In fact, this hotel is in Takengon city. It's the only hotel in town, located at the bank of a beautiful lake. The local residences named the lake: Danau Laut Tawar which means "unsalted sea water" lake since they rarely see the real beach. I can imagine such a hotel might be the georgous one when it just started the...

First of all, we are a couple with not that high expectations or requirements for a hotel. We have stayed at many hotels, some of which have been really basic. Still, this one was one of the worst we have ever been to and definitely the worst in Sumatra. Imagine we booked the very expensive deluxe room in this hotel!...

Firstly, The Renggali is NOT in Banda Aceh. It's in Takengon, on the southern coast of lake Lut Tawar, maybe 2 KM east of Takengon town. A beautiful, aged property. It was probably a trendy place for civil servants to go for the weekend back in the 1970's (Like the Hotel Danau Toba in Medan). This heyday is long gone-...

We stayed there just one night with the kids and liked it. It looked like an old colonial dutch hotel. Rooms are simple, but big enough. We had one at the lake side with view. The views on the lake in the morining where unforgettable. The people very friendly, not many people staying there when we where there (Ramadan)

So...I'd agree with the other posters - this hotel is overpriced and the view is amazing! Locals come to visit and enjoy the gardens including a few courting couples of an evening. I ended up staying two nights just because I enjoyed the view and overall peace so much. No luck negotiating a discount though. Some other points to add......

I can only see 1 review rated at 2 stars and somehow TripAdvisor is showing 4 stars!!! Very similar experience. Was on the road from Medan via Berastagi and Ketambe and on to Banda. A bad fall in Ketambe meant I had six stiches so was really looking forward to staying here after 8 hours of winding roads in a...

I spent one night at Hotel Renggali, which is in the Gayo Highlands of Nothern Sumatra, next to Lake Laut Tawar. After a 10-hour drive from Medan, the first thing I wanted to do was use the bathroom. There was no toilet paper. The staff rolled their eyes when I asked for some, like I was being high maintenance or...

“don't go to the renggali hotel. If the deluxe rooms are like this, imagine what the standard rooms are like. our view on the lake was not that good from the room. I assume the second floor comes with a much better view”
