Great resort. Employees were super helpful (Thank you, Francisco for all your help!) and friendly. I got sick while I was there and went to the on-site clinic. The doctor, Gabriel, prescribed me antibiotics and I was on the road to recovery and could enjoy the vacation. There is a lot of variety of food. Breakfast was my favorite meal by far. Best fresh fruit EVER! Good variety. Rooms were clean and spacious. Bathrooms were updated and nice.

We are a multi-generation, extended family of 12 (8 adults, 4 children) who stayed 6 nights at the Royalton Bavaro in two separate two-bedroom Chairman’s Suites (20302+20402). Overall, we had a great stay at the resort, made particularly amazing by many of the hotel staff beginning with our butler Felix Felix (more on him below). I would rate my experience an 8.5 out of 10, details below: Resort The resort is quite large, shaped like a very tall U (beach at the top of the U, lobby/gym/restaurants at the bottom of the U). If you are diamond club, they offer golf cart shuttles to get around. I don’t have an issue with the walk but have heard others complain. The resort has 3 main pools and a substantial beach area – never had to reserve or fight for chairs. Bar services was fantastic – especially Niciana who literally did not allow my beverage to ever become empty. We spent most of our time at the Diamond Club pool, which has sun loungers located in the pool and a swim up bar. Jose was a great help, bringing us towels and helping us out through out the day. Pro tip – bring your own rafts and floats – the resort will blow them up for you. The other amenities are great – spent a ton of time in the lazy river and on the beach. The sports bar Scores makes great cocktails (best in the resorts). Casino is small but worth a stop. We played mini-golf once, but they are severely limited in balls and putters (we donated some balls to them at the end of the trip). Also worth a trip is the water park located at Memories next door – free for diamond club members. Shuttle tram from the lobby takes you there at 10am each day and brings you back at 1pm. My kids had a great time. Room The Royalton Bavaro has only 4 totals two-bedroom Chairman’s Suites located in building 20. 20102 (swim-up), 20202, 20302, and 20402. The suites are impressive as advertised and very well styled – we found it perfect for large extended families. Each suite has a pool table, living room, two huge rooms with beautiful bathrooms (including jetted tubs), and a hot tub on your huge (first floor has swim out pool v. hot tub). The large balcony overlooks the Diamond Club pool and has an amazing view of the ocean. Included in the room is an assigned butler who will help you with literally anything and everything – just a moment away via WhatsApp. Make sure you ask for Felix Felix who I believe is the hardest working person within the entire resort. The maid staff kept the room impeccably clean, and we had no problem with beverage replenishment each day. We particularly enjoyed ordering room service breakfast each day (via the TV) and eating as a family 30-45 minutes after ordering. On the negative side, there are only four of these suites at the resort. Although the resort is new (built in 2018) – the rooms get a bunch of traffic. We had a few issues with some maintenance issues (hot water, hot tub, leaky ceilings) but Felix was able to have them sorted by the maintenance staff in short order. Services The gym is great, offers many fitness classes and has plenty of cardio and weights. Felix arranged babysitting service for us from the wonderful Dulce, a mother of three who works at the Diamond Club desk. She watched our children twice during our stay so we could enjoy a kid free dinner. The cost was $20 per child per hour which was fair for a dinner in peace. Dulce was great with the kids and a very sweet lady! My wife, my mother, and my two sister in-laws enjoyed massages, pedicures, and facials at the Spa – booked through Alfredo (who was great to work with). My wife said the pedicure was the best she had ever had. Diamond club comes with a free hydro-therapy session which my Dad enjoyed quite a bit. Pro tip: If you have any type of spa credit, make sure you insist its applied at the beginning of the process – I had $300 of credits that they would not accept after the fact. We booked a private cabana for $80, and we’re helped by Ezekiel (who was fantastic). He made sure we were kept well fed, hydrated, and had anything we desired during our stay. We had a great Sunday watching NFL football on the TV and soaking in the hot tub. Only negative is that the entire Cabana (and Diamond Club Pool) becomes fully shady around 3pm due to the Winter Caribbean sun angle (the resort faces the North). We arranged a family photo shoot on the beach. Our photographer was fantastic with the children; 60% of the photos came out well – I wish he had taken a few more selects although they were well lit and framed correctly. The lady at the photo shop was very difficult to work with – unless you buy all of the photos taken as a package for ~$550, there is no way you can get the digital rights to the photos (only prints) – this was not conveyed when I booked the shoot. If you don’t pay them in cash they also charge you an 18% fee on top of this (also not conveyed). I would not do business with PhotoCaribbe every again. Restaurants We ate at each of the ala carte restaurants, all of the buffets, the food truck, and room service. The Zen Japanese steakhouse was a great experience of my children, our chef (missed his name) was fantastic and very entertaining. The Rio Brazillian steakhouse was very good, although I feel they only did one round of meat and did not come back around (despite having our more meat sign up). Hunter steakhouse was good as was the Grazie. Our least favorite was the Oceanside, strange menu with limited seafood options – hindsight, I would Despite good food and great service, we had a major issue eating as a family. To accommodate a family of 12 we were told we could only have dinner reservations at 6pm or 9pm – we chose 6pm, although it was a little too early for my liking. My major issue, besides the early dinner time, was that the Hunter steakhouse and the Oceanside restaurant insisted they could only sit us at two separate tables. Both restaurants were at 25% capacity during our entire meal. Pros - Hardworking, dedicated hotel staff – genuinely good people - Beautiful resort, kept very well maintained - Tons to do on the resort, you never need to leave! - Pool and beach side service were amazing Cons - If you require large groups to eat at set times, ALLOW THEM TO SIT TOGETHER! - Surf at Bavaro beach is rough when compared to other Caribbean beaches – the resort faces the north into the Atlantic Ocean. I’ve heard the Caribbean Sea side of the island is much calmer. - Seaweed – it’s a problem for the entire Dominican tourism industry. The resort does their best to clean it up every day

Paid for the "Diamond Club Service" and was told to get my new arm band the next day. I came back and wanted to eat breakfast and was told the new arm bands were not ready. I said since I paid can I eat here and was told no go to the lobby and the young lady laughed as she said it. I ask for a full refund and I made a complaint. Rooms were not very clean and I needed new bed linen because it had stains on it. The rooms were not as big as the picture. Will not be returning. Ever.

This was our first time at a Royalton resort and Royalton Bavaro was the most beautiful resort we’ve been to. We travelled with our adult daughter and her boyfriend. Keep in mind this is a very large resort and you will doing a lot of walking to get anywhere. Everything was very clean and the staff did a great job of keeping it clean. We opted to eat outside every chance we had as the restaurants are very loud. We ate at all the restaurants and buffets and the food and service was good. I had to keep reminding myself that we are on island time and nothing happens quickly. Check-in took a long time, it took over an hour just to book our Covid test, and no matter how much you tip getting a drink on the beach is a waiting game. But you’re on a beach, so it’s not a bad place to wait! This is a family resort and there are a lot of babies and kids. I would opt for an adult only resort next time I’m sure it’s written somewhere but it would have been nice for a bold reminder that there is a US$20 cash fee per person to leave the Dominican. It was a surprise for us at the airport and thankfully the person in front of us had extra US$ and we did a quick money exchange with him.
