We stayed in one of the Turret Rooms at Ty'r Graig and our stay was wonderful. The views of the sea & mountains were spectacular. The room was clean and comfortable. Mike (owner/manager) could not have done more for us. All we had to do was drop him a text whenever we needed towels or toiletries and within minutes they would be outside our door. Breakfast superb. Mike even put up with our penchant for playing Scrabble in the bar each evening. All in all, we would heartily recommend this beautiful place and will definitely come again. With thanks, Ben and Michelle Evans.

I booked this place as it was close to the camp site my family were staying at literally at the bottom of a path. The restaurant main dining was closed but they were offering bar meals for guests only and this was told before I got there. However while I was driving there my mum called them and asked if they would feed us all even though they were not staying and the owner could not have been nicer about it. We had a lovely meal. The room was lovely, clean and welcoming. The bed was huge as so damd comfortable. Our room was facing the hills and not the sea but still a fantastic view when you wake up. Unfortunately due to covid we had to be self sufficient as room valeting was not on offer, again this was known well in advance of stay and all you had to do was say what ever you needed and it was delivered quick smart. Breakfast was orderable the day before and ready for you at a lovely sea front view table, it was hot, freshly made and again nothing too much trouble. The hotel was so quiet and peaceful and I slept like a dream. I would defiantly stay here again with out hesitation. Down sides....well basically none really apart form the front door being heavier than a dead body to open and its a two man job lol. The WIFI is weak due the the building being old and massive but to be honest that was more of a blessing than a curse because it was the perfect excuse to put the phones down. The signal in Barmouth was generally poos as a part of the country. The manager/owner of this hotel was such a lovely bloke, honestly nothing was a problem. Go see for your self. If you are expecting modern, angular, trendy and white.... this is not the place for you. If you are looking for quaint, history, quite, comfortable, interesting and friendly then this is defiantly the place to go.

When I first arrived I was very unimpressed. The hotel is tired looking and in desperate need of renovation. It has so much potential. That said, our Turret room was clean and had a great view of the sea. The main entrance is quite stunning with the tiled floor and stained glass windows. By the end of our trip I really liked the hotel.

The restaurant was running with a reduced menu which was rather uninspired. A walk into Barmouth is downhill (not too steep) and takes about 15 minutes. We found 2 excellent restaurants The Bank and Bermo Bistro. Both were outstanding.

My husband ans I and a friend stayed one Sunday night. Was charged £124 for a double room 2, my friend was charged £73 for a single room 9.The hotel itself is old 1890s, and as expected showed it. The reception area is a corridor leading in the lounge area, looks like an old peoples home . Minimal decor, sticky floors, onward to the conservatory area where the dining room/bar is situated. This area was the best in the hotel, again very minimal but overlooked the beach. Also looking onto council houses and a mobile caravan park.
Was given keys, went to the 1st floor room No 2, bed was clean, tv on wall. Tea and coffee provided. Then to the en suite, never have I seen such a shabby unsafe place. It had an electric toilet the box flush was on the side wall. The hand wash basin was directly in front of the loo so my husband had his knees tucked under it to used the toilet. I am recovering from an operation and found this facitity almost unusable. The shower was up a wooden step, very small, the grouting on the entrance to the shower was dirty and mouldy. We did not use it being so dirty and the step being wooded it's a safety breach!
The room needes a new carpet and a total refurbish. Dusty dirty skirting boards, very used and old fashioned blinds.
The food in the restraunt was edible, quite expensive, the waiter /bar man looked fed up most of the time. Breakfast was minimal, no expalnation of where to obtain fruit jiuse toast ect; Prunes and grapefruit was the fruit option.
My friends room was a single, very small but adequate, her bathroom was a lot better than ours.Room 9.
We have stayed at many hotels and sorry to say this is probably one of the worst we have encountered and feel ripped off paying £124.
Hope the management take all the bad reviews on board, it could be a nice hotel with the right management team and money spent on it.
I will not recommend it.

We stayed in one of the Turret rooms which was lovely and had a great sea view. Bed was a double which was snug but comfortable. The welcome we received and service throughout our stay was faultless... Nothing was too much trouble. The location is about a ten minute walk from the centre of Barmouth but it was nice to be out of the hustle bustle. No problems with parking. The breakfast is outstanding in terms of both how it is served and the quality of the food. We will definitely be returning.

We had the pleasure of staying at Tyr Graig Castle for 3 nights. The imposing entrance has wood panel and stained glass, reflecting the history of the building. Staff were friendly and always helpful, and the covid provisions were safe but unobtrusive. We stayed in a turret room, which had a great view of the beach. The room is comfortable and has many period features which gives character. Breakfast was tasty, with cereal and tasty, cooked local produce. The hotel is close to Barmouth, and is an easy drive to Harlech, Portmeirion and Snowdon.

A very interesting hotel- once a private house owned by the Greener family famous gunsmiths. There are loads of interesting features and a terrific view over the sea. Barmouth itself is a great location surrounded by mountains and with a view right out to Bardsey Island. We had fish and chips in the town, however we had a great breakfast at the hotel and the room was comfortable but quite compact- the bathroom itself was tiny! However we were made very welcome. There is a comfy lounge with a good view over the bay.

The shower/loo was tiny & a bit dated but the room was nice though lacking in power & weak wifi in our room. They simply need a short extension from behind the bed to allow charging at bedside. Super entrance hall. Decent breakfast - lovely big bangers!

We have just returned from a three night stay at Ty Craig. Although different from previous visits due to Covid our stay was lovely.
The staff were welcoming and couldn’t have tried harder to make you feel safe and make your stay pleasurable.
They were working under difficult circumstances which were new to them and also were a staff member down.
The restaurant was closed but they offered a take away service and also opened the bar .
We will be back hopefully in more normal times

We had a really lovely stay with the incredibly kind and helpful Trudy and Mike. I just love this hotel. Our rooms were spotless and we had a terrific cooked breakfast and spent part of the afternoon looking out at the amazing views of Cardigan Bay .

The twin room has an en-suite bath with a shower over the bath tub and does offer a view of the sea as well as the road running along the coastline. On the same floor (i.e. first floor), the standard turret room offers an open view of the sea but it does have a very small shower en-suite. If space is of high importance then we suggest you opt for the large double with hillside view on the 1st floor as it has a superking size bed and an en-suite bath with a shower over the bath tub. Hope we have addressed your questions but should you have any further queries please do not hesitate to ask.
