We did not get the chance to stay in this location because even though we had a booking number from our tour agent, the owners of Marari told first there is no reservation on our names, and then they changed their minds saying there was a reservation, but they did not receive the payment. We paid for beach front room, instead they offered a workaround, with rooms faar from the beach, small and not at the same value as the one we've booked (around 6500 INR). The disappointment came with the fact the lady who owns the place did not even wanted to talk to our agent, she was passing the responsibility to us, and making us the intermediates. We believe this is not they way customers shall be treated. As a customer, after spending 10 hours getting there, the last thing I need is to be the one talking to both the owner and the agent to get us stay in the room we've booked. In the end we had to search for another hotel at 10 pm since they kept changing their minds, saying next day they will give us the room we've booked, to the fact they don't have it available at all. My expectation was to get a room at the same value, not less.Hope nobody will go though this again.

We stayed here for 2 nights in an AC room on the first floor. The room was big and the balcony was nice with a lovely view of the sea. However, the price of the room was quite high considering that a lot of the room was quite run down and in need of a facelift / clean. The property itself is set back about 50 metres from the beach, but has a clear view with just a few palm trees in the way. The rooms are big, with plenty of cupboard space. The AC and fan were both very good. (The non-AC rooms only have a standard desk fan, but may be better value for money) The balcony is shared with the neighbouring room, but there’s a nice little wooden divider you can pull across to give you a bit of separation. We were lucky not to have neighbours when we stayed, and so were able to book private yoga teacher to teach us on our balcony. Jasmine, her family and all the staff were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely. However, it wasn’t great value for 3,500. We were fine with the room and don’t mind a bit of rust and dust around a place. But it’s only since we’ve stayed in 4 or 5 other places around Kerala that we realised how expensive this place was for what you get. As it was the first place we went to we didn’t know otherwise. The floor and bedding etc were perfectly clean, but other things like the ceiling fan and bathroom windows were caked with dust. We think it’s probably one of the higher end places to stay in Marari as all the other places we walked past on the beach looked more basic. (Apart from the big expensive resort) And there isn’t as much competition in Marari, so that may be why prices are higher. There wasn’t any food available in the evenings so we walked to their friend’s restaurant which is about a 7 min walk towards the main road, but after that we went to places along the beachfront. Overall, we had a nice stay in a very nice spot on Marari Beach. Just adjust your expectations downward if you’re expecting something you could get for 3,000 in another part of Kerala.

We had a lovely week on Marari Beach as usual, it is definitely one of our favourite holidays spot. But having tried different options around throughout the years, we are not that green anymore when it comes to accomodations and activities. So, we loved the location, and looking at the ocean from our bed. But we were disappointed at several things such as the overall value for money. The shower was dripping a few drops and termperature of the water was always very unsure. The A/C and the Wifi were pretty much of the same sort, working for one hour then out of function for a long while, I understand this is the beach side, this is Kerala, this is India. But with a certain price comes a certain level of service. And there it was all to the minimum. On top of that we constantly felt like being a bother. From the day we booked and had troubles having answers to our simple questions from Austin, until the day we left and felt a bit like everyone was releived, which we never felt anywhere else before... Last comment: the front of the house is a bit of garbage, a bit of firepit, a bit of laundry drying place and is not at all what you would expect from a place where once again you pay 60€ a night for basic service but supposedly a splendid view. It does actually sort of ruin it. All in all we had a great time because we were so happy to be back to that place we love that is Marari, but it could have been a whole lot better.

This is a great place. It's bang on the beach and the rooms are overlooking the sea. Try to book the first floor rooms for better view and privacy. We did that but due to some communication gap with travel agent we ended up in the ground floor room. Still not many regrets. The veranda was a great place to sit relax, read a book, look at the sea or the coconut trees. It's a breezy lovely veranda. The host couple Austin and Jasmine make you feel very comfortable. Simple and good breakfast. On request Jasmine and her mother will cook you a delicious dinner as well. We stayed for just one night. If we get another chance we will start longer on one of the first floor rooms.

We stayed here for nearly a week and enjoyed beautiful views, warm sea and great breakfasts (lovely omelettes!). The rooms were very cool (aircon) and looked right onto the beach. We saw humped backed dolphins and bats. There are a few crows around and they will try and pinch your food if left unattended on the balcony! There was a Christian celebration/festival going on whilst we were there and were able to watch from our balcony - lots of colour and candlelight. The only criticism of Austin's was that they kept switching off the wifi which I needed for work so I had to keep asking them to switch it back on. There might have been a reason for this but I did not ask why this was. Jasmine and her mum were very welcoming and friendly - the rooms were clean and fresh. They were very helpful with sorting a taxi for our trip back to the airport. There are not many places to eat nearby - the best place we found had only recently opened (from Austins go to the beach and turn right, walk along until you get to the next street on your right and it is up there a little on the left.

We stayed there one night and found this place when our other booking got cancelled. It’s the perfect place to stay in marari beach, quiet and clean place with an amazing view. It’s right in front of the beach. We stayed on the first floor with quite spacious room with a big balcony. The host, she is very kind and attentive, breakfast was the best we had in Kerala with cardamom tea:) Thanks

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Marari Austin Beach Villa and I know that one day, hopefully soon, we will return. So Jasmine, you and the family will be making more pots of delicious Munar tea again - I can assure you a thoroughly superior brew. We were so well looked by Austine and his lovely family. The Villa is down a lane inaccessible to cars and this means that there is a lovely feeling of seclusion. Don't worry though because someone will help you with your bags. The accommodation was clean and very spacious, we especially enjoyed having the balcony to ourselves to enjoy the sunset view. Each morning we were served a hearty breakfast at a time of our choosing. I can recommend the evening meals - especially the prawns and the fish - all at very reasonable prices. The beach is very clean and quiet: it was easy to secure some sun beds for the duration of the stay. This is a lovely place to stay and relax after visiting the more hectic Indian places. Thoroughly recommended, The Williams Family.

The second homestay we've stayed at in Cochin so not loads to go on. Our first was really clean, had strong AC, TV and tea making facilities. Those are the weak points at Austin's – the AC is high up in the room and only seems to kick in in the night which to be fair is when we need it most. No TV or tea making. If we needed water we bought refrigerated bottles at 40p from Austin. They also made us the lovely tea we got in the morning later in the day too if we wanted. The place was clean enough (and good for Indian standards) but not spotless. Would have benefitted from the lovely big windows being cleaned so you could see the amazing view better from inside the room. The fast internet which we didn't have at our previous homestay was really welcome and we were able to watch Netflix with the kids in the evening. Austin and his family are friendly and really lovely (hence the 5 star review) and will do anything for you. When searching around we found we were paying about 1000 rupees per night more for the sea view which none of the surrounding Homestays seemed to have. This included beds on the floor for our two boys (8 and 11). It made a special difference and was well worth it. There was a nice spacious balcony with views of the sea and the homestay garden below and it was really pleasant to sit out at. Breakfast is brought to the table on the balcony outside your room and consisted of toast with coconut oil, jam, omelette, a pot of chai and a glass of mango juice. Perfect. Go to Neena next door for lunch and evening meals. It's best to order the food a couple of hours or earlier in the day so they know how much water and fresh fish (straight off the boat) they'll need for you. As Neena is a homestay too there aren't any reviews for it as a cafe unfortunately. We found it a lot better than the places further up the beach which were good, but just not as special and homely. 690 rupees for 5 different vegetable curries, 2 fish curries, rice, bananas and water is the cheapest meal we've had so far in Kerala. Austin's brother has a modern Tuk Tuk and drove us to Allepey and back for a boat trip (1400 rupees there and back, it's a fair way). He also organised a driver and car for our long trip to the Western Ghats at the end of our stay. We stayed for 3 nights and wish it had been a day or two longer. We'd highly recommend people to stay at Austin's, especially families. Really hope to be back.

Myself and my partner had the pleasure of staying here over New Years 2017, by far the best place I’ve stayed in India! Extremely welcoming, kind and friendly family, they couldn’t do more for you. Rooms were perfect plus you have an amazing view of the beach. Defiantly worth a visit.
