I have stayed at Kirroughtree before although it is now under new ownership. The staff are very good, many having been there for a long time, although one rather elderly waiter is definitely not as customer centred. There was a 60th birthday party on the night I dined in the Hotel so I was alone in the alternative restaurant and ordered my...

My husband and I stayed on a Saturday night. I booked directly through the hotel as I had a few questions. The girl on the phone - Heather(?) was very friendly & professional. I explained I had a gluten & lactose free diet- she took a note of all the details- even taking the name of the brand of milk...

I had an overnight stay at the hotel when visiting friends in Galloway. I had heard that the management had changed hands and because of this I was uncertain about going, in fact I had phoned another hotel in the area but when put onto voicemail I decided they must be too busy. I need not have worried as the...

Just spent a superb three day weekend at Kirroughtree House Hotel and can thoroughly recommend it. They do all the important things right! Room had everything that was needed, with the bed amazingly comfortable. The guest lounge area was relaxing and ideal for both pre-dinner drinks and after-dinner coffee. The food was top quality and staff quietly efficient and competent.

A beautiful country house rather than a hotel. If you want comfortable elegance and sophistication then this is the place for you. Our room was enormous and comfortable with beautiful views across the gardens. Staff were friendly and the service was excellent with fabulous food. If you want a few quiet days to relax then look no further.

we were staying with friends locally and they suggested the Kirroughtree Hotel for dinner on Saturday night, We arrived by taxi up an imposing drive to a well presented country house hotel, we were met at the door, shown to the lounge and a drink order was taken while we perused the menu, the choice was slightly limited but the...

Lovely hotel, beautiful surroundings, staff all very helpful. However we were slightly disappointed to be given a basement room as we had heard how lovely the views were from the upper rooms. Evening meal was badly presented - chicken dish was extremely salty and chopped up pieces presented in what looked like a bowl of soup. Had to clean toilet...

We are pleased to hear that our customers enjoy staying with us and appreciate the surroundings and service. We have recently reduced the price of our lower ground floor rooms both to compensate for the restricted views, and enable those who would not normally be able to afford to stay with us an opportunity to experience our surroundings and service....

A tremendous find. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, even coming out to the car park to help with your luggage. Nothing was too much trouble but was never intrusive, although someone always seemed to appear as if by magic when required. The room was beautifully clean and well appointed with a very comfortable bed. Being an old building,...

We have just spent a wonderful 3 night break here for New Year. The hotel is really comfortable with large bedrooms, lovely views, large roaring fire in the lounge and extremely kind, attentive and helpful staff. The food was great and you even get invited into the kitchen to meet the chefs. There is also a library room with selection...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A country house hotel, a former private mansion house dating back to the 1700's, sitting within 8 acres of its own gardens, a golf course adjacent. It is located near to the picturesque town of Newton Stewart built on the banks of the River Cree, and is within walking distance of the Galloway forest and hills. There is not only a variety of walks around the town and through the forest, but great cycling tracks as well. Slightly further away are a number of historical sights and the Machar Peninsular. On the Machar peninsular you will find the Booktown of Wigtown famous for its annual book festival, picturesque ports, a cave that was occupied by an early Christian Missionary to the Area, a bird sanctuary and the furthest south whisky distillery in Scotland. The Mull of Galloway, the most southerly point in Scotland, is not far away with its bird life and views to Ireland and the Isle of Man. If the magical village of Brigadoon was to appear this is where it would be. ... more   less
