We stayed pre and post our Kilimanjaro climb and then booked in again for one night after a short Safari. Fabulous staff, a good range of facilities and the most wonderful welcome. Treated like family from the moment we arrived. Great jumping off point for any Kili climb. Cannot recommend this hotel enough!

Had a fantastic stay! Extremely helpful and kind staff members. Hotel is also connected to a school, so part of the money spent goes to help the school. Food was very good and menu was diverse with local as well as international choices.

Everything was so nice about this place. Authentic and lovely people, clean, food prepared with love, amazing view on the Kilimanjaro in a beautiful bar. Charming rooms and excellent service. Especially ask if you can pay a visit to the school next door. Also very nice for our children of 10 and 12 years old. This place was part of an unforgettable Tanzania experience!!

What a beautiful place with the most welcoming, kind, and helpful staff! We stayed here one night before and one night after climbing Kilimanjaro with Peak Planet. The hotel staff picked us up at 2:00am from the airport, helped us get settled, cooked the most incredible breakfast, stored our extra bags and valuables safely during our climb, and had the most joyous smiles. I'd absolutely stay here again!

The employees at Stella Maris are the best! Super friendly and welcoming throughout your stay. They have a safe to keep valuables during your hike and will store luggage. Individual hot water for each room and very clean hotel. Breakfast everyday included fresh guava juice, toast, crepes, eggs to order and other local fruits and specialties.

I stayed at the Stella Maris Lodge in July 2022 for several nights before climbing Kilimanjaro and a couple of nights after. It was very clean and functional. The food was very good with plenty on menu choice. It’s an excellent stopping off point for the mountain climb, don’t be put off by the ‘2 star’ rating. Above all I found the manager ‘Teddy’ and her staff so incredibly helpful, even with arranging for local travel agent to make a flight change (which is clearly outside the accommodation remit of a hotel). I cannot recommend the Lodge and its staff highly enough.

Room Tip: Nowhere to walk to, near the Lodge but Moshi town is a 20 minute taxi ride away with everything...

We stayed here for 2 nights before our Kilimanjaro climb and again for one day at the end. The staff were excellent - always smiling and helpful. Teddy was a star! The 2 rooms we got were plenty big enough for the 2 of us - twin single beds first room then a double and single in the second. Everything was clean dnd had comfortable beds. Yes the hot water is a bit hit and miss but we managed. AC worked well, mosquito nets around the beds and a great view of Kilimanjaro from the balcony in our first room. Breakfast was good each morning with a selection of fruits and hot items (eggs cooked to order). Evening meals were OK rather than great but there was a reasonable selection. Safe to leave your bag there whilst on Kilimanjaro and did a great job cleaning our walking boots at the end. Profits from the hotel were put towards the running of the school in front of the hotel- what a fabulous cause

We stayed in two different rooms at Stella Maris before and after our Kilimanjaro trek with G Adventures. Our second room was a King room and more spacious and nicer than our first (which had a double and a twin) but both were nice rooms and bathrooms. Pros: Incredibly friendly and helpful staff, on-site restaurant with delicious food, they make it easy to arrange transfers and tours to town or the airport or really anywhere you need to go, nice outdoor space to relax in, views of Kilimanjaro (when/if the clouds clear!), and knowing that your money is benefiting the children at the Stella Maris school is wonderful too. Cons: Limited hot water! Because we had climbed Kili this was a big bummer, since my fiance had to take a half cold shower when we came down. You share a water heater with another room for most rooms, so just be wary of taking longer showers. They do also price beer and water pretty high, so for the convenience just know you are paying a lot. Besides that, a great place to stay and the staff make the 5 stars!

We had a fantastic stay. Teddy, Esther, Innocent, Revo, Richard, and the rest of the staff were so kind and welcoming and professional. Our rooms were spotless, and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast and dinners were tasty, and the ice cream was some of the best I’ve ever had at a hotel. Beautiful, welcoming place. Would highly recommend!
