#3 of 118 Speciality lodging in Moshi
Travellers' Choice
The new design lodge is situated at a height of 1300m on the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro and it is just a few minutes away from Machame Gate, the entrance to the Kilimanjaro National Park. The small bustling town of Moshi, which is roughly 20km from the lodge, can be reached easily thanks to the good tarmac roads. The exclusive location of the lodge, just above a lush green valley, offers direct views of Kibo with its white glaciers.

The location was perfect, as we wanted to be close to Kilimanjaro and to have a good view of it. Kaliwa is located in the middle of an agricultural zone, filled with very nice and friendly people. It is a very well-run hotel, with good rooms, beds, pillows, etc., but the highlight is its personnel. The warmth, efficiency, friendliness, and devotion to good service shown by Justina, Josephine, Vivian, and Lina (the chef) were in fact remarkable, in itself a justification to go to Kaliwa. The sensation of being appreciated as a visitor was overwhelming. The food is incredible, starting with breakfast which was out of this world in its completeness and its quality, all meals were an experience of different flavors, with the best ingredients. Because at this time of year it gets a bit fresh in the evening, we always had a fire in a cozy living room, with wonderful books to look at, enjoying a perfect gin and tonic, waiting to be served another wonderful dinner. Service went beyond the hotel, as Justina organized a hike to Kilimanjaro with Edmund, a fantastic guide, motivated, with good English, and very knowledgeable, while taking care of the recovery of our luggage which had been misplaced between Kenya and Tanzania, and it was waiting for us when we returned from Kilimanjaro. Kaliwa's deck, overlooking a river, with Kilimanjaro in the background, is something truly special. I congratulate the owner for running such a good operation, something in which the quality of her personnel obviously plays a very relevant role.

Room Tip: For privacy, I would probably prefer rooms that don't face the central garden.

Stylish and modern small boutique hotel. Very quite and relaxing stay. Staff and owner are outstandingly friendly and very service oriented. We also enjoyed the restaurant and bar very much. The Mt Kilimanjaro view from the terrace is incredible and I suppose the best one you can get outside of the park. We also enjoyed a trip to the river and waterfall nearby as well as a visit to a local coffee farm. Airport pickup worked perfectly as well.

I stayed at this lodge for one night and found it comfortable with friendly staff, excellent food service, a feast of a breakfast plus yummi dinner. The deck on the river with views of Kilimanjaro is the highlight. I also very much appreciated the half day hike in the valley with excellent and enthusiastic guide, Edmond, with local lunch and coffee roasting at Mama Rosa's. With thanks to Joan for her hospitality. Travellers can also arrange day hikes and treks in Kilimanjaro. For me the hike was a good start and may come back for more in future. A true haven! Thanks Kaliwa lodge team.

We've been to Kaliwa Lodge on August 2020 and this is for us, the best place to stay in Moshi! The view of Mount Kilimanjaro from The Deck is breathtaking... This designed lodge was a fantastic choice to stay before and after climbing Kilimanjaro. Also, the owner and all her team are extremely friendly, helpful when you need tips for organizing activites like safari, and of course professional. We left Moshi with unforgettable memories :)
