The Royalton Bavaro is a great resort, especially for families. There are lots of activities from corn hole to salsa dance classes to pool workout. Plenty of restaurants to choose from and the food was well prepared and plentiful. The beach is clean and the water was spectacular. We had the Diamond Club package so had free access to the WaveRider surfing machine, which was a blast for the kids. Also as part of the Diamond Club package, we were assigned a butler to look after our resort needs such as restaurant reservations. Our butler, Michael, was truly amazing. He was so helpful and friendly and made our trip stress-free. Overall, we had a great time and highly recommend the Royalton Bavaro!
The Royalton Bavaro is getting it right! We were in the Diamond Club and we loved it. The check in was amazing. Off the bus and straight into a cart with our luggage to the Diamond Club lounge. "Have a seat ,.would you like any drinks, there are snacks over there and we will bring the paperwork to you" wow! Great start! The bracelets ARE your room key! What an amazing concept! So all of us had our room key always with us.( the Staff puts the bracelets on with a crimper and my sons came off in the flow rider. They did initially tell us it would be $50 US to replace it. I was pretty annoyed since it's not like he played with it and lost it.. they put it on and I guess it wasn't right so how is that oit fault. And my son felt.super bad because he's no irresponsible, he had told me right away that it was gone) Anyhow, the next day, we were ready to pay up but a supervisor was there and said "no charge". Phew! Another win for.the Royalton. We.met our Butler Edwin at check-in. So nice and personable. We didn't need him much BUT when we did,.he was so responsive and helpful. Ready to come to us where ever we were to get things done. The room was nice. Clean . The closet door was broken which doesn't seem like much but it has a light that activated when the door was opened and it kept coming on and off throughout the night so we asked Edwin and he got the crew there to fix it the next day. One thing that's different is that we couldn't control our own AC. Usually there is a control in the room but not here. It would be nice to have that but it is what it is. The two kids shared a pull out couch. They didn't complain at all but in hindsight, would.have been nice for them to have an actual bed. The towel service!! Another HUGE win for the Royalton Bavaro! Beach towels are abundant! And you just pick them up at two locations and when they are wet or dirty, they have receptacles to put them in and you can go get more. No more guarding towels!!! In my opinion,.this is a big stress reliever! That and never having to look for the room key. Restaurants galore. Good food. Service is good too.. staff is super.friendly! Entertainment is so so. They have musicians in the lobby before dinner that we loved to have pre-dinner drinks and listen to but after dinner.. there's nothing. There is a big beautiful stage area in the lobby. It's nicely lit,.etc but after dinner.. you come out of the main buffet and you watch kids running and playing there. There is no music amd nothing to keep you entertained until the shows start at 9pm I felt they could do.something better there. We don't stay up late for the shows so can't really comment on the quality on the late shows. We watched the circus one and it was ok / good. Would be nice to have a second coffee bar at the other end of the resort. The coffee bar is at the lobby amd very popular so it would be great to have a second one somewhere closer to the beach. But thats just a suggestion no complaint. You can get a coffee at the DC lounge too. The beach is nice. If the waves are strong, they do bring in sea weed. It's not yucky though. Not slimy. Just plant material. My daughter and I both had a small reaction to the brown plant kind. A small rash. Must have been touching us for longer than a second or two. A bit of Voltaren gel and it went away. The sales people.on the beach are easily dissuaded if you say no right away. But if you start looking at something, be prepared to negotiate or be very firm. The animals they will take pictures of you with cost $$ They will all negotiate significantly so make sure to bring some haggling confidence. Chairs at the beach and pool are very comfortable. Loads of shade if you want it. Bars and drinks everywhere. We did power sailing and the Bavaro adventure park. Both were good. Don't know if I would do the power sailing again. It is rough on the boat and then a quick up and down (maybe 15 minutes) it IS fun but it's like $40 - $60 US and they get you with the picture costs. There is a photographer on the boat taking pictures and of course.. you want the memories lol so I paid.. not cheap. $40 per round. The Bavaro adventure park was fun. Buggy zip lining and horses. You aren't allowed to take any camera with you other than go pros on the helmet ,.but they have photographers everywhere that get cool shots and I got sucked in again and paid big $$$ for them You can say No for sure. They don't pressure you at all. If you want to do power sailing book it early because if the wind isn't blowing right,.they don't do it. So don't wait to the last day or two. We had a great trip. We came from Canada and had to have the PCR test done . And QR codes for entering and leaving DR. Plus Arrivecan that didn't even work at the Canada Airport... but you need to have a smart phone and save those codes. The Royaltons wifi is great! Works everywhere from the beach to the lobby! It's a bit rough in the evenings when everyone seems to be on but other wise, super good. The lazy river is not too fast. Not much flow so you sort of swim or paddle through it. And it's not warm. But the kids liked it. It is fun to go through a few times. Flow Rider is super fun. Hard! But the guy who is there doing it was super good and nice. We took advantage of the Punta Cana Splash park (included with Diamond club) and it was fun for the afternoon) I could go on and on but all to say, great vacay. Glad we were able to get away before more restrictions came in. The staff at the Royalton all went masks all the time. They have hand sanitizer at the restaurants and disposable face masks in case you forget. When you BOOK your PCR test make sure you PAY at the same time. Otherwise you show up for your appointment and have to get back in line, which could be an hour. Great resort!…
We enjoyed our stay at this resort. We upgraded to the Diamond Club and our butler, Michael, made our trip much more memorable. He was very nice and made every request possible within minutes. We could experience dining at all the restaurants with the reservation he made for us. We would give the quality and taste of food 7 out of 10. The quality of coffee/espresso products and ice cream/gelato would need some major improvement. We loved the lazy River; it provided fun family activity for us. We also appreciated the access and transportation to the water park in the sister property. The nightly shows were very well planned and enjoyed every single one of them. We had the presidential suit and it was spacious and beautiful. We had everything we needed in the room. Overall it was a great experience and would stay here again.…
My husband and I just returned from a four-night stay and were very disappointed. We have traveled to many places in the Caribbean and were surprised at the lack of hospitality and service that we experienced at the Royalton Bavaro. From the minute we arrived on the property, it was apparent how disorganized everything was. The staff didn't speak much, if any English and didn't seem to want to help in any way. For example, we called to inquire about renting a cabana by the pool and were told it was arranged and to be at the desk at 10am the next morning to speak to someone named Esteban. When we showed up, Esteban was not there and the representative told us the cabana we reserved wasn't available. We were sent to a different one, and then moved again. The rental fee for the cabana was changed three times and when we finally settled into one and hour and a half later, we were told emphatically that we had to vacate by 5pm. All of this happened while I was trying to get around the large property in a surgical boot with a broken foot. We were cautioned not to drink the tap water in the DR, so we asked for bottled water at every meal. More often than not, the wait staff rolled their eyes and one waiter even told me he wouldn't bring it to me. Two days into our stay, I got what I can only imagine was some form of food poisoning and spent much of our visit vomiting. The system of not requiring or accepting reservations for the restaurants on property also makes no sense because when we arrived at different restaurants, we were told they had no availability. Finally, I contacted the resort ahead of our travel to inquire about airport transfers. Again, with a broken foot, I wanted a comfortable and private method of getting back and forth rather than a shuttle that made several stops. The hotel recommended using Nexus and provided a website. We prepaid for transfers to and from the resort. The trip there was fine. The return was a nightmare. They couldn't get the time straight and didn't return calls or emails. We went to the Nexus office on property and couldn't get a straight answer either. When we finally got through on the phone, the representative literally hung up on me. For the amount we paid, we expected a friendlier and easier vacation. What we experienced was frustrating and difficult. We won't be back.…
Just returned from an amazing week at this resort. The staff here are so friendly and helpful. They really will do whatever they can to help if you tip or not. They treated everyone the same from what we saw. We were DC and really enjoyed the perks. Our kids went to the splash Waterpark several times. Rosa took such great care of us booking our dinners and answering our questions. We ate at all the restaurants, but Oceanside for dinner. We didn't like the grill in the middle of the lazy river. Food was cold. We enjoyed all the different options at the buffet. The donuts in the morning were a fav for us. The a la cartes that we ate were delicious. My daughter can be picky and always found something to eat. The one big issue was on our last night at the buffet. My husband got some chicken from the grill to order. It was completely raw in the middle. We asked to speak to a manager to show them but no one came. Someone is going to get really sick, the cook needs to be more careful. Despite this, we wouldn't hesitate to go back. Just be careful eating chicken …
Had an amazing stay at the resort. The staff was super friendly, especially Rosa who helped us throughout our entire stay so we can relax without worries. She even got aloe cream for me to treat my sunburns. Very memorable trip!
I don't often write reviews, but I was inclined to after our tremendous trip to Royalton Bavaro. We had a great time and would highly recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing vacation. We were booked in a one bedroom presidential suite - if you are travelling with kids this is an amazing option! It's like having two rooms (two full washrooms!). We could not book Diamond club when were reserved, but opted to upgrade when we arrived. We received all the services just not the room location (which was fine for us). We are really happy we did upgrade as the additional services/pool/beach area were lovely. I am especially happy with the assistance we received from our butler, Julio Carpio! He was awesome! 10/10! Texted us each morning to see how we were doing, ask us if we needed anything and made dinner reservations for us each day to the restaurant of our choice. He was always available via What's App and always answered u spromptly with any requests. I would also like to give a shout out to all the bartenders at the two pool bars at the Diamond club pool. Always prompt service and always with a smile. The servers in the Diamond Club lounge were also awesome. I would go there for coffees every morning and by the third day, she new exactly what my order was without even asking! I always measure how happy we are with resorts by this question - would we go back? The answer to that is a very loud YES! …
Before I review my particular experience, I just want to say that your vacation is what you make of it. Royalton Bavaro is a beautiful resort. Some people will never be pleased, and some people will complain about everything. You have to expect that when people of different cultures, languages, or whatever get together. People can be rude, inconsiderate, or oblivious to others. That is going to happen anywhere. Don't sweat the small stuff. Am I going to let someone ruin my time, no way! Do I expect Michelin star food? No. But am I going to let one night of slow service ruin my trip... again, NO! I saw countless reviews prior to my trip and I just dont get it. If the steak wasn't good, then order the chicken. You didn't like one restaurant, go to another. The lady by one pool was smoking, go to another area. Stop complaining about things beyond your control. You spend your time and money to be with your friends and family, so do that. If you can accomplish that, your vacation will be amazing no matter what! This place is beautiful, and the people work hard! This resort was a wonderful time for me and my family. We spent 10 days and we opted for the Diamond club. Marcos was our assigned butler, and he was a great guy. He messaged us every morning to check on us. He also sent us the activities list daily and asked our preferences for dinner. Marcos also visited us in person at least once per day. Not to mention the countless times we saw him in passing. On our anniversary, he surprised us with decorations and a room banner. The tub was filled with bubbles. Very nice! Marcos was a definite highlight of our trip. At the Diamond Club pool, I have to shout out Alexander! He was such a cool guy, very attentive, and made awesome drinks! At the tail end of our trip, we decided to rent out the pool cabana for four days, so I didn't get to order from him as much but he still stopped by to see us and anytime i went to the bar he was there to take care of us. That brings me to our Cabana Server Carmelo. The four days we had the cabana were awesome. Yes, it was an extra expense but totally worth it not to have to find a spot every morning at the pool. Carmelo set our cabana up every morning and stocked the fridge. He also made sure he was there right at 12 to take our lunch order. We always had drinks delivered and Carmelo always had a smile! Restaurants were good. There was always something great on the menu. There were certain nights where what i ordered wasn't amazing but as I said. So what! Order something else. Don't order the same thing again. A huge highlight was the culinary experience. The chef was amazing, and staff was very good. We had a wonderful tasting menu! The lazy river was such a hit for my family. My eight-year-old loved the slides. So much fun and lots of pictures. The Flowrider was another highlight. It was offered for free 2x a day during certain times for DC. The guys working that were very good. At night all the shows were fun. Am I going to complain that the Michael Jackson show was the same show I have seen before at other resorts over the years? No, who cares? It is entertainment, sit back and make new memories. Enjoy the time, enjoy the music. Every night was a good time for us. Kids club was okay. My only complaint was that I wish it was a bit more organized. There were events listed that my daughter wanted to do so I dropped her at the kids club. When I picked her up, she was still there but never did the event. It seemed like the activities listed are just things that are happening. So, I would have to take her to the kids pool myself to do it versus the kid's club. So more like just babysitting service. But with all that she still had fun, the women were a pleasure, and she went back several times! The most fun was during the evening shows. I think that is one of the few times they physically leave the kids club together. While my husband and I were at the culinary experience, our kid was on stage dancing in the Dominican show! She couldn't stop raving about it. In closing, one of the better trips our family has had. Again, thank you to Marcos, Alexander, and Carmelo for all your hard work making sure we had a great time. And if you made it to the end of reading this, then you probably will have the same experience. If you stopped after the first paragraph, you are probably one of those difficult people I spoke of :) LOL! Go to the Royalton Bavaro! Make memories with your loved ones.…
