Dhulikhel, about an hour's drive from Kathmandu, is a quiet hilltown. It offers beautiful views of the Himalayas from some hotels. Hotel Arniko is right on the Arniko highway and offers some great views, but it is in the town, not on the ridges at the outskirts. It is a town most NGOs go to for meetings, catch up, and...

My stay at this small hotel on the busy Arniko highway was unremarkable on the whole though the service lacked warmth (just one smile would have better than none) and the road noise disturbed my sleep. The room was OK; nice and bright (double aspect), clean and reasonably comfortable beds and a functioning bathroom (always a bonus at this price...

Not a bad place to stay. Affordable price, so don't expected fancy amenities, you get what you pay for. I recommend if possible, stay in Block C which was recently constructed or renovated. Again, not a bad place for meetings and so forth.

There are many hotels in Dhulikhel and the Arniko hotel is in the middle category, catering as much to Nepali weekenders from Kathmandu as to foreigners. It's good value for money and the staff are extremely friendly. The rooms are clean too and the restaurant food is perfectly adequate. However, the one thing that the Arniko Hotel disappoints on is...

If you cannot afford or can't get into the top rated Dhulikel you can do a lot worse than staying here. Whilst we walked away from some of the snooty 4/5 star hotels where the staff were uninterested in guests (and the one we wanted was fully booked) at Arnikos they bent over backwards to help us feel comfortable. We...

The road to the China/Tibet border from Kathmandu has some wonderful vistas to the North showing the Himalya at it's best The hotels on the Northern side of this highway do have a great outlook . Provided it is not misty or raining ( which it was most of the two weeks I have been here <April 2011>)). But at...
