The location of this lodge is convenient for the crater and despite not having a crater view, it's pleasant enough, with buffalo and waterbuck grazing on the lawn. The staff in the restaurant are very attentive and the food was good, but the accommodation itself is showing its age. The rooms are small, as are the beds and the walls are wafer thin, so that any conversations between loud European neighbours can easily be heard. It didn't help that said neighbours let doors slam at all times of day and night. The same went for that period of quiet time on the veranda to enjoy nature. One minute quiet, next minute loud insensitive neighbours arrive and shatter the peace. Little anyone can do about it but we didn't experience such intrusions elsewhere.
We arrived at the lodge after a day on safari. Our rooms were ready and there was someone who had just lit our stoves in the room. It was rather cold this time of year there at the lodge but after a good shower and long sleeved pajamas, I slept very well! The staff in the dining area was wonderful especially the chef! They made sure we was satisfied and even waited for some of our straggling guest since there was 14 of us. The dining area was warm and cozy with a diverse group dining throughout. The icing on the cake was the next morning we was able to see some animals outside the window.
We only stayed one night at the lodge before visiting the crater and it was a nice stay. We had a few hours to spend on their deck having drinks and watching the sun set. We had waterbuck grazing right outside our room and even had a herd of Buffalo come to graze as well. The staff were very friendly and they even will go lit your fireplace in your room during dinner so it’s nice and warm when you get back. The food was good as well. It is not on the rim of the crater like some of the luxury lodges but it is a beautiful smaller lodge with wildlife all around you. We very much enjoyed our stay here!!!
I give this a 3.5 based on the amenities. The setting was nice, but not at the edge of the crater. We had some antelope type animals that were just outside our lodge. The service at this lodge was excellent and dining was quite good (as good as our other lodges and hotels that were rated five star). We had limits on when hot water was available, but we declined to take showers, due to the chilly conditions. Heat was provide by a stove that was fired up before we went to bed. It did provide heat, but we decided to take showers. We slept well, since we had several layers of covers.
We had a lovely time at Rhino Lodge. The team really looked after us, in particular the Chef from Dar El Salaam! We had specific food requirements and he ensured they were met by even sometimes preparing seperate food. The team and manager were lovely. Thank you for a great experience.
We can say Rhino Lodge was the best lodge we stayed in during our one week Safari tour among Tanzania. The location is beautiful, In the middle of the forest with animals coming close to eat the grass around. The food is fantastic and there is a nice selection of local and imported wines. We had the pleasure to meet the owner who suggested us a nice red wine from Tanzania, all the stuff is very professional and nice. There is also the chance to buy some local souvenir made by Masai people and support a child foundation. Nights can get cold but there is plenty of blankets in the room, all rooms are equipped with heaters but we didn’t need it
Staff is very nice as is the general manager who works sun up to sun down to ensure the place is running smoothly. Others have complained about it being cold but we found they provided adequate blankets. When you are at dinner they heat the wood stoves in each room which provide some additional warmth, and lastly they have hot water bottles in each room that they gladly fill with hot water. We put these near the foot of our bed and found we were very comfortable overnight - almost too hot! Dinner and breakfast options were very good, 10/10. The lodge dining area is very cozy and inviting with multiple small fireplaces and communal seating as well as dining tables. One area of improvement would be the bathrooms - we were in room 3 and the bathroom needed some remodeling. In addition the shower was giving either hot water or cold water, but would not adequately mix it to create warm water. So we ended up taking a shower very quickly in very hot water. If we had stayed more than one night I would have brought this to the attention of the managers but we were rather dusty and just wanted to get the shower done with. The bathroom in general needs some remodeling, and amenities are lacking. Other than that we enjoyed our stay at this lodge!…
A pretty, cosy, comfortable lodge right in the conservation area. Friendly staff, excellent food, comfortable beds. Electricity by generator, so restricted charging of electronics. Animals around so must stay inside the resort Lovely place.
We spent one night at the Rhino Lounge in Ngorongoro and we had a great time there. The staff is super friendly and nice and always ready to help. The rooms have all the facilities you need for an accommodation in the middle of the nature. The view is amazing both from the room’s balcony, as well as from the restaurant’s terrace, where you will see many lovely visitors. Remember that the temperature there is much lower than in the rest of the country, so pack an extra jacket :D
Good breakfast/lunch/diner. Good location to go to the Ngorongoro crater!!! Also possible to see wildlife outside the lodges. Friendly staff and nice rooms. Lunch packages were available for the safari trip to the crater.
