Marangu hotel was recommended to us by a friend who had climbed Kilimanjaro organized by Anthony and Marangu Hotel. Though we didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel we were touched by the kindness and genuine service the hotel staff provided and enjoyed the beautiful gardens. Itinerary of our climb was very carefully organized to increase our success rate while showing us the beautiful sceneries during our climb. The pre-climb brief was critical in making sure we are properly prepared with great attention to details. After our successful climb to the summit Anthony had helped organize a magical Safari in Serengeti. If you are looking for an authentic experience climbing Kilimanjaro I totally recommend Marangu Hotel. They are the most knowledgable with a wonderful crew and have been organizing climbs since 1930s.…
I was spending in July 3 nights with a friend, and I regret I couldn't stay longer. The land and facilities (with swimming pool, bar & lots of places to chill) are fantastic: clean and organized. Also I tried there breakfast and dinner: were delicious and big amounts. But the best there are owners and workers: you feel there like at home :) If you're up to visit Marangu, I recommend you to have a look to this place!
We were the first guests after the hotel reopened after Covid. Anthony, the manager, and the hotel staff were warm and welcoming. Anthony was very helpful in selecting Rodrick, a local guide, to take us on a walking tour to the Chagga Caves and Ndoro Waterfalls, as well as an AMAZING driver, Penford Magasi, to be our driver. The location of the hotel is heavenly and the food delicious. We would have stayed much longer, if we could have.
The Marangu Hotel team has years of experience in putting together climbing expeditions for the Kilimandjaro and this is remarkable. Everything was perfect starting with the preparation work and the great advices from Anthony . Once on site, Agnes was always available to answer our questions and requests . The climbing team was very supportive, professional and extremely kind. The food, the quality of the material and the deep knowledge of the team made us feel very confortable and safe at all time. I would strongly recommend the Marangu Hotel for any expedition to the Kilimandjaro ! We came back from Tanzania full of great memories and images, made possible by this wonderfull Marangu team. Thank you !
After a long delay due to COVID, my son and I, along with his two friends, made the decision to climb Kilimanjaro despite the continuing pandemic. I cannot speak more highly of the hotel staff and our climbing crew. Before the climb, Seamus and Anthony were very responsive to my many questions. The climb was well organized, and we appreciated the virtual briefing of what to expect before we arrived. We arrived at the hotel tired and hungry at around 1am after a flight delay and long wait to complete the now required COVID health check, and were warmly welcomed by the staff. After taking our luggage we were treated to a 4 course meal! The staff is wonderful and friendly and Seamus and Agnes made sure we had everything we needed. On the mountain, our climbing crew was excellent and I don't think I would have made it to top if it weren't for our wonderful guides. They helped me up and down the rocky parts and made sure all of 4 of us made it to the top. The food on the climb was excellent and the boys are still raving about the banana stew! Back at the hotel after the climb we celebrated a successful summit with our crew. We spent a few days at the hotel before our climb. The hotel grounds are beautiful, the food excellent, and we enjoyed our stay in our cottages. Agnes was available for all our requests and made sure we had everything we needed, including arranging a guide on short notice to take us on a tour of the surrounding area, which included a local waterfall and coffee tour. We definitely hope to return someday to see our Marangu Hotel family!…
I was part of a group of 11 climbing Kili and the trek was organised by the hotel. From the moment we arrived (after midnight and were given a 4 course dinner!) , while we were up the mountain and after we came down again we were so well looked after. All the staff are friendly, kind, caring and helpful, the food is outstanding (and the food that was cooked for us on Kili was incredible) and Desmond and team were great at answering all our questions beforehand and during our stay. They clearly care for and look after the teams of porters and guides that go up the mountain and this is so important. We had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend Marangu Hotel. Thank you to you all.
Desmond and the team are amazing. They were so accommodating during our stay. We booked as a big group for our charity trek up Kilimanjaro. The crew who took us up the mountain were brilliant and very supportive. The hotel and crew were very helpful to our dietary needs as well, myself being vegan. I'd 100% recommend Marangu Hotel and hope to return soon. Desmond and his team also helped us book additional safaris and organised a trek to a local waterfall.
I stayed three nights recently at the Marangu Hotel. The hotel is so pretty -- it's a compound of little buildings set in the most amazing gardens, overflowing with beautiful flowers and teeming with beautiful and interesting birds. Everyone who works at this hotel is so nice -- I felt really cared for by the team there. One particularly amazing thing -- I told them when I arrived that I was gluten free, and they actually baked me special gluten free bread to eat with all my meals there. I was really blown away by that -- a totally unprecedented hospitality experience! :) This is a great place to come if you need somewhere to rest and recharge for a few days! Highly recommend :)
Had two days at Marangu. It was comfortable, quiet and peaceful. The rooms were nice and well maintained and the grounds and swimming pool were delightful with plenty of flowers and bird life. An excellent base for exploring the locality, including trekking Kilimanjaro. Very helpful owner, who will arrange guides, and taxis, for you. Nice dinners, which were included in the room price. Not somewhere to come if you want uninterrupted WiFi access, but then that isn't why most people are here!
My husband and I had limited time and wanted to have the best possible experience for our brief 2-day/2-night visit to the Mount Kilimanjaro area. After careful research we choose Marangu over Moshi, and a stay at The Marangu Hotel – this was an excellent decision. The history of the property is very interesting – a European family started a coffee plantation here in 1907, in the 1930s they became one of the first outfitters in the area for organized Kilimanjaro climbs. The hotel followed and is still managed by descendants of the original families, a palpable but low-key sense of history continues. The hotel’s main focus is to facilitate and equip visitors who are climbing to the summit, but it is equally well-suited to those like ourselves who are doing day hikes. We were able to make all the assorted arrangements in advance that we needed, as hotel management were quick and very professional in responding to our email inquiries. Special shout-out to Penford, the affable, accommodating and professional driver who picked us up in Arusha and took us to several stops in Moshi before arriving in Marangu, as well as a later transfer to the Kilimanjaro airport. We really enjoyed his company. Special shout-out also to Philip, our top notch guide for a short local walk on day one and then a Mandara Hut full day hike in Kilimanjaro National Park on day two. Philip is an extremely knowledgeable guide for local animals, plants, land and culture. He’s an intelligent, friendly and genuine guy - we learned a lot from him and shared a wonderful and memorable day together. The Marangu Hotel was a perfect spot to wind down our vacation in Africa. The staff are friendly and experienced - our thanks to Agnes and Jacintha at the front desk, Zahara and Anna in the restaurant, Ivan and the other grounds staff for keeping the property both secure and beautiful. The accommodation was extremely comfortable and spacious, a lounge area plus bedroom and bathroom in a ‘cottage’ bungalow with a private porch area in front. The pool looked attractive and inviting although we didn’t have an opportunity to use it. We spoke with Desmond (one of the owners) regarding several small inquiries and he was both attentive and kind. The food is tasty and bountiful – and the 12 acres of gardens are truly magnificent! The range of plants, shrubs and birds is an absolute delight – our final recommendation for this hotel is to enjoy a chilled bottle of wine in the gardens at sunset, while gazing at Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped peak. Sublime.…
