Ednam House sits on the banks of the River Tweed, enveloped by three acres of enchanting gardens. A spacious, stately mansion dating back to 1761 with a home-from-home atmosphere, it’s the ideal spot to recharge mind and body and soak up the best of the Borders. With the convenience of a town centre location, and the tranquillity and atmosphere of a country house residence, Ednam House, like the area it occupies, offers something for everyone.

We had stayed at the Ednam Hotel previously and yet again we were not disappointed. On this occasion it was a family night away. The hotel is a fantastic step back into a less generic era. The staff are so helpful and friendly. The food is of a very good standard. We will be back.

We had a fabulous stay in Kelso in this lovely hotel on the river. We were there to visit Kelso races and it was fairly near by but we would recommend you book a taxi in advance unless you don't mind the 30 minute walk uphill to the race course. We ate in the hotel both nights and the food was excellent, well presented, full of flavour and the service was fantastic and very friendly too. Nothing was too much bother. We had one of the attic rooms which could probably do with some good refurbishing, to be fair, but it was comfortable and clean and the complimentary toiletries were welcome and used. There were lots of lounges in hidden places and so you could be sociable if you wish, or hide away in a corner and do a full Greta Garbo too. The location is perfect as you are right on the river bank and it feels fully country house, but go out of the front door and you are straight onto one of the main streets in Kelso. The staff make this hotel extra special. They were helpful, cheerful and chatty too, making you feel instantly at home. They are the best asset this hotel has. Lots of this sort of hotel need a good update, but not modernisation, just some reupholstering of the furniture would make a huge difference to the look, especially for weddings. We didn't see the larger bedrooms on the floor below ours, but spoke to some people who were in them and they were very happy with their accommodation. We would definitely be back sometime, and would be happy to book into the Ednam House Hotel again without doubt.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were excellent and so were the evening meals that we had. We liked the public rooms and the way the original character of the building has been preserved. Our only criticism would be that our room needed some work, but we did choose the cheapest room on offer.

Our attic room was very shabby. Very old tatty furniture and dirty wet towels still hanging in the shower which was also dirty. The bed was very uncomfortable and felt old. The whole place feels like it needs a refurbishment and a good clean as it could be lovely. It's a perfect setting right next to the river but really needs attention. Also - the menus need to cater more for vegetarians and vegans.

The Ednam seems to have two Tripadvisor sites! Maybe to limit the number of bad reviews on each? We had an appalling experience yesterday when they ruined my daughters wedding with an unbelievably mean and overpriced buffet! £336 for one platter each of sandwiches, sausage rolls, scotch eggs and dried up kebabs ( they forgot the sauce! Not enough of anything for even one each. Surly, rude and defensive staff. Absolute rip off ! They should be ashamed!

We were so looking forward to going to Ednam House as one of our party parents used to go there and in fact there is a picture of him in the reception area. We had 3 attic rooms as there were 5 of us and they were of varying sizes which is to be expected but they gave one of the larger ones to the single occupant. Hard to get to when carrying heavy bags no lift and no help. The rooms although clean were dated and could do with an update. There was a wedding on whilst there which was lovely to see but very noisy in the bar in the evening. We had a meal in the dining room which was nearly empty. Food was good but 4 out of the 5 meals were cold. Sent 2 back but the 2nd attempt was not a lot better. But ate them as hungry by then. Breakfast was good.

Ednam house is a hotel with typical British atmosphere. The service was very friendly, dining in the garden was a pleasure. We absolutely recommend Ednam house for a stay in the borders. Based in Kelso there is a lot of sightseeing possible in the area.
