The lodge sits on the crater rim and all the rooms have the most amazing view with the beds looking right out over the crater. The lodge is very nice and both the bar and restaurant area great. Really nice place to stay if visiting...More
On safari with Tauck group - stayed here for 2 nights. Staff were amazing and made the stay extra special. Acrobat show from nearby tribe in the evening was fantastic. Food was delicious. Albert the naturalist is knowledgeable and gave great hike around the lodge....More

We visited the Ngorongoro Crater in July 2015 as part of our African Safari tour. The drive up to Serena was gorgeous! The Lodge is located on the very edge of the cliff overlooking the crater and the views from our room was incredible!
What a great jumping off place for the crater safari. The hotel is clean and well run. The restaurant has good food, but the safari lunch boxes could be improved. There were musicians our first night and acrobats on the second night. Wifi and room...More

Certainly possible, my first visit to Ngorongoro Crater had a morning game drive after which we drove to the airport for an afternoon flight. My experience was part of a safari so really don't know how to organise a single drive. The company that I normally use is Roy Safari in Arusha.
