very homely. We loved the simplicity of it. Romi, the manager, was one of the best guys we have met in India. Professional and on point, he made our time there run very smoothly. Totally recommend the experience !
I must thank Mr Romi, Kusum and Manoj for their love and hospitality. Homely stay with tasty food. They even took care of my old mother who could not move around the town and stayed back during the day time. It was a lovely stay and we celebrated Diwali along with the community children. It was a bit challenging for my mother as the wash rooms are bit far from the room and because of her age, she had to use the washroom several times during the night. Otherwise a good stay.
The family we stayed at was so friendly, lovely and welcoming. The children speak English very well and the room is clean! You’ll experience the lifestyle of people in rural areas and it’s definitely not touristic.
Without knowing much about this village we really lucked out. We were welcomed into the Yadav family and had an absolutely fabulous stay. We participated in their daily life, from cooking, schooling, to visiting the farm. During our stay we met the founder of this project, a passionate woman who made this dream into a reality. Many local families are involved in this project and the homestays connect them with the outside world and especially bring a much-needed extra source of income. The Yadav's home is basic, but very comfortable with everything we needed, including a private room with a comfortable bed with a good fan, a shower, a common area to meet with the family and delicious food. A big thank you to Kiran, Surendra, Mini, Khushi and of course Mojo. We really do hope to return one day - or at least keep in touch with the family.…
We wanted to visit Orccha, famous for its 17th-century monuments and rural setting. We found out about Orccha Homestay and booked four nights (we wanted to stay five, but had difficulty with our train booking so couldn't stay the fifth night). This was not my first experience of rural village life, but it was a great reminder of how peaceful life can be in a rural setting. We started off with one family but had to shift to another because we had some stomach issues arise during our trip to Orccha, and needed to be a bit closer to the bathroom. However, we enjoyed both families, getting to know them a little bit (we stopped by the first family daily to pick up filtered water and have a little chat), and watching how they managed their daily life. It was also a nice chance to practice our (very limited) Hindi. The warmth and kindness of both families was very welcome. I got to hold a baby and/or toddler in each household, which was fun, and watch the second family care for their goats (several had new babies -- adorable). We were also impressed with the excellent food. We had only breakfast and tea at the first home, but enjoyed both very much. The larger meals at the second home were very satisfying: beautifully cooked dal, vegetables and chapati, fresh and delicious. It was fun to watch the two daughters-in-law cooking on the outdoor stove, and to chat a bit about ingredients. We also got to share family photos -- theirs in albums, ours on my phone. Romi came to visit and told us some interesting things about the village and the history of the program. We also enjoyed meeting Mini, a daughter of one of the other homestay family, when she came to make up our bill at the end of our stay. Her excellent English and confidence showed us one big benefit to the homestay families -- the quality education that the children are able to get, because their families can now afford better schools. Other benefits are also obvious: The families get to build an extra room or two, put in nice washrooms and toilets, and otherwise improve their homes and standard of living. All in all, I would say this is a very successful program, and I hope it continues to expand to include more families in Ganj. Advice for any traveler planning to stay with one of the host families: Bring pictures of your own family. It's fun to show these and share information about your family, too. Can help break the ice with your host family. Also, stay more than a night or two. Orccha is a fascinating place -- we walked around for almost 4 full days and we did not get bored. And the more time you spend, the more of the family's life you can share.…
We stayed two nights with Mukesh and family. Our accommodations were clean and comfortable in a lovely, peaceful setting. We enjoyed the short walk to Orchha and the interesting sights there. However, rather than being involved with the family, we were strictly observers, never invited to participate in any activity, such as cooking, painting, fetching water, etc. Hygiene was also a concern--the 3 year old child present was noted to "wash" the plates our meal was served on, and cups were still wet (concerning for waterborne illness) so we took our tea to our room and dumped it out. Additionally, each of the three women in the family brought out items for us to purchase, which wouldn't have been so bad had we been received as truly guests. Overall I felt we were an imposition on this family, and we're actually very friendly people! Nevertheless, the room was fine. The experience, however, was not as advertised--we were pretty much on our own.…
We are a family from France and we spent two nights in Orchha Homestay. It was a fantastic experience. Our two host families were super kind and made us feel very welcome. Special mention to the kids who brought us cups of tea and water - we miss you! Accommodation was simple (ecological toilets and bucket of water in a separate building ) but very clean and we felt really at home in our lovely rooms. Food prepared by the families was absolutely delicious. We spent the last night discussing with Romi and looking at the beautiful night sky and the thousands of stars. It was magic and our stay has a special place in our hearts. Also, Orchha itself is incredible, it's very calm, relaxing and the landscape is very green ( in August) and extremely beautiful with all the palaces everywhere. It's quite surreal and absolutely jaw dropping. So, please do come to this beautiful project of responsible tourism, as for us, we would love to come back one day !…
