The Viva Tangerine by Wyndham has garnered mixed reviews, with guests appreciating the hotel's prime location near the beach and airport, as well as its spotless environment. The energetic atmosphere is a hit for many, though some find the music too loud. While the staff's friendliness is often praised, critiques arise over the perceived value, pointing to unexpected costs and subpar food. Room cleanliness receives accolades, yet dated decor and maintenance issues have been flagged. Amenities generally satisfy, despite the occasional lack of hot water and unwanted solicitations for presentations.

The property is older, but it is absolutely dripping with charm. The workers there are all so friendly and helpful, everyone from the cleaners, groundskeepers, servers, and animation staff.

The room was basic, but had a fridge stocked with a couple bottles of water each day, lots of towels, toilet paper, etc. It was very clean. I did not see one mosquito on the entire trip. Maybe it's that nice north coast breeze that keeps them away.

We were in room 3322, 3rd floor, you could see and hear the ocean waves, and see the pool. We didn't need air conditioning at all, just kept the balcony door open 24/7, and slept like babies. Well, we tried the AC once just to check it out, and it was very strong and very cold, so it works well.

We walked all along the beach, it's about a 12-minute walk to get to the famous strip of restaurants on the beach in downtown Cabarete. The lights in the trees at night there are magical, very romantic. And the food at the restaurants is just incredible, very high quality, similar to Yorkville in Toronto. In a 30-minute walk along the beach, you may pass 3 people along the way, it's so empty. You can walk to the end of Kite beach going West from the resort, it's a good hour-long walk, just beautiful.

We didn't eat at any a-la-carte restaurants at the resort, just the buffet, which had a good enough variety for us. We're not that picky with the food. Drinks were plentiful, no worries there.

After a heavy rainfall one night, we decided to go to Sosua the next day for fun. We took a guagua (the local bus), costs $50 Pecos per person, roughly $3 Canadian. It had to let everyone off at one point because there was a river over the road, and the bus couldn't cross. A local guy in a nice GMC truck waved us to join him, and he drove us right to Sosua beach for free! He wouldn't accept any money. The people here are soooo nice!

Cabarete has such a laid-back bohemian feel, with all the kite surfers, beach vendors, locals and tourists.

The swimming pools are perfect, they obviously take pride in keeping everything clean. The bus ride from the airport is a quick 15-minute trip. I would definitely recommend Viva Tangerine to everyone, whether you want some adventure, or just a laid back vacation.

My friends and I had an awesome vacation at the Viva Tangerine resort!
The Pros: The service (staff was 10/10--bartenders, custodians, entertainment crew all went above and beyond), the location (right on the beach, beautiful sand and ocean views, great waves/water for body surfing and kite surfing), the layout (central pool with two bars, easy to find all the restaurants and activities), the food (plentiful options for everyone at the buffet and 3 offered restaurants), the activities (nightly entertainment, disco/club, bocce, darts, bingo, water aerobics, volleyball, crazy games, foam parties, etc.). All in all, it felt very safe and secluded, even though it's close to Puerto Plata and located in a pretty urban area. We had a super fun time!!!
The Cons: An airport shuttle is not included (despite what it says on the Wyndham website), the rooms are... dilapidated and could use some repair, and a $50 cash deposit is required to rent out game materials (like tennis racquets, pool balls/sticks, and ping pong paddles, even though all the materials are also falling apart). The resort also doesn't offer things like snorkeling equipment, paddle boards, kayaks, etc. (though free intro kite surfing lessons are offered!). Lastly, the app did not work for anyone in our party, so we had to go to the front desk in-person every day to make our dinner reservations.
Luckily, dinner reservations weren't too hard to get, even though the resort was apparently fully booked. It definitely didn't feel like it! We were always able to find tables and pool/beach chairs fairly easily! And oftentimes we were the only people participating in the activities. That's just the way we like it, so we were pretty much as happy as can be!

Family trip.
Smiling, helpful staff, constant entertainment, even for children, food in abundance, beautiful beach for swimming, and what about the kite surfing, a spectacle, very clean complex, only positive for having traveled to several places..
A little advice to people who give negative comments, please refrain and look at the value for money and the effort made by the staff who do everything possible to make our trip an exceptional memory.
By the way when you leave no tip PCQ you think that everything is included you deserve to stay at home.
Thank you to all the members of this complex, don’t give up and see you soon!!!

The worst vacation we ever had in Dominican by far! We went for 10 days over Christmas holidays and upon arrival were shown our room which was an absolute disaster. It was run down and nothing like in the photos so asked for another which was better, but still quite "used". Hot water is at a premium in your room during any time during the day so we took to showering very early in the morning. The buffet was less than adequate, very repetitive, and the morning "chef" had to be bribed daily (1 or 2 USD) to get a few pieces of cooked bacon out from under his grill where it was hidden. Only 1 pool on site which got very cloudy after a few days but thankfully they loaded it with chemicals and it became swimmable again. The "hot tub" was never hot and in fact was colder than the pool and unusable. There is only 1 bar, and although my wife and I aren't big drinkers, we did want to try a cocktail or 2 and there was always a large line and if you haven't paid extra for top-shelf alcohol, you're getting watered down drinks. Out of the a la carte restaurants, we found the Italian was the best of the lot so booked it a couple of times. Oh, you're assinged a "concierge" upon arrival but when you decide you don't want to go to their presentation to buy a Wyndham time share, that service literally disappears. On the brighter side, the staff did try very hard to accommodate, and, the beach was beautiful. Apparently, Choice Hotels have bought the Wyndham resorts and I can understand why Wyndham sold rather than facelift the premises. Will NEVER return!

We had several problems with the room:
-it is located next to the septic tanks, there are smells not very pleasant that is given off!
-sink cap defective before our arrival, we made 3 requests, no repair was made, impossible to wash our clothes!!
-Said shampoo, is not champoing, from the first wash, our hair became extremely greasy and impregnable, we had to go buy real shampoo!!!
-there are 4 of us in the room, we had two towels no washcloth, 2 bottles of water. We made the request increased to 4 bottles, 4 towels and 4 washcloths. Which was done the second day. Finally, we had to ask every day, not normal, we do not have to run to have service, all despite the tip!!!
-on the evening of the second day, we ran out of body soap, so we completed our showers with our soap, thinking that the next morning the pump would be filled, but no, we left very early for our activity and returned at the end of the day, the soap was not filled.
Let’s talk about the beds very unstable, on the 8 legs of the beds, none were straight, which made them very unstable. (Photo) and no structure to extend the clothes.
-Let's talk now about the blue towels of swimming pools, extremely difficult to exchange them (there was never one available, had to watch the cart because 3 minutes later having more), we managed to change them on the fifth day!!!!
-beach: only one activity is available at this hotel: volleyball 1 court, swimming pool for 304 rooms still barely, no catamaran: they do not know how it works! Kayac forgets that, impossible to pass the waves.
Beach hotel: hotel is east-west facing, so sun from 10:00 - 14:00 on the beach, swimming pool 10:00 - 15:00, beach outside the hotel (200 feet) not well maintained, (algae, waste, cork, glass, ...)
-Hotel: from 07:00, trimming with petrol trimmer, and another day, pressure machine for outdoor carpet!!!
We also have them problems several times regarding the room cards that demagnetized (4 times), they told us its your cell phones, but no, since one day activity, we did not bring our cells. and the card is also disabled!!!!

I came to this family hotel with my mother and my children looking for a place to rest and that the children can enjoy, really just one day here did not exceed my expectations, n
Activities: 2/10 there is nothing for children, it is more a place for adults who want to come and be on the beach and the pool because they don't even have to rest, we are in the main building and it is impossible to rest because the people from the club vacation since 7:30am, they are already making noise in the hallway,
Cleanliness 2/10 The room was delivered to me without toilet paper and even though there were 4 of us they only gave us towels for 2, on three occasions with only one day here the Lima staff has entered 3 times without knocking on the door, or at least without follow the standard which is to knock on the door 3 times, and wait to be granted access,
Food, 1/10, buffet zero variety, lunch has been horrible, my children have only eaten pizza and my mother and I have vegetables, I understand that we are in low season, but for the number of people in the hotel the food really is not It is what I expected, the mini bar only has two water, there are no coffee makers in the room or cups to drink coffee or anything, worse than a passing hotel,
Only one pool, which if you travel with a small child you will not be able to leave alone because it is very deep

This place is really not for children.

My husband and I stayed at the Wydham Tangerine for 7 days in March 2023. Check in was quick, and we were escorted to our rooms right away. The rooms were mediocre, the AC did not work at all which left no reprieve from the heat and made sleeping difficult. There also was no fridge in the room so any drinks we bought at the shop quickly became warm.

Housekeeping came daily but did not clean up any of our empty bottles or garbage. Many times, housekeeping would come by very early when we were still asleep, and if we turned them away, they would not come back. I also found housekeeping and grounds staff were often yelling very loudly back and fourth early in the morning which made sleeping in impossible.

We were usually able to find loungers at the beach but received CONSTANT heckling by the locals. There was never an hour when we sat in peace without being disrupted (even if we were reading or sleeping). We have been to Mexico, Jamaica, Cuba, Bahamas, and so on and have never received this level of heckling. It made us not want to go to the beach at all.

The food at the buffet was repetitive but decent. There was always lots of options even though they were the same every night. The juice was terrible, but the smoothies were great. The A La Carte restaurants were good, but we were only allowed to book three times during our stay which was unfortunate considering they were rarely busy. There was a great Italian restaurant near the beach that we enjoyed (they had great frozen drinks), however it was not included in the all-inclusive and was very expensive.

The biggest disappointment of the trip would definitely be the alcoholic beverages. They only served drinks in small plastic cups, and the cups were often not well cleaned. All of the drinks looked very muddy and not appetizing at all and there was no ice or garnish. Bartenders were not friendly and looked annoyed when you approached them. We had brought a lot of cash for tipping but often did not tip at all due to the poor service.

Of all of the staff we encountered, there was only ONE that was friendly. We did not get her name, but she worked at the buffet and was always smiling and joking around with the customers.

Overall, I would not recommend the Wydham Tangerine.

I don't usually write reviews but this time I think it's worth it. Where to start?... Choose another hotel. Positive: the site is very small so everything is close, it's very clean and the staff is very helpful and kind. He did his best to make our stay pleasant. There is beautiful vegetation. You can walk a long way on the beach on each side of the resort and there are restaurants, including one where they make delicious poutine! Negative: We had to change rooms after one day and we visited 3 others before finding one where everything was functional (block 13, 12, 24 and ending up in 23). When it wasn't the air conditioning that didn't work, it was the bathroom door that didn't close because it had bulged from humidity or there was no hot water at all. , not even a little lukewarm. Some rooms are very small and don't expect liquor or beer in the mini fridges. There is only water. The drinks at the bar are "ok" but the cappuccinos in the morning are very good. There is a self-serve liquor fountain at the bar but 4 days a week it was not functional and since there is only one bar, if you want a glass of Coke you have to wait in a line of 10-12 people before being served. The buffet wasn't very good (and yet, I swear I'm not picky). Everything is cold. There is no stove under the dishes. The soups are good but most of the main dishes look like giblotte and are not tasty. We had bacon 3 times, one of which was burnt and when you find something good, you have to hurry because they don't refill it. We cannot fall back on pasta that is made to our liking like in most resorts. They don't do that. There is no pepper or sugar substitute (for those who might be interested). There are a lot of really big waves and it's really dangerous. My partner injured his hip when he was flipped upside down by a big wave. This is definitely not a place for young children, at least not under 12 years old. On the other hand, there is no algae. In short, for the price paid ($1689) it's not worth it at all. In my opinion, it is not a 4 star but a 3 star, similar to Cuba. I hope these comments can help you in your hotel choice.

First trip alone with my daughters (9 and 12 years old). Excellent price for children and no penalty for solo parents.

Language barrier for us and some staff members speak French and do everything to help us.

We asked to change rooms for a quieter place (we were in the main pavilion with the bar and disco). Katherine at guest service speaks French and helped us quickly.

There is indeed a lot of wind and big waves. Increased surveillance by security on the beach so as not to go too far, it is dangerous. But we still really enjoyed jumping in the waves.

The beach is very clean, hats off to the staff who clean every morning. The site is also clean.

Some rooms seem outdated according to other travelers (ceiling that is falling apart, door handle that barely holds), we had a nice room in pavilion 27 with a view of the water.

My daughters enjoyed participating in the activities near the pool and the different activities offered in the evening. Our favorite: silent disco. Headphones are provided with 3 different music stations and we dance.

Naya is really awesome and friendly. She remembered my daughters, their names and invited them to participate in activities.

For the sellers on the beach, some also speak French, including Bernadette for the braids. A little tip: Tell other sellers that you are with x (the person you spoke to) and they will respect each other and stop asking you.

Forrest, the life guard, is very friendly as is Alfredo, the man with the omelettes at the buffet in the morning.

The snack bar is not very appetizing on the other hand, often cold.

All in all, a great vacation for the three of us.

I made a solo trip to the tangerine in January. When I first arrived I'm not going to lie I was wondering what I've walked into. It was a late night check in after delays getting there. Check in was simple and once I walked through the doors from the beautiful lobby to the resort, it was beautiful at night, well lit and quiet. If you keep in mind this is d.r and things are done different then we would you'll be fine. The room, was really large, although it was just me, and you get charged more for being a single person it would have made more sense to me to give me a single bed and make more money off the 2 beds. Anyhow, never had a problem with water, the bathrooms were updated ish with slate no problems with the room, although my view was the doors of the next block over. Not there for my balcony don't care. Pool was great, loungers became a bit of a battle here and there but tolerable. The beach was amazing, and in 7 mins you could be in town at shops and bars and food right there on the beach. It is also very well watched and those guys know what they're talking about when you get whistled to come back in closer. The food , I have had better but did not starve by any means. Snack bar, tried several times was pathetic every time no lying there. Staff everywhere were amazing, grounds were clean, rooms were clean. Great value for the price, I would go back.

Do you have a Kids Club? What hours is it open.

I don't think so but I didn't have kids so I didn't pay close attention. I would not bring kids here. The resort is very small and there's no kids pool or many kids activities and the ocean is very wavy. It's not bad for adults but I would not bring kids
