Our family of 5 stayed here early January 2017. Our family rooms were large and very comfortable. When the clouds cleared we got glimpses of Cotopaxi. We enjoyed walking around the beautiful grounds. The food was plentiful and delicious. We couldn't get enough of the soups and juices. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating. The appetizers they brought to...

We've stayed in three haciendas here in Ecuador. This was my favorite. How can you not be stoked to eat lunch and dinner in what was an Incan temple? That dining room was just an amazing place. The staff is super friendly and went out of their way to do things for us to make sure our stay was perfect....

Hacienda San Agustin is a splurge, but worth it. The location--at the foot of Cotopaxi volcano--is breathtaking. The staff are wonderful. And the hacienda is unique. Where else can you dine in an Incan room? Gorgeous. I'd recommend a stay of at least two nights, as it's an experience to savor. Also, there's plenty to do nearby including the obligatory...

The beauty of the Hacienda is breathtaking! Almost unbelievable! The staff were absolutely attentive and kind! The cuisine and service were divine! They had their own organic garden. The chef is quite talented and the cooking highlighted Ecuadorian cuisine with gourmet style! The alpacas/llamas were fun to feed carrots...My daughter was there to ride and had the luck to be accompanied by...

Was only there for the day. We were greeted with a warm, smiley humble staff with warm canelazo (hot cinnamon drink with an optional shot of puntas (a homemade high alcoholic beverage). Then we were introduced to the llamas. We got to feed them (about 8 of them) with sliced carrots presented to us in a weaved large basket. With...

By far the standout of our Ecuador honeymoon (counting Galapagos). The proprietor Mignon is an incredible resource, and exquisitely committed to the property and guests' experiences. From the Inca dining room and chapel to the fireplace in our bathroom to the welcome Canelazo and llama show to the honor bar with fascinating global guests each night, it was an absolute...

It's fascinating place! Beautiful, original with a lot of history. If you want to stay away from everything, relax and recharge it's your place to go! Just you , history and nature. If you cannot live without TV ,Wi-fi, social life, well, it maybe not good hotel for you. Food is great, from hacienda own garden, healthy and organic. They...

Our Andean summer began at San Augustin hacienda. We arrived in the evening after a long flight and realized how cold the mountains can be. We immediately sensed the special atmosphere of the place. The inner court with small chapel, the rooms with fireplace heating built on the ruins of original Inka constructions. There is also a beautifuly designed living...

We stayed just the one night which was too short. Amazing room with open fire. Superb food taken in rooms with Inca walls. Delightful hospitality from Mignon, Patricio and the team. We must find a way to go back to this magical place in the shadow of Cotopaxi

I love the feeling of the old Hacienda, but San Agustin goes a step above that with the Inca ruins. Service was great, the views of Cotopaxi are breath taking, the locro was the best I ever tasted and we LOVED the llamas.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Since the 15th century San Agustin de Callo has served as an Inca fortress and palace and Augustinian monastery and was also temporary home of the French Geodesic Mission (1742) whose scientific work helped change the shape of the planet. Other famous visitors include the brilliant German scientist and explorer Alexander von Humboldt and English mountain climber Edward Whymper. In 1912 the Hacienda was purchased by General Leonidas Plaza Gutierrez, leader of the liberal Revolution and two-time President of Ecuador. With only eleven rooms, it is one of the most romantic spots for honeymoons and other special occasions. San Agustin de Callo constitutes the only lived in museum of Inca Imperial and Spanish Colonial style. Surrounded by the smoke-blackened Inca walls of the dining room, one can marvel at the infinite precision of the stonemasonry, a monument to the unrivalled craftsmanship of the Incas, and admire the stunning view of Cotopaxi, the highest active volcano in the world. The peaceful atmosphere and magical landscape combine to make San Agustin a sanctuary of inspiration for artists and lovers of nature and a restful haven for weary travelers ... more   less
