#5 of 52 in Mararikulam
Heritage Marari, a boutique resort with four traditionally built Keralian houses (Tharawad, restored and recreated) located ten minutes from Marari beach. The rooms have beds and furniture that we've sourced from traditional homes and the famed craftsmen of the region. Furnishings too rely on local materials, offset with linen, rough-woven cotton and other natural fabrics. Our promise is to provide as much care, comfort and peace you would get in a star-rated hotel, with the personal and sociable touch that is synonymous with Home Stays. Your host Bruce is always available to help you settle comfortably in your rooms. Being a local from a well respected family, he brings you tales of the bygone generations and can guide you through the soul of this fishermen's village called Marari. Ours is the only property around Marari which is on the backwaters and has access to the beach directly by canoe and by foot.

This place is quiet, offers a good quality basic stay. The host is extremely nice and helpful. I enjoyed the traditional Indian food in the evening. The place has a good location to explore Marari and the backwaters.

Very impressed by Bruce's hospitality. He is doing a wonderful job by creating and maintaining this beautiful place for us. He gave us the opportunity to be so close to the Nature. And the beach so close! Got some amazing photos of the sea and the sun! My kids' exclamation that we have entered into the Paradise said it all! And after 2 nights' stay the kids don't want to leave!

First of all no t.v... second no pool..no fridge too, most importantly no shampoo " cant believe it we are near a beach and no shampoo, asked for it and they tell me it's a home stay...that's why I guess no shampoo .. I booked a four star package iris tours.. all hotels were great in our tour but this one is ranked worse just for the amenities... it's ok if you want to go back 100 years and have AC bed , light, American style toilet and shower..

This place is a real treasure... away from busy streets, traffic etc. The host, Bruce, is a wonderful man, calm and open. Happy to explain about the history as well as the excellent Kerala food he cooks for his guests. So yummi!!! The rooms are wonderful and cozy. In less than 10 min walking distance there is an excellent beach with warm and very clean water- no other tourists there... only some local and very friendly fishermen. So if you like to enjoy sounds of nature, relax and be happy- this is the place to come to. Sadly we only had one night there... would have loved to stay longer!

Very excellent calm and cool place. Feel like HOME atmosphere and excellent ambience. Especially very big Thanks to Mr.Bruce who is the incharge and proprietor there. Very helpful and coperative. Property is very close to highway but you will never get any disturbance of the same as well very silent place. Food prepared are excellent and nice. Cottages and rooms are very nature oriented and excellent. I wil definitely suggest this place for anyone looking for a peaceful stay near to Marari beach. Was a very cool place for a good family gathering with good ambience and facility.

spent a week with my wife. Had a great time. Bruce is a very careful manager. Explained all meals in details. Could assist a cookery class. Food is one of the best we had in Kerala. 5* cook. Accommodation was very good. Nice cottages, typical Kerala style, made of local resources. Location very good, directly on the shore of a small river leading to the beach. Can book canoe to visit the beach or hire bikes. 5' ride to different beaches. All of them superb, clean, endless, wide. Unforgettable stay. We'll be back next year. Thanks Bruce and staff for a relaxed holiday. Just details to be cared of: Dust on the fan. Please remove old carpet.

Dear Sir Thank you very much for your valued comments. I am very happy that you have covered almost all services. We have noticed the dust on the fan, we apologise for not having seen it earlier. We have cleaned it, and it looks too good and has clean & cool air. With regard to carpet, which we have only in the top two rooms, we have already taken decision to remove it and will be replaced with wooden flooring. This should be done by April end o beginning of May as we are holding booking until that time. We shall send you a picture of our new floorings and clean fans ☺ . Thank you again Best wishes from Team Heritage Marari

3 pairs of us stayed in the smaller rooms for 2 days and had a lovely time. The food was very good. The rooms are nice. The staff is very helpful. If you get up early enough, you can take a 10 minute walk to the fish market and see the fisherman coming in and auction their fish. The beach nearby is lovely. Locals are very friendly. Thanks for a lovely time, Heritage Marari!

Bruce and his Team were very kind, extremly welcoming and helpful. Furthermore the authentically rebuilt "Kerala houses" are beautiful and of higher standards than many much more expensive hotel rooms. We particulary enjoyed the bigger bungalows close to the waterfront. Marari Heritage is not directly at the beach, however its a short and charming walk through the palm groves. We also enjoyed being more remote than other alternatives in the area. Bring a good book and you will have a great time reading it next to the birds fishing in the backwaters. The food was outstanding, probably the best we had in India. They cooked fresh delicious food every day, getting all the ingredients directly from the daily market. To sum it up: Lovely place with delicous food, run by very nice people! - we truly enjoyed it.

I enjoyed the dinning a lot! Room and garden area are well designed. In general I enjoyed my stay. It’s very near to beach and local fish market in early morning. There are bikes in the hotel and it’s a good idea to ride a bike around the neighborhood.
