My group of 8 stayed at Kite Beach December 27, 2005 to January 5, 2006 and had a good time except for a couple inconveniences. First, the hotel is cash only, all reservation cost must be paid at the time of check-in in cash. The staff is not generous with towels, some days I returned to my room and only had a single bath towel. Some rooms don't have telephones which only work between rooms anyway. There is a public phone available in the lobby for local and international calls. You can however connect your laptop to the Internet at the bar 24 hours a day. The property is small and located on the beach and located two kilometers from downtown which allows guest to enjoy quietness in evening hours.

I recently had the pleasure to visit Cabarete, my first visit to The D.R. After researching hotel options, I made a reservation at The Kite Beach Hotel and I am extremely pleased with that decision! I would definitely go back to Cabarete and stay here again! I choose KBH because it was not an all-inclusive , it was located on the beach and NOT located in town, it was kind of - off the beaten path if you will - - From the moment I arrived, I felt extremely comfortable here. It was easy to get there from Puerta Plata Airport; i had pre-arranged for the hotel sent a taxi to meet me. The driver was waiting for me with a sign as I walked out of the airport, the transfer could not have been easier. The KBH is outside of town with a only a few other hotels sharing the beach in our immediate area, it has a very excluded - private feel to it. The staff at KBH was fantastic! Dario at the front desk - - who, seems to ALWAYS be there & on duty is an absolute first class gentleman & extremely helpful, what a great ambassador! The rest of the staff from the restaurant located right on the beach, next to the pool is very friendly and accommodating. They speak very little English and I - - attempt to speak a little Spanish - - so it was all good -- definitely enough to get by! They serve up a very decent breakfast which is included with your stay - lunch was also very good. I didn't have dinner there and you cannot get a colder Presidente anywhere on the island. Don't be mistaken - - this is very important in The D.R.!! . I contacted the hotel directly through their website to book my reservation & have to mention the wonderful Janina in reservations was such as pleasure to deal with directly via: email while booking this vacation. Janina was extremely helpful to answer all of my questions , describe the different accommodations available, was just delightful to deal with. I had never previously been a guest, but felt like I was a long time returning customer; what a pleasure! I believe my room was located in a 'newer' building which, has interesting art on the walls both outside in the common areas & inside the room. The hotel in general seemed pretty clean. However, considerably more attention could be given to picking up "stuff" especially cigarette butts, which i witnessed other guests just throw on the ground around the hotel & on the beach was really gross to me. If this was a NON smoking hotel, even if only in the common areas like the restaurant; would be so much more desirable to me! Upon my arrival to my room was "a suite" with the balcony overlooking the pool & ocean, what a view, the breeze - was just spectacular! The room itself was O K - - However, for "a suite" the furnishings were fair to "so so" - at best - the bed was uncomfortable, had two OLD & poor quality pillows. I made the mistake to attempt to move the couch on my balcony so it would face the ocean - - this was NOT a good idea, as the floor beneath it has never been cleaned before, was VERY gross - so i just NEVER moved that couch! - - For me however, it was the view from the balcony & the sound of the ocean - - was worth the price of admission alone - - to which i already mentioned - - excellent value! I was a bit put off, my room did not have a safe which i thought was pretty standard for all hotel rooms - - However, i realized by my second day there, i did not need a safe in my room - - in fact - - many people don't lock the doors to the rooms, leave their balcony doors open all day & night and there doesn't seem to be issues - - just gotta get out of NY & Chill!! I wound up leaving my wallet - passport & $ with Dario in the hotel safe. I think the hotel management could do more to make me feel comfortable about the safety of my personal belongings in my room, nonetheless. This is a casual place, families with kids - - guests bring their dogs ( i personally love all that stuff!) people of all ages - young families to retirees - - Americans, South Americans, Europeans, Canadians - - everyone i spoke with was friendly. I was traveling solo & met people at the hotel, who I had dinner with almost every night and made some new friendships - - it was more than I could ever imagine to come out of a weeks' vacation!
I do not kite surf, which seems to be the primary reason visitors come to KBH in the first place. In fact, I knew almost nothing about kite surfing prior to my trip, If you do not kite surf but are interested to learn, this seems to be the place to come & learn - - the staff here at Kite Beach will teach you, personalized lessons are available. However - - I am just "one of those people" with NO business attempting to stand on a board with a kite attached to myself - - NO way, LOL !!!

We stayed recently at this hotel,we had read the reviews of the hotel options in the area and chose this one as it was right on  the beach and my husband wanted to kite board and kite excite is attached to the hotel. The hotel has a very pleasant and relaxing atmosphere overlooking a great stetch of beach, which gives you easy access to walk into the local village about 2 miles away. There are various room options which need to be carefully looked at,we had checked this before arrival via one of the other reviews the main problem is there is one building that is defiantly superior looking than the others with large balconies over looking the pool and sea ahead we had Specifically paid more and requested a room with a view in the updated building on arrival we were given a very large one bedroom apartment with a tiny balcony, though the room iis self was tidy it didn't look like it had  been dusted in recent times the linen and towels were fresh though the mini kitchen had a rusty fridge grante counters that didn't seem to have seen any granite cleaner in awhile so looked dull, the taps and shower heads where all full of limescale and therefore didn't work well.we did ask to be moved and were told they would have to contact the owner in Germany so nothing could be done untill the following day,the following day we inquired again and were told we could move to an alternative apartment which was even bigger it had two bedrooms which we were told we must not use the one room which didn't both us and we had a large balcony overlooking the sea, again the room was tidy and basically clean, the main problem is lack of detailed cleaning and a number of things needed to be mended cracked tiles lose towel rails etc,I think the kitchen, though I had no intentions of cooking whilst on holiday, would have been nice to have some basic equipment like glasses bottle opener plates knife fork and spoon etc,and the fridges should not be rusty,we have been to plenty of other carribean areas so I know it's nothing to do with the tropical air, another useful thing would be to have an airer with pegs ( as it can be quite windy) to hang washing on. The day after would changed apartments we were told as we had moved into a different apartment we would have to pay an extra $20 dollars a night,we felt this was very unfair having requested and paid for a room with a view when we booked( via expedia) in the end we reluctantly paid $10 dollars extra a night, though felt scammed  The local village of cabarete has  Some good restaurants and the usual touristy shops banks and supermarket there is a very nice bakery on the way in.the locals seem very friendly though people selling things out suitcases are annoying they keep trying to get you to buy nic knacks, hair brading and massages ,though they weren't nasty or anything it's nice to walk around without being harassed all the time, they seem to be licensed though as they all wear blue shirts. Although we had a pleasant holiday, we probably wouldn't go back. The kite excite group attached to the hotel provided an excellent kiting experience for my husband,we would highly recommend them.

We booked online and were promised (by email confirmation) a "2-bedroom deluxe apartment on the ground floor in our newer building, oceanfront and with a big terrace with very nice ocean view". We arrive, pay the room - they wanted cash at check-in ! - somebody walked us to our room - and I was horrified! First of all it was in the old complex, not oceanfront, it was a couple of steps below ground-floor, so the windows were tiny strips close to the ceiling, no balcony and the rooms smelled moldy! So we immediately took our luggages and walked back to the reception, I told them that this room was unacceptable and that I would either get the promised delux room or my money back - so they called the manager - what a slimy-BS-talking guy! So first he is vague, he doesn't understand the problem, I show him the printed email with what was confirmed, now he says that they had a waterleak in the room that was reseved for us - so I asked for a differnt room in the new building - 10 more minutes slimy talk till he finally admitted that he doesn't have any free rooms left in the new building - so I say ok, then please give me my money back, I will not stay - we had a 5 minute stand-off - akeward! - till they FINALLY gave me my money back. MAYBE the rooms in the new building are better than then one we saw, BUT the managment is aweful! (luckily we found a very nice alternative place to stay in Cabarete, see my review of the Watermark hotel!).

I'm staying in a nice ocean front apartment for a month now with my wife and baby boy. I have no words to describe the disrespectful owner and management. for a MONTH! everyday same thing NO HOT WATER, they say: in one hour it will work, tomorrow it will work, is it working? no! EVERY DAY they knock on my door disturbing, is it working now? NO! I can't shower my child, I can't take a shower, so to ask him to take one? This place is super OLD, most of the apartment are in really bad shape! POOL looks terrible, restaurant looks dirty and food is bad. no price in the world would bring me back to this 1 star hotel! PLEASE I REALLY ASK YOU! the only way this hotel will learn is by stop earning $$$ DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE!

Perfect Kite conditions. The hotel needs an upgrade regarding almost everything. Including some service cources to the staff. We were there for 13 days and lived in 3 different rooms. Strange that the best room was the cheapest. Not that I expect luxury, but it seems that this hotel can treat their guests with arrogance due to its many visitors that like the beach and wind conditions. Restaurant was poor and expensive. But nice place to enjoy a drink after kiteing sessions.

I spent my first night in Cabarete at the Kite Beach Hotel. Clearly it was once a very nice property. But everything from the rooms, to the pool, to the restaurant has aged and not been well maintained. The property is right on the beach and the size and layout of the rooms are very nice. I had a 2 bedroom suite on the 3rd floor with an ocean facing balcony. The problem however, is that many of the amenities in the room are in a state of disrepair. The master bed room toilet had no top for the water tank and the handle was missing, so you had to reach in and pull the chain to flush the toilet. Of the 3 TVs in the suite, only one was working. Each bedroom had an air conditioner but neither of them worked very well. I won't list every little thing but you can get the idea. Throughout the property there is no attention to detail and a general lack of maintenance.
Additionally the hotel is not really within walking distance to the town, all though when I called ahead of my reservation I was told that it was. Its probably about a 25-30 minute walk to the town center, which would be doable on a better road. But the road to town is poorly lit, has fast moving traffic and areas with no shoulder.
Finally, given the current state of the property the prices are really out of line with others in the area. We moved after our first night and were able to find a selection of nicer properties closer to the town center and still on the beach for the same or cheaper prices.

This is best for kiters that don't care much about the room. Room not clean, refrigerator needed defrosting, shower not working and beds had dirty sheets upon arrival. Some furniture broken. Was all fixed after some serious complaining, but these were long standing problems, not recent.
The restaurant is just OK and expensive for what is served, but convenient. Beer is RD$120! Way too much for this location. Again, best for kiters who are never in the room and like the location for the sport.

My girfriends and I (5 of us in total) went on a kiteboarding trip May 25-June 1 2012. After staying two nights in another nearby hotel which was filthy and threatened to ruin our vacation, we swirched to Kite Beach Hotel. This hotel is very clean, comfortable, and air conditioned... and located right on kite beach...the central part of the action if you like to kiteboard. There is a free breakfast buffet daily for hotel guests which includes juice, coffee, toast, muffins, fresh fruit, ham, cheeses and eggs/omlettes cooked to order. After loading up, you can head right out to the pool and wait for the wind to pick up for kiting. The restaurant that is attached to the hotel is great because they let you run a tab, so you never have to carry your cash to the beach. The staff is extremely friendly. They will help call cabs/motos, suggest restaurants, and just generally make you feel well cared for. When we were there the owner invited us on a dinner trip she had arranged for hotel guests to Blue Moon, an indian restaurant about a half hour from Cabarete where diners sit in a big tent and are served traditional indian dishes, eaten with our hands on banana leaves. It was amazing and we got to meet other guests and kiteboarders which made for a really great time :)

Just returned from an AWESOME vacation at Kite Beach Hotel and my only disappointment is that I wasn't able to stay longer.
Contrary to some of the reviews I have read here, the ENTIRE staff went out of their way to make sure we were happy, and did an amazing job of making us feel welcome and addressing our every need with a smile. The gem of this hotel is Janina, who greeted us immediately upon arrival and made sure we were happy with our accomodations. As other reviews have mentioned, she made herself available any time we needed advice, and recommended several excursions (Blue Moon restaurant in the mountains, canyoning - a MUST DO). She selflessly ensured our every need was met with a smile and sweetness that shows she truly loves her job - a rare quality these days!
The hotel serves a nice breakfast every morning included in the room cost and we found it to be more than adequate - fresh local fruit and eggs cooked to order with an array of add-ins if desired. Coffee and juices were great.
Rooms are nicely appointed and cleaned very well daily and are more than adequate for the price. Beds are firm, in-room AC worked well and the furniture was comfortable. But we didn't spend much time in our room other than to sleep, as the allure of Cabarete is a unique international crowd drawn to some of the best kiting in the world, and if you venture out, the most lush and breathtaking scenery I have ever seen coupled with friendly people. Kite Beach Hotel is well situated to experience all of that. As a bonus we got first class treatment from this awesome staff who helped in every way possible to make our trip unforgettable.
For a few pesos, the local kids are helpful if you want help with your kiting gear. We took advantage of this - our gear was readied daily and you were kiting minutes after stepping foot on the beach.
I will be returning as soon as possible, and plan to bring my entire family with me.

Hello Kayla,
Thank you very much for your interest in Kite Beach Hotel.
In the mornings you can definitely sit on the beach. As you already noted, during the daytime there is some kite Action, but we have a large garden and pool area with deck chairs and it's always nice and warm.
Another plus is that the wind keeps insects away.
You are welcome to send us an email with any questions you might have.
Kind regards,
Janina
Pleas know I am referring to Kite Beach Hotel only NOT Coral Blanco - - although I think its SOP at all the hotels - - just NOT all inclusive resorts have a NO guest policy
