I was in room 5 which is in the attic as mentioned in other reviews. The room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. It was good to have a kettle and microwave in the room (toaster too) for the morning. The guesthouse is in the centre of the town so I guess it could be noisy at the weekends but no problem mid week - I slept very well. Self checkin/out was straightforward
We booked this and thought we had a mega deal for the money, we thought we booked a room with a kitchenette area which we could eat in but it wasn't to be. Firstly can I say the room was spotless and the bedclothes and towels were so clean that they looked brand new. The bathroom was clean and spacious enough and there were plenty coat hangers in the wardrobe space. The downsides were that we had room 5 which is at the attic of the house and the spiral staircase is steep and does not have good lights. The bed seemed comfortable enough but unfortunately is placed right under the window and the blinds do not work so we would have been awake since 6.30 when the sun came up. We were however awake from 5.30am because the water tank is in a cupboard in this room so every time someone has a shower or flushes their toilet the noise is horrendous. I was the 'lucky one" that slept right next to it! We didn't end up eating a takeaway in the room because it would have meant sitting on the bed eating and having to wash our dishes in the bathroom sink. The kitchenette has a microwave, toaster and kettle, as well as a fridge which is good if you are just looking for somewhere to lay your head for a night and have some snacks in the room. I dislike nasty trip advisor reviews and although I probably wouldn't stay here again it's ok for an overnight stay, although they could fix the blind. Would be great for people to rest their head after a hard days cycling for example. Great location too and Gregg's over the road for breakfast is fantastic. Also ate in the Cobbles over the road and that was out of this world. Can't be any more central than this (hence the name probably!) I wonder if our review would be different had we not had room 5 but we will never know! …
We stayed in room 2 which was very shabby to say the least. Good points bed comfortable and the linens clean towels the same, great location. But this room should not be let until a major reverb is completed. Didn't see any of the other rooms so can't comment, advice ask NOT TO stay in room. 2 at time of booking.
Excellent central location. Self check-in process easy and convenient. Rooms and bathrooms a bit dated but for us not a problem. Clean and warm. Beds and pillows very comfortable. Would definitely use again.
The Central Guesthouse is in a fabulous location on Kelso's Market Square. The room we booked only had a bath and no shower and I didn't feel that was made clear at the time of booking. Arrangements to pick up keys etc were a little clunky and the rooms at the very top of the building required several staircases to be climbed with suitcases etc as there is no lift. If you are looking for a clean and comfortable premises in a central location with no frills then this would fit the bill.
Stayed in Room 2. Clean room, comfy beds, clean/good bathroom & shower, tv, tea/coffee making facilities, fridge, free parking outside and FREE WI-FI. Not very keen on making small talk at breakfast so having just a room was fine with us. Yes, as previous posters have said, the guest house is a little dated but the new owners, Jamie & Mandy, have great things in mind for the property. Having seen two rooms they have recently refurbished I am sure future residents will not be disappointed - baby steps! Kelso is a bustling little town with lovely shops and eateries and great views of Floors Castle and the Tweed from one of the bridges. Can’t wait to return.
Booked this to visit Family there is no meet or greet given a code is sent to access key to open main door there is a winding staircase and on first floor note with your room number and key we were in room 5 right at the top about 3 flights the bed is against the window and Saturday night was very noisy outside the water tank for all rooms is in room 5 so when someone takes a bath or shower in another room it is quite loud
Stayed at the central guest house in kelso for 2 nights recently. This was our first time in a guest house and although i was dubious about the 'no greet and meet policy, things worked out ok. Upon booking your given a code for the keysafe next to front door, you let yourself in and return the master key. Upon entering the property there is a short hallway leading to a spiral staircase, on the first floor landing theres a table upon which was our key and some info, we were in room 3. Up another flight of stairs! Upon entering the room we found ourselves in the main bedroom which had a double bed, next to that was another bedroom with 2 single beds, the 'kitchen' is just off this second bedroom and the bathroom leads off the kitchen. The 2 bedrooms were furnished with wardrobe, set of drawers, chair and there is a tv in each room. The facilities in the kitchen area are basic but most of the things you need, kettle, toaster, fridge, micro. The room was clean and tidy, bathroom spotless, no complaints there. Water pressure in shower was very low but water was hot. No real complaints about noise, the traffic on cobbled street just outside front door was noticeable but died down after about 10pm, a little noise on the fri night from pubs letting out but nothing major. No noise at all from other guests. As the name suggests the central guest house is ideally situated with views out onto the market square and car park, there is a greggs across the road and a lidl a short walk away. Kelso itself is very pretty and historic if a little busy! Especially the road around market square. All in all we had a nice stay and would recommend. Slight issue with a corner of kitchen ceiling peeling paper as can see in photo, but nothing esle really to complain about. …
Stayed 1 night in this guesthouse. Bathroom is in need of updating. Thought we went through timeloop going in. Very old style, no shower. Dirty looking with carpet. Wallpaper peeling of wall and ceiling water damage and dirty looking. Room itself with 2 beds and windows that dirty you couldn't look through. Very noisy and couldn't get much sleep because windows very old and no soundproof. Would not stay there again.
Stayed in room 3, 2 couples. Very clean, comfy beds. Adjoining rooms which means access to bathroom is from one bedroom. This was fine as we were with family. Smooth transaction would book again. Perfect location and free parking.
