A nice place to stop in Ngorongoro and the atmosphere is also refreshing, with a blend of guests and the cool air from the crater. Food was o.k. and the rooms clean and tidy. A good stop after a long day of driving.

The Rhino Lodge was just fine, especially comparing the price with the other options. The food and service were very good. The room we had was spacious but worn. Sadly, no view of the crater floor but it was foggy in the morning so I am glad we did not splurge.

It is the end of the day and the sun is settling after a half day in the Ngorongoro crater in Tanzania. The buffaloes come to this lodge as if it was their home. They sleep chewing like cows near your hotel balcony. Other animals too come to the hotel grassy grounds to feed the last bit of the day....

Wifi in lounge and restaurant area, but not rooms. Back patios in rooms and nature views from cafeteria area which was beautiful, relaxing, and if you're lucky a chance to see wildlife! Food is buffet style. And for those on safari with guides the policy is that you eat your dinner meal with your guide- which we loved! Rooms were...

Beautiful place, good service, nice rooms and good food for an affordable price. Not exactly at the edge of the crater, but close enough. This is a perfect place to stay when visiting the Ngorongoro crater and they provide you with nice lunch boxes to bring along on your safari drive. The crater is just fantastic and really a place...

Last hotel for our Safari trip and we just good! Our room was cozy as it had a little chimney to hopefully warm the room up. although they said that the hotel is old, it's pretty well maintained and clean. the restaurant they have is sufficient that's all I can say. the only area that has a wifi service as...

Room was very clean and comfortable.. the fact that we could view a family of waterbucks from our terrace at the back was fantastic. The restaurant/bar (replete with roaring fires) was very relaxing and a lovely spot to chill out and catch up via the WIFI. Meals were great and the manager was so (so) nice on marking the fact...

My wife and I stayed here under a Safari package to visit Manyara/Ngorongoro. The lodge is inside the main gate for the crater, and I believe we got charged the $200/car fee per day (Even though we only went into the crater once). It's about 3.5 hours from Arusha, and ~90 minutes from Manyara. The lodge itself has a nice...

We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and appreciated the charm of our place. We wanted to remind you that the crater fee of $200 is a tax paid to the Conservation Area and it only allows one car to enter into the crater for a day. This price is set by the government and goes...

We spent two nights at the Rhino Lodge, while visiting the Ngorongoro Crater. It’s definitely not a fancy place to stay, but it does the job. One thing to mention right away, it does not have a view over the crater; our room looked out onto forested mountains to the southwest. There is a decent amount of wildlife in the...

We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. We do know our wireless is sometimes slow, especially if many people try to connect at the same time. The system was operational when you were there but quite slow. Other guests were successfully connected. For the laundry, as we do not have any dryer on site (which would use-up...

My wife and I stayed here on our way back from the Serengeti, and after a stupendously enjoyable day down in the crater. You're on the outer edge of the crater rim here, so you won't get a sunset view down into the magic, but Rhino Lodge nonetheless has a wonderful location--often shrouded in mist, and with a big outdoor...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Rhino Lodge is ideally located on the edge of the Ngorongoro crater rim. The Lodge was originally the home of Ngorongoro’s first conservator, and its developers have maintained the house’s original rustic, low-impact style and natural setting. Rhino Lodge offers a perfect base from which to explore the Ngorongoro crater and its surroundings. Game drives into the crater, and, for the more adventurous, walking safaris in the forest reserve and visits to nearby Maasai villages, can all be arranged from the lodge. And, on return after a long day, 24 comfortable en suite rooms with forest views, a cozy living space, friendly local staff and generous African-inspired meals offer guests a warm welcome home. ... more   less
