We visited the Kirroughtree House Hotel last weekend. It was something of a sentimental journey, as my late father was born in a cottage on the then Kirroughtree House Estate and my grandfather worked as a gardner on the estate from circa 1910 until 1926 (excluding his WW1 service in the Argyle & Sutherland Highland Regiment). The staff could not...

We stayed here again for 2 nights to celebrate my birthday and for an enjoyable break. The hotel, location, staff, service and food were exemplary. We always feel welcomed back by the staff which is very heartening. Although we have stayed several times we continue to remark on the high attention to detail for example in our room with the...

I chose this hotel online to celebrate my wifes 70th birthday, thinking it would be quiet and peaceful in a lovely part of Scotland. The intention was that her brother and sister could join us for the evening as they both live in Glasgow. When I suggested it, they both decided to stay as well. First impressions on arrival were...

My wife and I called into Kirroughtree House Hotel for Sunday lunch. Right from the outset it was obvious this business sets a high emphasis on service delivery with customer satisfaction their main objective. The décor of the building promotes the past history of the building and for those interested there are historical artefacts relating to the Robert Burns connection...

I visited this property in early December as part of a weekend stargazing package with astronomer, Steve Owen. Included in the price were 2 nights accommodation, 4 course dinners, breakfasts, a presentation by Steve, and an outing into the Dark Sky Park to view the constellations (unfortunately weather cannot be guaranteed!). Food was chosen from a set menu, which varied...

Built in 1719 by the architect Patrick Heron, the house was intended as a status symbol for the wealthy Heron family. Today, nearly 300 years later the mansion still exudes that "olde worlde" charm that symbolises its promise of comfort and luxury within. Booked in for a gourmet weekend and having one of the spacious bay window rooms, your first...

The Kirroughtree House is a beautiful place in southwest Scotland. The service is excellent. Jim and his staff are very kind and take great care of their guests. The food is delicious and the breakfast and dinner menus have a nice variety of selections. If you want to get away to the country, this is a great place to go....

Looking for a hotel to stay in while mountain biking with my son at 7stanes I found this lovely Scottish country hotel only 10 minutes cycle ride from the start of the trails (which by the way are excellent) The staff were all very friendly and helpful, we had a lovely room and the meal on the Saturday night was...

We have revisited the Kirroughtree after a gap of about ten years and were very disappointed. After our first visit the thing most of our party talked about for many years was the wonderful food. How things have changed! The rooms are still spacious but there is an air of faded grandeur about the place. The meal portions were very...

My partner and I had Supper at Kirroughtree whilst we were house hunting in the area. The hotel is very plush and extremely inviting with its warm decor and interiors. The Dining room was beautifully decorated and enhances the dining experience. I chose the Wood Pigeon for my starter which was tasty well presented. We both had the roast beef...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A country house hotel, a former private mansion house dating back to the 1700's, sitting within 8 acres of its own gardens, a golf course adjacent. It is located near to the picturesque town of Newton Stewart built on the banks of the River Cree, and is within walking distance of the Galloway forest and hills. There is not only a variety of walks around the town and through the forest, but great cycling tracks as well. Slightly further away are a number of historical sights and the Machar Peninsular. On the Machar peninsular you will find the Booktown of Wigtown famous for its annual book festival, picturesque ports, a cave that was occupied by an early Christian Missionary to the Area, a bird sanctuary and the furthest south whisky distillery in Scotland. The Mull of Galloway, the most southerly point in Scotland, is not far away with its bird life and views to Ireland and the Isle of Man. If the magical village of Brigadoon was to appear this is where it would be. ... more   less
