My husband & I have stayed here on a few occasions when traveling up & down to Scotland from the Devon & it's always a pleasure. The rooms are clean & very comfortable, the bar is cozy with it's roaring fire in the colder months & the locals really friendly. When we've eaten an evening meal we've never been disappointed...

So 8 of arrived youngest being 20mths, we were welcomed by a staff member who got us tables together for us all and a highchair. The fire was lovely, the dining very warm, wasn't busy though, which had me thinking is the food not great. I ordered the king Charles mmm it was delicious, other meals at the table were...

Yes it needs refurbishing - but we're not talking Hilton prices here! The staff were so welcoming. The rooms were clean although really need a makeover. The food was delicious. Had dinner and breakfast in price of our stay and it was well worth the money with really nice, friendly staff. Would go back again.

The people who actually own the property of this hotel should feel some sense of shame. They have a responsibility for the upkeep and appearance of this old hotel. Several thousand pounds should do it - weatherproofing, painting and some commercial cosmetics. Its not rocket science. For the non to particular traveler, it was relatively clean, water was hot, food...

Called in for a break from driving around so parked by the Loch, it was very tranquil with the swans swimming close by and a little further away were some canoeists having fun, and some sail boats that looked like they were practicing racing, there was a lot of other wildlife around also, recommend to anyone who wants a peaceful...

The food was good portions are very big and the breakfast was nice very big again. This was my second time visiting hotel and...

Having stayed here several years ago when the hotel had a different owner I was looking forward to staying here again.it would seem however that nothing has been done to upgrade the hotel since my last visit. It really does need a little time effort and money spent on it to recapture the quality previously seen here. That said staff...

I had the unfortunate experience of needing a hotel room in this 1970's town. I made a mistake of booking this "hotel" for £85 !!! It was probably worth about £25 The car park behind the hotel is straight out of a horror movie - pitch dark with no lights or any "entrance" signs, not a great start. I was...

What a find! Taken by a friend who lives locally and introduced to some of the best beer I have tasted accompanied by the compulsory Scotch pie. Brilliant way to spend a wet & wintry Saturday afternoon with no TV', music or distractions. Just a good old fashioned pub built on the side of its own brewery. Magic!

Castle Douglas packed on a Saturday night. Our B&B host recommended two places for food but these and other restaurants were full or we'd have to wait a long time for service, so we continued looking and saw the Douglas Arms had a nice looking dining room with spare tables. We were welcomed and served very helpfully by friendly staff....
