We've just returned to the UK after climbing the Lemosho route up Kilimanjaro with the excellent help of the team at Marangu Hotel. Recommended by a friend who grew up with the family who run the hotel we really could not have been in better hands. The hotel has a very well deserved reputation of treating its guides and porters...

Marangu Hotel was the best for our Kilimanjaro Trip. They prepared us really well and are crew were absolutely fantastic. Marangu also helped us with gear and special diet requirements. The hotel is clean and offers a perfect place to relax before and after the climb. Highly recommended.

We camped here for 2 nights as part of an overland trip, there is a grassy area below the bathrooms which is secluded from others in the hotel. Unfortunately when we were there there was a very noisy party next door one night and awful (and a bit dangerous) barking dogs the next so we didn't sleep well. The camp...

My family and I not only stayed at the Marangu Hotel, but we also had them arrange our Kilimanjaro climb. They were simply outstanding. The climb could not have been more thoughtfully executed and their staff was excellent. Every aspect of our adventure was taken care of and from the very beginning we knew that they were highly capable. The...

We stayed at the Marangu Hotel from Jan 1, 2017 through Jan 8, 2017. The room was not fancy, but was large, clean and comfortable. The breakfast and dinner meals were very good, and were not on a menu. Rather, the breakfast was usually the same, i.e., cereal, fresh fruit, eggs/omelets, toast, coffee, juice, and was delicious. Dinners changed each...

Stayed at the Marangu for 3 nights . We didn't climb Kilimanjaro but did a day hike and a village tour. The rooms were spacious and clean. If you request a queen bed you will get two twins pushed together which isn't quite as comfortable. The breakfasts were very good and we also had dinner at the Marangu. They did...

We went back to Marangu Hotel for a second time following a 17 year break. What a difference. From start to finish, we were very happy with our trip. The hotel was very helpful with organizing transfers from Nairobi to Moshi and the hotel before and after our travel. The same team was in place, but the Marangu Hotel has...

In the 1930 coffee farmers Bennet and Lany started to take in paying guests to compensate for falling coffee prices. Over time their farm became the first hotel on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, famous for arranging climbing trips on the mountain. For many years the starting point for a climb of Africa's tallest mountain was Marangu Hotel. Today there are...

Stayed here the night on our way to Arusha. It's a nice enough place with colonial looking bungalows. It has a nice enough bar and reception area. The camping facilities though are pretty ordinary and the 100mb of data which costs $2 is pretty ridiculous. Maybe if you stay in the hotel part your experience will be better.

From the start of our visit, the staff could not do enough to please us and make our (all to short) stay enjoyable. The rooms are comfortably furnished with a shared porch (usefull when the sun is high) and are situated in beautiful gardens. When its not covered by cloud there is a great view of the top of Mount...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Marangu Hotel is set on 12 acres of beautiful garden and has been open since 1932. We have been organising climbs of Kilimanjaro, on all routes, for over 80 years. The original farm buildings (now offices and reception) were built in 1907 as part of a coffee farm before being converted in 1932. Guest accommodation is provided in cottages around the gardens, and meals are prepared with vegetables from our own gardens and home baked bread. ... more   less
