The Falaise in Bandiagara provides a clean, comfortable, and safe base to explore the Dogon country. Located at the main road from Mopti near the city limits it is very easy to find. The staff greeting and taking care of us were extremely helpful. We could have breakfast rescheduled to 6 a.m. without problem. They speak sufficient English and German as well. The rooms are far better than Malian standard and rival Bamako hotels. Everything is clean and safe. A/C and ceiling fan included which is a must there. A nice, tidy pool helped us relax after the long day on the road. The menu card is a little short currently as not too many tourist come to Dogon country. Make sure to order dinner in the morning so that the staff can go shopping and accomodate your taste. Food (beef, chicken) was very tasty and sufficient. The breakfast is a little small though. Travelling to Bandiagara obviously includes some risks (see all the travel warnings). Yet, we did not see any hints of criminality, any strange people , any followers or the like. Just be as cautious as anywhere else in Mali. Security should even be better in the Dogon country than in Mobti as the Dogon are desperate to see tourists returning to their area. I bet they will do anything to prevent incidents involving tourists in Bandiagara or East of it. I don' t need to say anything about the Dogon country. Go there and get amazed yourself!…
