Travellers' Choice
The Cross Keys provides a warm and friendly welcome to its guests and excellent service from attentive, friendly staff. The hotel is an ideal centre for business or pleasure situated in a peaceful corner of Scotland, yet still within easy reach of Edinburgh and Newcastle. The hotel is in the heart of Kelso’s picturesque French-styled cobbled square. The present hotel was built in 1769, but in other forms, a Cross Keys Hotel has occupied the site since the earliest days of Scottish Coaching Inns. Today, the hotel provides a comfortable and convenient base to explore all that Kelso and the Scottish Borders has to offer. So, whether it's a relaxing break or an action-packed holiday that you are looking for, the Cross Keys can be enjoyed by all.

Arrived at the hotel met by lady at reception, she was really nice, friendly and welcoming. The room was amazing a four poster bed, large flat screen tv,the room was spotless and has lots of room to move around, we were very pleased with this room. The breakfast each morning was great, a really good selection of cold and cooked breakfast. We ate in their restaurant (Saddlers) the food was really tasty, well presented and the service was very good. The staff who served us at breakfast and dinner couldn't do enough for us and really friendly. We will be back to stay at this hotel and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of staying in the kelso area.

The Clan Home recently had a formal dinner at Cross Keys. Everything was arranged by email with Liz. When we arrived everyone was very pleased with the ballroom and the way it was set up. The food and staff were fantastic! They did an excellent job of accommodating some of our group with dietary restrictions. We had a group of 80 people, and everyone had a fabulous time.

Only stayed one night after a day at the races. Rooms were spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable. We had lunch, evening meal and breakfast here which were all delicious! Some people might find the hotel a bit dated, but we prefer something with a bit of character. Tea and coffee provided in rooms for your early morning cuppa. But the best thing about this hotel is the staff. They're always very busy but still have time for a bit of a friendly chat and a bit banter. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

We stayed for 2 nights midweek. This was a very last minute booking as our original booking let us down. So glad they did! Our room was very spacious with an ensuite bathroom. Dinner was incredible! Top class and reasonably priced. Breakfast- fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt, cereal and a choice of cooked dishes. The first day I had freshly made porridge which was lovely, followed by kippers which were huge. On the second day I opted for the smoked salmon and scrambled egg. A truly crazy amount of salmon, about 5 times what you would get served in England lol. The staff were all very professional and friendly. So glad we came here. I would love to give this hotel top marks but unfortunately the saggy mattress lets them down a bit. The bathroom was large but had a small shower unit crammed in there; it would be better if this was opened out a bit. Our room faced the market square, it is an active place so you will hear noise but it didn't trouble us. Walls and floors are thin so we could hear the guests above us, but this wasn't an issue. If we are ever up this way again we will definitely stay again.

We stayed at the Cross Keys hotel for two nights, we ate at the Saddlers restaurant both nights. We could not fault anything. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were pleasant and efficient. The food was beautifully cooked, nicely presented and a good quality. The menu was limited but a specials menu was changed for the second day. I would recommend this restaurant.

We met friends here and stayed over before playing a round of golf nearby. Staff were friendly and our rooms had all we needed. It was nice to have the weather to sit outside in the afternoon. We thought the food in the hotel restaurant was very good, both for dinner and breakfast.

Stayed here for 4 nights during Floors Castle concerts week. Staff fabulous, welcoming and so friendly. The room was better than we could have hoped for and even though we were on waiting list for Buble night they came through and managed to keep us in the same room for all 4 nights of our stay. Only complaint is that due to personal reasons we couldn't stay for tears for fears although hotel said they could have accommodated us. Fabulous staff, great hotel and a wonderful holiday. Hope to be back next year if not sooner.

Myself, my wife and another couple stayed in the Crosskeys for three consecutive nights. Every member of their staff were extremely friendly and were keen of oblige us and numerous other residents. A bewildering variety of foods both hot and cold was available at their self-service breakfast bar, yet they happily provided the likes of goat's cheese and while-you-wait fried eggs if asked. We each had all of our evening meals there. Cooked to perfection. No microwave fast-food meals churned out here. Any items that were included in our main courses were adjusted to our personal preferences without hesitation. The entire hotel was squeaky clean as were our rooms.. Excellent beds and very decent showers. We've all stayed in more expensive hotels that were nowhere near as good. We'll be back

My husband and myself stayed in a double room last night and we were very disappointed. The room was very narrow with only about a foot between the bottom of the bed and the wall to get through to the bathroom. The bed was so hard it was like sleeping on a board, the pillows were hard , needless to say I ended up sleeping on top of the duvet for a little comfort. All night we heard water running as though a cistern in the next room was overflowing, so with the really uncomfortable bed and the noise from running water our sleep was nonexistent. However, the meals we had in the hotel were good, hence the 1 star. Staff were lovely, but could not help with the running water problem as the hotel was full due to the dog show.

My partner and I stayed at The Cross Keys for one night. We were welcomed by warm and friendly staff who were very helpful and a pleasure to speak with. We had an evening meal which was delicious, both of us having steak which was perfectly cooked although the other choices on the menu were all tempting. Service was prompt and the staff were attentive. Our room was spacious and comfortable, very clean and tidy with no issues arising. At night it was very quiet despite the hotel being fully booked and the temperature was just right. In the morning we had a cooked breakfast which was served from a buffet and there was plenty of food available. We were very happy with our stay and would definitely recommend and visit again, thank you!
