Sopa lodge has a lot of staff which are very efficient. I will get on to the negative points first. 1. It gets very cold at night and heating is rather limited with hot water heaters which do not fill the room and in some rooms don't work. 2. general maintenance, a lot of the rooms are getting run down...

We stayed one night at Sopa and absolutely loved it. The food, service and the view were the highlight for this hotel. Our first choice was Serena but it was fully booked and i was glad that happened. Like the previous reviewer, i did not mind the hot water restrictions. The rooms might be slightly outdated but were clean and...

I personally loved being in a hotel for one night after being in tented lodges, but the rest of my family felt a but out of touch with where we were. The hotel reception, bar and restaurant were fantastic, with great food and lovely waiting staff. There were lots of people in the restaurant and it did get quite busy,...

We stayed here after returning from the western Serengeti. The hotel is huge compared with the smaller places we had stayed and had more of a western feel to it. While the furnishings were all African, it was large, crowded and overall, average feeling. However, it's location and proximity to the gate to the crater made it worth staying there....

After having spent several nights in small lodges and tented camps Sopa Lodge overwhelmed us. The reception area was fancy and big as was the restaurant and everything else. We startled at the fact that there were at least a hundred rooms. Our room was also huge as was the bathroom, but we had an amazing view from our floor-to-ceiling...

Perched right on the rim it has a great view of the crater. The sunset and sunrise over the crater were gorgeous. Spacious rooms with great food. It has great ambience and very close to the entrance to the crater.

We recently went on a safari to Tanzania and Kenya with Micato Safaris! Micatoa was everything expected and more! Our first Tanzanian trip was to the Nogorongoro Crater and it was incrediblel! The Sopa Lodge was bright, airy, friendly and perched high on the rim of the crater. Food was tremendous. Our 2 sons (18 & 19) were more than...

Situated on the ridge of crater, great view . It's cold here in morning & night. Very clean , common areas very nice, wifi good. Has pool but too cold! Room is average no thrills apart from a hot water bottle at night. Staff are ok not as good as Serengeti sopa. Food was ala carte 1 night / buffet...

this is the 2nd Sopa lodge we stayed, with the wonderful impression of the previous stay in Sopa, Ngorongoro Sopa is a bit out of expectation. we had an bad expereience on dinning. after the dinner ordered, the starter arrived within 1 min, rest of the dinner was served in rush, all dishes were finished in less than 45 mins....

The crater view is breathtaking and, if you can, be poolside for an incredible sunset photo-op. The drive to the lodge is quite the climb but will be well worth it when the lookout over the crater enroute is completed. Be attentive for wildlife - we missed the opportunity for a photo of the elusive leopard when driving down -...
