We called into the bar on Friday 28 Oct and found a great bar that had just reopened with new management who had revamped the hotel. Log burning fire in the well stocked bar with great real beers and friendly helpful staff, this hotel will go places and we will be staying on our next trip up!

Stayed here over the new year to visit family, I can't stress enough how bad our visit was!!!!!!!..... Firstly hotel wasn't open when we arrived nobody was to be seen, kept ringing the owners numerous of times but no answer! About 3 hours later we finally got in contact with them!... Inside the hotel smelt really really bad, especially where... More

When we arrived we had to wait 3 hours to gain entry, after several phone calls and messages left we eventually got hold of the owner. The thing that struck me most was the smell it was damp and musty and you could see your breathe it was that cold. I didn't get a great feel for the place as... More

Absolutely dire.. service and food just awful. No wine available in bar or restaurant. We were told to go and buy our own in the Co op across the road. Cold Water tap not working in bedroom ( brushed our teeth in the bath!!).All in all a total expensive disaster. Couldn't have been more like faulty Towers if they tried.

Visited here with party of 11 for food. Staff were very welcoming and made us comfortable with a homely fire. Food was of a high standard with massive portions to feed your appetite. Fish and chips could easily feed 2 people alone! Will definitely visit here again when we are in town.

Having been given keys for the front door and room. I arrived in the pouring rain around 11:30pm and found the key didn't work and there was no-one in the hotel and no-one to contact. Telephone number given only rang inside. It would be impossible to have a worse experience than this as all my luggage was inside and I... More

Welcoming and warm with crackling log fires. Good pub food with options from light bites to full 3 courses if wanted. Not really a place for kids as a bit dark inside, but great for a quick drink and bite to eat. Lovely chips...probably some of the best I've eaten for a long time

Sister-in-law and myself called in hoping for Sunday lunch but found same weekday menu only available. We ordered Pate to start with Steak and Ale pie as main. The pate was very good but the main meal had to be returned as so much pepper had been placed in the meat it was inedible,it was returned and changed to Scampi.... More

popped in for lunch on a very cold and windy Saturday in April after visiting small market in town. Real fire burning creating a lovely warm atmosphere in olde world pub. Menu was basic and although acceptable, was not really up to previous standards enjoyed in this establishment. Very few light lunches, paninis etc available which would have been our... More

Whiles staff were very accommodating and polite I thought the food was very average at best off of a very basic menu which I believe has changed a lot since new owners took over. I didn't complain about food at the time but we were served chips that were not even cooked properly. Doesn't say a lot for the chefs... More
