We stayed here for a couple of nights in February and were pleasantly surprised in that the hotel was better than we had expected. It is true that it is a large facility that attracts tour groups. As well, it is a bit lacking in character and is dated. On the plus side, however, the rooms are large and clean.... More

Big bathroom, big bedroom, big closet, big views! Dinner was great. They even brought the desert to my room. Bar was awesome... i had a 'Crater Blues'... recommended. But above all location is the best.

The title sums up our 2-night experience at the Sopa on our recent 2-week safari. The proximity to the Crater entrance allowed us to be at the gate for the morning opening (other lodges have a much longer drive), the room was very large, comfortable and had a beautiful closed in porch w a view (it is cold up there... My wife and I stayed here for two nights during our 10 day private safari in Tanzania. We read many reviews on all the accommodations and picked the Sopa because of it location and proximity to the decent road. We were expecting mediocre accommodations. We were pleasantly surprised to find the Lodge to be better than we expected. Our room... More

This is retro in all the wrong ways. Sopa’s décor is like time-warping back to the early 80’s and is in desperate need of a designer update. Staff uniforms are one big fashion faux pas and the food is bland and uninspired. It feels like little more than a motel on steroids. Prices here trade on Sopa’s location, but with... More

We stayed at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge for one night. Having read many poor reviews on Trip Advisor when planning our trip, we only chose this lodge as it is the best positioned, being very close to the descent road into the Crater. However, following our stay, we can’t understand why there were so many negative reviews on Trip Advisor. Perhaps... More

I stayed at 3 hotels during my safari, and this was by far the best one. The main thing for me was the breathtaking view of the crater. Truly spectacular. The bar, dining room and the terrace overlook the crater. The service in the bar is not great, and I the staff disorganised - trying to charge me for something... More

The location and view form the rim of the crater is spectacular. The building however is poorly designed, bad materials, lack of detail, a dated feel. The rooms are big, but poorly appointed, the bed linen are terrible (make you think they have not been changed for several days) and the towels are worn-out and the cosmetics terrible. The food... My husband and I stayed for two nights here while on safari. Our room was large, but somewhat uninspired and had a dated feel to it. The views of the Crater are outstanding but the facility itself is large and seems somewhat impersonal. After being in small, tented camps for most of our week, it was a somewhat disappointing end... 12/1/14 - Arrived around 3pm after our visit to the crater and this place certainly had the wow factor for us. Met and taken into reception to book in, offered a cold drink and towel. The reception was large and did feel like a European hotel. We went to our room which was only a few steps from reception, as... More
